  1. I gotta agree that billing it as a 171 in fantasy or what-if M7 colors would be more palatable. I guess if I am getting this, I would pretend it to be so and lump it together with the Anniversary schemes in the shelf.

Well said. And so very true.

I think I found the original sketch used to develop this new DX. Not much really changed.image.jpeg.2d2a1904f72a48fdbed98a26e0cba8f2.jpeg

    Thanks for nothing Bandai.

    Haha this is gold!

Yeah, just look at the Yamato 17's in comparison. I think they struck a great balance in the proportions for all three modes.

With the FAST packs, it's even better.

Bandai couldn't even bother remolding more of the parts to be accurate to the VF-17, skinniness aside.

The only thing the Bandai beats it in is availability, which I guess is the most important factor for those who don't have the Yamato.

I'm actually a bit meh on Yamato's 17 Battroid mode, perhaps too slim or scrawny in some areas, but I recognize they have done quite an effort to balance all modes in light of the heavy anime magic going on. At minimum, they acknowledge a key aspect of the 17 being a bulky boy.

That said, I have your 17 pics saved to my phone for longest time, and I love how the angle plus black background of your shots effectively masks the shortcomings of Yamato's sculpt and giving it a full brute appearance. :good:

Quite right, especially when we compare to:

A brand new toy based on a 14 year old release? Oof.

They should have done a missing link 1/65.

Exactly, they should have started from the 1/65 as base reference sculpt and improved from there.

But I guess Bandai is going for minimal effort just swapping a few parts from the 171.

  3. Great that Bandai is expanding on Macross 7. A skinny 17 in Battroid does look weird though, the feeling I get when first seeing this is akin to latest pics of Dwayne Johnson, as compared to say when he was in F&F.

It has a lot of the DX 171 vibes all over.

Good to see some love for the ol' 262.  I've got one of mine set up at work along with a 3Zero VF-1J.  In battroid mode, I hate having the wings all up in the air like it's about to go gliding, but it looks a heck of a lot better down low like sortuva mechanical cape... and the big gun sticking up there seems very Macross imho.IMG_20250922_164210489.jpg.cc483a6f41ba26364688f8678fbba340.jpg

That's an interesting way to position the wings. :good:

The 262 is a nice departure from the standard valk look, both in design and color scheme.

100%. It's a fresh way to interpret how a valk transforms, and the colors are so well integrated into its design.

Just as I'm warming up more to Max's figure, disaster struck. I was exploring putting him on a sitting pose, so was slowly lifting his left leg up and when I got to around the 50-60 degree range, the thigh separated from the crotch. There was no audible sound or any distinct feel of something snapping, it just suddenly felt loose.

One of my biggest reservations on soft good figures, is that it is hard to gauge the range of motion limits since the joints are hidden beneath the fabric. Hence, I was already exercising much more caution than usual when handling Max. I have no idea if the joint itself is broken, or the thigh has a natural separation point via a peg & slot system like some other action figures. It does seem to have pull-down thighs like most other modern figures usually to enable a higher degree of thigh swing.

Although the thigh has separated, I am unable to pull the whole limb out from the pant leg to inspect it, because it appears the pant leg has been glued somewhere along the lower leg. So when I pick up the figure now, the entire left leg is like wet noodle just dangling by the pants.

The outer box has text saying something along the lines of 'refer to instructions before use', but there is zero literature inside (anyone else can confirm this?).

I obtained this from my local toy store, but I contacted KC directly to see what can be done now. Awaiting their response...

Just a quick update - the figure is fine now.

KC did confirm the pants can't be taken off without cutting or removing the stitches, but good news is after investigating the issue, it turns out that it's just the thigh socket having slipped out of the ball, & just needed to be popped back in with very firm pressure.

I do have some concerns with this figure. I haven't pulled the trigger on ordering it yet, though I'm really tempted.

The price is high, which is understandable with current prices and considering the size, but I do need to know that I'll feel like it was money well-spent.

I don't have any experience with Pose+ (or Art Storm) except for the Zillion Tricharger, which I've had two of sitting in their boxes waiting for some free time for about a year.

I finally took those out and they were... fine. They were fine. Not quite durable enough to be a toy, and not quite fancy enough or with enough higher quality materials to justify their price (I think they were in the $300s, if memory serves). Just not encouraging for me on this one.

I do also recall the Art Storm Megazone 23 Garland, which was about this price, shiny, and had some poor reviews once people actually had it in hand.

So, still on the edge deciding on getting this (will I have regrets later if I don't?), but these zoomed in plastic shots aren't selling me.

Ha.. I forgot all about the Pose+ Tricharger. I remember reporting in 2023 the original release being delayed by a whole year, then a year later 2024 on actual release it kinda flew under the radar, and here we are nearly one year later. I was somewhat on the fence on this & was waiting for early reviews on it..

Art Storm branding being on both the Tricharger & the Garland is just them being the distributor, but the manufacturer for both are different parties and don't think they are directly related. One being Pose+ and the other Fewture for the Garland.

I know one of the stated goals Pose+ has mentioned is to simplify some aspects to make it more play friendly, but I wished they had stuck to a more canon interpretation on how the wings fold at the back like Sentinel did. The rear will it look more elegant that way.

  8. Hellfire missiles bouncing off invaders' backs? Send out the Legioss instead... :p

Despite the toy not being very large, it can be made to look quite imposing.

(And just a few minutes ago, I noticed the shoulder sensor is mis-transformed in these latest pics. This will bug me for days to come... until I'm annoyed enough or find more inspiration to take more pics again.. sigh)

Agree with the sentiment and my first release Eta has turned floppy in some areas.

Same experience here with loose joints too. Also, the hip / waist lock keeps wanting to slide back up whenever I move the toy, it is pretty annoying.

I’m not exactly handling it every day.  But after dealing with a Toynami Alpha, this is still a joy to pose out (without too many limitations):

There's the criticism of Sentinel Tread's lower legs, but now I'm reminded their Legioss also has the nearly the same issues. There's no lower leg rotation, and ankle range feels very limited. It's a challenge to find some nice poses without having the feet looking dislocated or at some weird angle..

that’s a bad one to start with for sure. I usually recommend something like a hg kit or the new entry grade kits to those just getting started.

Yup.. Back then I wasn't really familiar with Gunpla - I happened to come across a modeling exhibition by a local distributor, and at that moment felt the urge to obtain a kit of an old transforming Gundam toy I used to have as a kid (found out much later it was a ZZ). The RG Zeta was the only one I found there that came close enough to what I remember of that toy, so I went home with it and if memory serves, built it much later.

Although it didn't handle well after I was done, I do remember being impressed that no glue or paint was needed, unlike my very limited modeling experience when I was like perhaps just 11, being given a model kit of a car, and then could only afford the cement and couple of paint colors after skipping some lunches.
