  1. The 171 kinda, sorta comes close to that if you squint real hard. 😉 I get what you mean, though. A fixed wing version of the VF-1, or maybe a slimmed down VF-24 would fit the bill.
  2. BTW, I currently happen to be in Virginia Beach, sitting on the sand about 10 miles from Norfolk and watching the navy ships and F-18s come and go, so a bit of realism is in my head right now. Speaking of which, one thing Macross dials down considerably is just how LOUD these things are. A gerwalk landing or taking off should send everyone scrambling for shelter! 😁
  3. All fair, mixed messages from me, but I was just trying for something that leaned into the 31's flashy side without melting your eyes. 😉 I get what you mean about the sword shape in the back and emphasizing the dangerous parts of the plane (or, maybe a better way to say it, emphasize that the plane can be dangerous. I'll mess with it and see what I can come up with. Expect a few more racer schemes, though, because they might not be realistic, but they are fun to make. 😉
  4. You're not wrong about the gaudy canards, but I was still going for something like a racer scheme, so some bling made sense. For an actual military livery, I'm 100% with you that everything should get toned down considerably. I like your ideas, and agree that a sharper rake to the gills would be more effective. Wrapping them over the chest plate makes me think about maybe even something like a tiger stripe pattern. Something to try when I get some time. Have you seen the 31 Master File? Some of the squad markings they show there sound a bit like what you're talking about with the sword on the back. The one at the bottom right (below) kinda fits that concept. The sea camo one bottom left also gives a nice flow to the shape. I think your suggestions are good and will play with a few things when I get back in front of a computer. I like playing with the flashy race schemes, but maybe I'll try making it look like an actual fighter with the next go. 😁
  5. Minor update. Wasn't super happy with the heavy stripes, so moved them out to the wings and used the suggestion of making "gills" to add some color and longitudinal emphasis to the body along with some more balancing to the leg colors. It's definitely a very...patriotic...scheme, and I'm still debating whether it needs more stripes or color on the back, but I kind of like it as it is. Suggestions/comments welcome.
  6. These models are the same ones linked to before. See the thread linked here. I just checked and all links are still valid. https://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/topic/51863-macross-models/
  7. Here's something a little easier on the eyes with cleaned up stripes. Going for a WW2 pacific Corsair feel (kinda).
  8. Interesting point. We talked about the "always black" engine/legs before, but I hadn't really thought about the stripes always highlighting the leading edges. I guess that's kind of normal for every plane, but with the 31 and how broad the wing/top area is, it ends up leaving a lot of empty space. As a very quick experiment, I tried throwing some front-to-back stripes on one of the planes and changing the engines to a color match shade. It's not pretty, but it does give a different feel. I may play with some cooler color schemes and see what I can come up with.
  9. Just because it was bugging me, here are some corrected versions of the group with the decals fixed. 😉 Also, forgot to say earlier, that kind of pursuing what we had talked about way upthread, that these schemes really highlight the difference between the VF-31 and other planes. The 31 is a super cool plane, but it really doesn't look like a fighter, whereas something like the 25 or even the 171 does. There's an aggressiveness to the 25 that the 31 doesn't have. The 31 looks more like a racer, so these VFG schemes end up suiting it better than a more "realistic" color set does, which is what made me want to make these in the first place. The color schemes themselves might not be the greatest, but this bright, flashy approach suits the lines of the plane much better than a typical grey or white does (in my opinion).
  10. Not at all, feedback always helps me to get better, so all comments are welcome. I'm just happy someone's looking at them! 😉
  11. Yeah, I noticed the issues with the decals. Part of the process I'm using involves exporting the models to fbx format and that seems to bork the materials. It's easy to fix, but I posted before I saw it in this case. I don't disagree with you on the color saturation, I think it's partly due to taking screenshots from the model space of Blender, because when making the textures, I actually sampled directly from images of the models. I should probably break down and learn how to do proper renders one of these days instead of taking the lazy route. 😉 Appreciate the feedback!
  12. Here is the "official" Kaname in battroid, along with Reina and, just to try something, I color corrected Kaname down into the orange range. I think that starts to suit her better.
  13. I agree with that and was kind of disappointed in Kaname's colors here (though they look pretty good on the battroid mode), yellow is bold but it ends up being plain somehow. I saw another model for her that used the green and black from her signature outfit that looked a bit better, but still ended up not living up to her kick ass persona. But then, Delta kind of excelled at short selling it's best characters (nothing against Freyja, who I do actually like, but Kaname and Mirage should have wiped the floor with all comers).
  14. Wow, hadn't realized how long it's been since I posted anything here, apologies for that. Have still been working on things, but not a lot that's photogenic, unfortunately. Stumbled on the VFG models a bit ago and recently took a break from Unity and animation learning to chuck out some quick versions of these schemes. I only really like the Reina version, but once I had that made, the others were very quick repaints. Anyway, a couple of shots here to keep the thread alive, carry on! 😉
  15. The yellow is an inspired color choice, amazing how different of a feel it gives the plane to the other schemes you showed. Nice work!
  16. And we love you for it. 😉 Considering that Sheryl puts SMS's services on her credit card for an extended battle with the Quarter and full air support, it's probably not quite to the level you're thinking, but you're not wrong that it's got to be expensive. I can imagine that factory satellites and the infinite resources of space make ammo and fuel less costly than today's equivalents, even if the equipment itself is ballooning to small nation GDP levels. It's still an insane level of capability in the hands of privateers, though. Wonder how many go pirate like the SMS or Battle Astrea? I keep picturing Amazon or Google with nukes and deciding that Apple needs to go away. 😉
  17. Funny you should mention that. 😉 When I started working on the Al Shahal map, I made this variant to go along with it, though I quickly dropped it since the local NUNS are probably too poor to afford it. I then switched it to a "Royal Guard" scheme as a private unit for a rich local family.
  18. The amount of power private corporations wield in the Macross universe is frankly terrifying. SMS has a fleet of Macross class warships that it fielded in the final movie that wasn't acting on behest of the government, but just protecting it's own assets (granted, the needs of the government kinda overlapped, but that was largely incidental). Even as cash strapped as Xaos is in Delta, they still have at least three Elysion class ships. That would have been more than enough to take over the Brisninger Cluster by force (at least for a little while) if they so chose. What happens when the Macross equivalent of Amazon or Google decides they don't like the competition in some out of the way outpost? I'm sure the NUNS can mount an adequate response, but they still have to A) know about the incident, and B) be able to mobilize to its location by which time the damage is done. And if a few of these incidents pop up together, I think it wouldn't be long before NUNS is overwhelmed and a shooting war between corporate entities for commercial/territorial dominance is off and running. Whether Macross's creators think favorably or unfavorably about PMC's, the world they've imagined has let that genie out of the bottle and given it steroids, where it ends is scary to think about.
  19. If you insist. 😉 Starts around here and continues across the next few pages. Also made some racer schemes, a Pixie Squad version of the 25, and then wandered off into some Delta alternate liveries. Some cool stuff by others posted there as well.
  20. Thanks, the teal scheme has always appealed to me, Frontier fleet has a good sense of style. I won't spam it here, but I made battroid versions of the scheme and played with a number of other imagined liveries down in the Fan Works section under the "3D Collections" thread, if anyone's interested. My stuff starts around page 4, and some others have posted cool stuff there as well.
  21. I actually agree with that sentiment, and it's what led me to start playing around with what a NUNS version of the VF-25 might look like. I get the idea that a screen full of "hero" valks is visually confusing, but I think the way Delta handled it with differently colored versions for protagonists vs cannon fodder was more than adequate. And, like you say, the original did just fine with everyone in the same plane.
  22. Just adding my thumbs up to the line, really nice looking scheme and well executed. Nice work!
  23. Really amazing work! This looks incredible! I've been messing with something kind of like it over in the 3D Collections thread and trying to build a "livable" version of the Al Shahal environment from Delta, but I won't ever be in this league. Great stuff and I look forward to what you do with it next!
  24. I appreciate that they've thought even this much about it, and if they explore the implications even a little bit, like the inclusion of Johnson's troubles, then that also shows that the writers see it as more than just a handwave, which is nice. That detail puts Klan's repeated use of micloning throughout Frontier into a bit of a different light, especially given her "clumsy genes" issue. I'm sure the deformity issues weren't thought out too much at that stage, but hindsight now makes it look reckless. I guess we can chalk it up to youth and love drivng risky behavior, and maybe also gives a backhanded explanation for her size (being almost as big as commander types in adult form). Maybe that's a side effect of her repeated use and eventually she'll be as tall as Boldoza someday? 😉
  25. I guess micronization is the Macross version of the Star Trek transporter problem. It was dreamed up to solve a plot/setting problem, but the implications of the technology start to break the setting (somewhat) if you think about them too much. And I'm of the breed that does nothing but think about things too much. 😁 Thanks for the confirmations, as extensive as the expanded universe materials are for Macross, it wouldn't have surprised me if there were explanations, but I guess I'm getting into "just go with it" territory. Or, at least, "Schroedingers Setting" territory, where it will only be defined when it becomes plot relevant.
