  1. They stand roughly 5 1/2" from toe to tip of head lasers. The fast packs add a little more. These Bandai kits blow away the Arii VF garbage. These kits are variable to transform into all 3 modes, and come with both super and strike parts, and also the light and heavy missiles. They also produced Super Max and Miriya versions of it as well as a Super VF-1D (I don't remember ever seeing such a thing in the anime). You can get these pretty cheap too. There's a guy in Hong Kong who has them pretty often on Ebay for under $10 with Buy It Now. Maybe $6.99 or so. I think his Ebay ID is rareshop. I picked up a 1/100 Tomahawk from him for $8.99 and it arrived quickly and in excellent condition. I'm in the same boat as you, where I've got a couple 1/72 Zentraedi battlepods, including a Moscato, but ended up stocking up on the 1/100 scale because they were a lot more affordable, and many more variations available. There's 4 versions of the battlepods, the regult pod, and the 1/100 scale Zentraedi soldier, not to mention the resin Zentraedi fighter (Vulture I think). Even though I prefer the 1/72 scale, I still really like these 1/100 kits...
  2. That really looks great! Especially with the valk for size reference. I guess I won't need a display shelf for my valks once I have that Monster... I can just pose them sitting on top of it hitching a ride.
  3. I have been to that page, but was under the impression it was more for small legit businesses, not for individual fans' projects, like the one honnemaise is doing right now. It also appears to need a lot of work (there's more construction going on in there than in a small Iraqi city). I was thinking just something simple, where each project was more of a post than a full web page. That way it is posted immediately, and doesn't need a lot of work from the admins.
  4. This site seems to be the best place for Macross modelers like myself to get advise, meet other Macross model weenies (again, like myself), and admire others' works. But also the best place to get some awesome homebuilt resin kits created by the advanced players on here. Especially since the Big manufacturers haven't produce a new kit of a "bad guy" or Destroid since the 80's (rereleases don't count), this is the best place to get my "fix". I'm sure a lot of you agree. I'm relatively new to the site, although I've been collecting the models since the 80's. In the short time I've been here, I managed to score one of Moscato's 1/72 regults, sign up for the Oberth kit, and also for the 1/72 monster (wipes away drool).... I realize I've already missed the boat on other kits, like the Lancer. What I would like to know is if there's any place on the site that you can find a cataloging of these projects. Maybe just the titles, a couple pics of the finished project, the year it was made, the artist and the selling price.... I think it's a shame that some of these really nice pieces get lost once they are bumped off the top page unless someone really goes digging through the archives. Let's face it, if you want something new (I'm kind of VF'd to death) the sculptors here are your only hope, and from what I've seen their end products blow away the mass produced stuff anyway. If there isn't a place for these, maybe it could be created, and pinned kind of like the straight shooters list.
  5. Wow! Being able to add LED's to that would be totally sick! I've got a couple wall transformers here waiting for a good use, and that would be perfect! I might have to get a glass top coffee table, and put this beast on the bottom of it. Then close off the sides, and I have my display case..... My wife better not think about putting any doilees on the top either! If you are looking for a deposit, I can send you over a couple cases of Coke, to help you burn the midnight oil
  6. Oh boy is it July alreay? Just busting on ya... Any progress to report?
  7. I bought a ton of these 1/200 kits... even though the valks leave quite a bit to be desired, the Regults and some of the destroids look alright to me. My goal was to build up a 1/200 SDF-1 in my basement to set up a battle scene on/around, but not exactly sure about materials for it. I'm figuring the SDF would have to be about 8 meters long...... Let's see, I'm in my early 30's now, so by the time I reach retirement age, I might have one of the carriers ready. Maybe I should make it a life-long goal, and have it open so I could fit inside. It would be the ultimate coffin!!! Who says you can't take your toys with you????
  8. I think it was a Robotech "Battlecry" inspired moment.... theres one mission where you walked through a valley of boulders and could "sneak" up on some battlepods... On the playset front.... I'm afraid this VF is never gonna get a clear shot. He's screwed in place as the wires for the LED's, and the fiber optics run up through his legs, and the same with the regult.
  9. I realize 1/72 is the scale of choice, probably followed by 1/100, but does anyone else have any new 1/200 stuff to share??
  10. It's seeing works like that, that gives novices like myself something to aspire to. It looks absolutely mean!
  11. Some clearer pics, and my "smoldering" tree....
  12. I'm into those 1/200 nichi kits right now. I think they are a good place to build up modeling skills for a beginner like myself. The kits are cheap, and pretty easy to find. Also, if you don't have a dedicated place in your house to setup a bench, they make good use of the kitchen table after the kids are in bed. This is my first and only diorama so far.... I first built it up with the intention of auctioning it off to help pay for some of the other model kits I've picked up (it's a terrible addiction . But once I finished it, I couldn't bring myself to let it go, even if its reeks of novice. It was also my first attempt at toying around with LED's and fiber.
  13. I'm interested in one of those babies too, but I'm afraid I joined the community a little too late. Maybe when you release the "25th" anniversary edition I can jump on board (complete with special edition 25th anniversary stand, so it wouldn't really be the retired original).
  14. I've managed to pick up a bunch of 1/72 stuff over the years. I try to get at least 2 of everything I've discovered for both the Macross and Mospeada series. I'm just real hesitant to begin work on any of them until I get more experience. They are my "Holy Grails" (well, until that resin kit of the monster is ready). Maybe I'll try a Hase 1A. There are quite a fews of those around, and pretty cheap. I've been using the 1/100 and 1/200's as my practice units. I really like the destroids, but can't bring myself to rip into one of the 1/72 ones. If only they would do rerelease of those. Better yet, if Hase would dig into them.
  15. Thanks for all those tips Kanata. Have you ever done the BB gun thing personally? I would think it would shatter the plastic. I'll give the inverted soldering iron trick a spin. I guess these Arii gerwalks will serve well as practice pieces. I'll have to wait until the wife is gone to work on some weekend, or I'll catch an earfull of crap about the smell. Or, maybe I'll link together a bunch of extension cords and practice outside for awhile.
  16. Well, my Arii 1/100 gerwalk showed up..... I can't bring myself to even start it. After looking at the work around this website, and then looking at the sprues I've got in front of me..... this thing looks like a piece 'o crap. I should have pulled some of my old kits out of storage to look at them before buying these. I took hands from one of my banpresto perfect transformation valks, as they looked about the right size. The gundam ones from HLJ are little pricey for me at my level of modeling skill. The thing I can't get over is how poorly proportioned the parts of this kit are. The legs are too thick and stubby, the poor excuse for the 1D's head is a disgrace to sculptors everywhere. No wonder these kits are only $6.95. Stupid me, I bought 3 of them at once. I haven't found many 1D gerwalk options in this scale out there though. Oh, well, I guess I'll either shelve it for now, or maybe have the zen pod getting shredded by a destroid... The exec at Arii who accepted this sculpt should be taken out and shot with cat sh#@!!!
  17. No offense taken. I understand that I'm a newbie here, and haven't worked my way into your community yet. My background.....Robotech models are my passion. I say Robotech, because I'm into the ships and mech from all 3 series, not just Macross (as well as Star Wars). I have multiples of almost every one of the Arii, BanDai, Imai, L&S, and Hasegawa kits ever produced, and am just now discovering the resin world. All I have so far in resin is a couple of 1/100 zen fighter pods, and 2 of the 1/72 Alpha/Beta kits. I've been collecting ever since the show first aired on ABC in the 80's. I'm still working my way up the skill curve, but have begun to get the hang of using an airbrush, and some of the details, like weathering and panel lines. I've also managed to modify some 1/200 scale VF's and a Regult pod with LED's and fiber optics, and just recently modified a 1/20000 zentraedi flagship to simulate it entering a fold by installing a white LED with an aluminum foil reflector and a stained blue lens. I live in Vermont, and it's hard to find anyone around here who's into modeling, and who I could learn from personally. Luckily I found the "How to build models kits" on here, and see it contains a wealth of advise, as well as some amazing, even unbeleivable work. Most of the guys around here are into drinking cheap beer, getting in their hopped up trucks and seeing how many road signs they can yank out of the ground in an evening, or just want to talk about "huntin'". Not that there's anything wrong with it, just not my thing. I am on the East coast, and might be able to save everyone some $$ on shipping, so when the time comes to pick someone, at least consider me. No one would have to pay me a dime for the extra service, as just getting one of those beauties would be payment enough for me. I have a fully stocked shipping area, with boxes, bubblewrap, styrofoam peanuts, and even sheet foam. Maybe by the time they're ready to ship, I'll earn some trust. I'm extremely anal by nature (probably why I became a mechanical engineer) so would treat everyone's treasure like it was my own.
  18. I'm on the east coast, about 100 miles from the Atlantic. As I said, I'm all setup for shipping stuff. I have boxes, bubblewrap, tape and styrofoam peanuts. I do this stuff everyday, and would be more than happy to carefully package up all those treasures and ship them out in trade for one of those beauties!
  19. Wow, finding this site is a gold mine! After seeing those pics, you can count me in for one of those beasts!
  20. Well sign me up for that job! I run an Ebay store (with 100% feedback), and have all the necessary packaging materials, and make daily runs to the Post Office, as well as shipping UPS!
  21. If you can look into Jardann's suggestion about mailing a bulk lot to someone in the U.S. to bring shipping down a little, then you could count me in! I'm teetering on the fence right now with the 18 Euro shipping (unless the US dollar makes some dramatic comeback).
  22. You're right about n-scale being 1/160. I think HO is 1/87 or somewhere around there, and might have some figures that would work. I do have 2 of those 1/100 Robotech factory kits, but am waiting until I develop some skills before tearing into one of those. Thanks for that aluminum foil tip Jardann. I will start toying around with that tonight. I've also got an order pending with HLJ rightnow, so maybe I'll look into those hands and see if they can add them to my order, and save a few yen on shipping.... I thought about buying another kit that had hands I could use on this, but my personality type won't let me ruin a perfectly good model..... I'm a bit of a hoarder, and if something has a potential, I usually end up putting it in a tote in storage when I should just throw it out.
  23. First, I tried searching through the many threads on this site, and after about an hour, decided the best way to get my answers might be to just ask..... so here goes. I've had a desire to build up a small 1/100 scale diorama of the scene in the beginning of the Macross saga where Rick is on ground in his VF-1D, with minmei in the cockpit, and he's in gerwalk mode, when confronted by a zentraedi battlepod, and he unloads the whole 9 yards into it. I've got the battlepod which I need to customize with bullet holes, and I've got an Arii VF-1D in gerwalk mode on order and due in today. I guess I'm looking for advise on 3 things. 1. What is the best way to create the "exit wound" from a bullet, which would show shredded metal protruding outward. I was going to use my soldering iron, or dremel to make the entrance wound. 2. Where is a good place to buy 1/100 scale figures, as I don't think the ARII kits come with them. 3. Is there a good place to buy hands for the 1/100 VF? The ones on the ARII's look like two marshmallows to me. I've no experience, supplies and most importantly room in my tiny house with 2 kids running around to try scratch building, so I'm hoping someone sells hands that are somewhat to scale. Thanks.... Desperate newbie.
  24. I justed picked up a VF-1A and Super VF-1A from "Gundam store and more". They're on sale for $12.99 and 15.99 respectively. Shipping was reasonable and fast.
