Tokyo Drifter. Ranked no. 15 of Ranker.com's top 50 Yakuza movies. I saw this on Turner Classic Movies; violent movie with a killer theme song..

Sonny Chiba in The Bodyguard aka Viva Chiba! The Bodyguard!
This is the movie where QT got the infamous Ezekiel speech that Sam Jackson used in Pulp Fiction..

Im kind of surprised Macross itself hasnt had the live action treatment in Japan yet. I mean they have done other popular shows like Yamato,Kenshin,NaNa,Death Note etc and Macross has carried its popularity quite strongly throughout the years so I wonder if Japan ever thought about Live action at some stage.

There was a live action movie in development called Macross: Final Outpost Earth that was going to be loosely based on DYRL. For reasons unknown the project was shelved..

Brings back memories. I didn't have that card but a buddy of mine's had it. As you can imagine I was extremely jealous of him.. Are those cards worth anything?

So annoying!
Even Mikimoto himself said she wasn't mature as a woman. Always telling people what to do, and it's almost always the wrong thing that will get people killed, then complains about it when she is ignored. Talks and daydreams about her perfect ex-boyfriend all the time. Insisted she could fly a valkyrie, grabbed the controls, then flipped it, screamed, closed her eyes, and crashed it. Then later insisted she should be put in control of a spaceship and got herself and 80,000 people killed or MIA. Oh wait, that was Misa. Sorry I am not sure who could even come close to this.
The real problem is that men are writing these characters and we're not possibly getting a proper characterization of women. Either they're dreamy eyed teenagers or overbearing mommies. I didn't want to make this a Misa versus Minmay issue I just commented that Lynn Minmay was allowed to mature over the course of the Macross story. Not just her transition from teen to pop star but she started to make adult decisions about her role in the ongoing conflict. She and Hikaru even lived together. Mylene & Ranka seemed like to me were examples of the current anime trend of cutsey girl-women that aren't allowed to grow up..

"Amazing"...?
Were you looking at the same comics I was...?
At that time I felt that Mike Leeke of all American Macross artists actually captured the look and style of the Macross Saga. Maybe his art work suffered some because of lousy inking but characters and mecha designs were spot on. I thought Svea Macek's Macross adaption one-shot was a good to.

Whose more annoying Ranka or Mylene? At least Minmay was allowed to grow up..
-
I blame Mike Leek's amazing art work and my immature mind for believing that the SDF-1 & SDF-2 were back to back in Macross City Bay..

Will Mr. Epcar be signing at the panel because I have a YF-21 action figure that could use his signature..

Here's The Super Powers Team episode 2: Ghost Ship/Bizarro Super Powers Team that featured the Gun Sight-1..

I never understood why the Macross Plus movie was never dubbed in english..

Looks good. Reminds me a little of Fist of the North Star..

I agree the Cold War subplot was a little dated but a Superman/Batman grudge match in the same alley where Batman's parents died is tough to beat. Though I wonder why they didn't play that part up is a little confusing to me. If I'm not mistaken Batman told Supes that if he died it was going to be in the place that he lost his parents. It was weird having Reagan, Soviet Union, & nuclear warheads back in popular culture but if you treat it as an alternate history or Earth it wasn't so bad..

They won't because some head at Warner's felt that the Teen Titans would be unrecognizable to their video buying market (eventhough there was a Teen Titans cartoon that ran for four years including a movie that aired on Cartoon Network). But I remain hopeful partially due to the popularity of Young Justice that WB will revisit the Wolfman/Perez version of the Titans..

I just recently part 2 DVD/BluRay combo (I already bought part 1). The best $21.00 I ever invested in a DCU animated movie. A supurb translation. Now if DC would just make that Teen Titans: Judas Contract movie..

When I read this I thought he was referring to Clash of the Bionoids but I'm thinking he's talking about Macross 2. It had no connection to Robotech but I can see the confusion especially because of the Marduk. I always felt they were little "Robotech Masterish" for Macross. US Renditions did make it clear that this was a sequel to Macross Do You Remember Love but in their ads they were trying to attract fans of Robotech or at least people who watched the Macross portion of RT.
FHE had complilation VHSs of Robotech: The Macross Saga that included all 36 episodes in condensed edited form. It even included the Robotech Masters episode that linked the two generations.

I'm not surprised Clone Wars would end up on Disney XD but please Mr. Disney...No unneccessary edits. Even if you have to air it at night to justify the violence..

Nothing to see here...Until Bryan Singer's reboot..

Edris Elba as Gloval. Nuff said....

Positive or negative Robotech always spark conversation and debate... I think they can make a Robotech movie that uses some of the Macross story elements (alien invasions, new technologies) and have brand new Valkyrie type mechs with the three form transformation. Mospeada, Megazone 23, Orguss, & Southern Cross were all inspired by Macross without being straight off rip-offs I believe RT could be the same way.

Holy Budwieser missle Batman!

Interesting, do you think BW might release this on DVD or Blu-Ray? Better yet, do you think there's enough material for a decent home video release?
English dubs: Accuracy vs Adaptation?
in Anime or Science Fiction

I think script writers shouldn't be held to a strict 'this must be word for word exactly the same as the Japanese original". I rather have the best quality product that conveys that particular writer's feelings or talent. Sometimes I run the dub with the translated subs just to see the differences of story telling and method.
