  1. Let's not drag gundam into this. But MS08th team was the far superior product. I really don't like how Delta's 2nd hald feels like IBO's boring meandering in space. I just hope by the time Delta ends, it has a large effect on the macross universe as whole. I don't want Xaos just to take back Ragna, defeat the windemeres and call it a day.

I guess I didn't say that clearly. It feels like Delta has about as much story as 85th MS Team and then spread it over the whole one year war. Though that's not even the best way to say it. Got it Delta is the story of delta squadron the same as SDFM was the story of Vermilion squadron. We've got more time with our little group but they feel like they have less character because the world around them feels so empty. Maybe.. ish. Its a fight over an area with more planets than it feels like they have participants. Feel free to be confused I don't think I'm explaining this to well.
  2. Nah this episode is ok just everything in it and last episode should have been woven together with a little more conceeat information mixed in. Basiicly have the rest and hacking start last episode reveil some of the recap stuff through that. Maybe have a meeting between Burger and the leadership that leaves the end of last ep as Kaname deciding to work with makirrina instaid of ratting them out. This episode could have followed with mostly more of the same and ended as it did. Because the Mikumo in a tank thing would have been a big reveal after two episodes of what the he'll is Mikumo. Instead of you know A THING THEY ALREADY SHOWED US 👿!!!

  3. Obviosly, but I was thinking more the we've stayed with the same small group on both sides thing. It's not the best comparison but it feels like a fight being waged across across more planets than we have active participants and I've never watched a show like that and probably wouldn't be wathing this one if it wasn't Macross. (Maybe I am a sucker for all forms of mechs.)

  4. I can't say the same. M7 was too long and because of it, too repetitive. I also hated the 2 dimensional hero of Basara. The supporting cast I enjoyed far more.

Basara isn't the hero My land and Gamlin are. Basara is a force of nature. 7 is much more enjoyable if you think of it as Mylene and Gamlins syrugle to guid the avatar of Rock & Roll into the path of Chthulu. 7 dragged a bit in parts but didn't have the weird pacing hiccups Delta has.
  5. All righty... sitting down to view this one on the BIG screen.

All told, I still don't like the design of the hospital ship. It looks more like something that belongs to Gundam than Macross.

's it just me, or did the animation quality take a dive here? Hayate's pendant looks like someone stapled a paper airplane to his jumper during his conversation with Freyja in the corridor.

Like the last episode, this one seems to be trying to make up for time lost on fanservice and superfluous characters by unloading a veritable dumpster of expository dialogue all at once. The pacing in the Macross Frontier series felt pretty natural until the last few episodes when all the loose ends had to be tied up in an almost unseemly rush, but Macross Delta feels like it's having near-constant pacing problems. The series spread its action sequences too thin and wastes tons of time on characters and events that have little or no real relevance to the plot, leading to a show that has horribly inconsistent pacing as lurches between the rushed, almost frantically-paced action sequences and those long, dreary Kojima-esque exposition dumps.

So now Freyja can't sing because she's got the blues over her out-of-control song having hurt Hayate? That kind of takes Walkure out of the fight entirely... given that Makina, Reina, and Kaname are basically just decorative. They have nowhere near the power Mikumo and Freyja do, and can't do a damn thing without amplification, so the chances of them out-singing Heinz are effectively nil.

In typical Macross protagonist fashion, Hayate is too oblivious to notice his single-minded obsession with Freyja is hurting the better girl... Mirage.

Honestly the best part of this episode might be the additional characterization and exposition for the Aerial Knights. They've been a mostly flat ensemble so far, so this really helps. Hermann's got a kid in the Knights, which you bet is going to end badly for him. I'm betting we get a repeat of Sergei and his son from Gundam 00, where the son snuffs it and the dad has to bravely carry on. A little bit of flashback characterization for Keith and Roid isn't unwelcome either.

Makina and Reina are hacking into the hospital ship to try and find Mikumo, and drag Kaname along with them... and screw up almost immediately. I have to admit every time something like this happens, I think back to the fan theory that Xaos is a "discount" PMC. SMS in Frontier was very much the epitome of the fictional PMC, being a privately-funded army made up of elite soldiers who were "too cool for school" and quit the military so they wouldn't be held back from being awesome by things like laws and regulations. Xaos seems more like a real-world PMC... a bunch of barely-competent civilians who are playing dressup, obsessed with the idea that they're the hero in their own personal action movie. Reina is supposed to be Xaos's resident super-hacker, and her grand plan to infiltrate the hospital ship and find out what's up with Mikumo isn't thwarted by cunning electronic security measures or platoons of uncannily alert armed guards... they're defeated by an electronic door lock on the front door and one unarmed rent-a-cop.

When you think about it, it seems like every time Walkure and Delta Flight pulled off any kind of operation that ended in success it was revealed (to the audience) that their success was because Windermere let them win to further their own goals. Xaos seems to have mistaken that chump charity on Windermere's part for their own cleverness.

Go Mirage! Rip into those two mopers and get this show back on track! This is why you're the best girl!

My vote is Negative. If I want a dustbin full of rambling, disjointed, nonsensical exposition upended into my face, I'll put on Metal Gear.

To be fair the hospital ships and rent a cop are Chaos to. As always I'm going to hold judgement ti'll I see the subs.... But this I think it is at best going to be the same as every second half episode (barring last week) and be an episode I like on its own but just doesn't work for series paceing.

  6. I think it mutated(?) into a nonlethal strain. Its possible they have some level of collective conscience since they where how the vajra maintained theirs. A galaxy spanning magic bacteria God as it were. Evolution through shared learning. Its important to remember no-one really truly gets this bio fold stuff though count setting probably knows more than the protoculture did as they've come a bit farther without summoning Chthulu.

  7. The bio fold resonance stuff is magic and Dr Chibas and the first Anima spirit is guys atempts to use it as a force of love and good to banish evil spirits are the only attempts to scientificly weaponize it that didn't end in utter disaster.

The galaxy was saved because Basara is to stupid to live and wouldn't give up on the emotional conection being the only important part in the face of all evidence. And that's why we need the wind singer interupted by the Archmage of Rock and Roll.

  8. I've been thinking about Mirage and Mikumo lately, and how Mirage doesn't really know her famous family and Mikumo doesn't have any close relations with anyone. What it Mirage is like a physical avatar for Mikumo for her to try to interact with society normally?

What????? Am I reading something wrong or are you working under the impresion that Mikumo isn't an actual physical person.

There is a near certanty that she is something other than a gander issue human but she is a real person.

  9. So does the Mayan legend of the Birdmen coincide with the AFOS Birdman or is it describing something earlier. I'd have to rewatch that episode to get a better context.

That is one take on it. OR, they are both just like the rest of us...

they were people and all but as a society they wrecked themselves and the most benevolent things that have been passes down are warnings not to be like them.

Also having finally seen the subs Burger shouldn't be taken with a grain of salt he's barely worth trying to sift through the crap.

  10. You know, you all are writing essays about practicality and whatnot, and all I think is

    :p

    I'd add:

    The Kaname/Arad/Messer triangle is interesting.

The history of Windermere-Human meeting is interesting.

Heck, the history of Ragnan-Human meeting is interesting.

Mirage's black sheep story is interesting.

Why is there a sense of Bogue as being impressive and/or an "unsung hero," as you call it? There's been similar sentiments made by others as well, and I haven't paid enough attention to the Aerial Knights to say the same.

Because Bogue gets picked on for being overly emotional and his stock die Walkure shot. So people have pointed out that it's actually a good tactic since if he succeeded in killing the girls Windemer gets auto wins from there in out, and that grew to him being the unsung hero of the aerial knights because people have a dance of humor. Now I must hide be for I'm hunted down for spilling top secrets.
