  1. though in the case of my local hobby stores, the web exclusives are severely marked up, making import ultimately the better choice

Things do get marked up but considering the shipping fees and import tax, the mark up isn't that bad.

  2. Honestly, I only halfway blame Bandai for all the paint-related problems on these. Let's face it, the valks in frontier weren't really designed with any thought given to how they would ever be produced as toys, let alone why military-machines would be painted in such ludicrously complex and maintenance-heavy schemes.

Still doesn't absolve them of their pants-on-head tendencies to mold things in the least efficient way possible to make them the correct colors, though. "So this part is orange with a white stripe across it right? Great! Let's mold it in white, dip the part in orange paint, and then paint a white stripe across it! Nothing could possibly go wrong on a transforming toy with tons of moving parts!" <_< The little mis-colored panel on the Ozma YF-29 is the epitome of this really.. the plastic was the right color.. then they painted the entire piece black, instead of just the stripe.. then went back and repainted the part they shouldn't have covered up.. in the wrong shade entirely.

Makes me miss the way every other series painted their valks: solid colors with a few stripes and panels.

Cheaper for them I guess. Thats how things go as a company.

  3. That's the beauty of these things though, you can change them as often as you like.

IMO disclaimer, I much prefer messing with the bandai valks to the yamatos. They seem more like toys to me whereas the yams are display pieces and should be treated with more respect. YF-19 being a good example.

I've never been much of a "display piece" kinda guy as I've always bought action figures because they're supposed to be articulate toys to "play" with. Well technically I just fiddle with them changing poses every once in a while. These Valks however are alot more fragile than most of the other stuff I'm used to so I'm a little scared of overworking the joints. The thing is weak by design unlike the Metal build series that feel damn solid. Of course on top of being a transforming toy so it definitely has its limits.

  4. It's so weird how one release will have tons of paint apps, and one release will have none....

Its all about the $$$ it'll make :D

I'll gladly buy all the YF-29 Variants as I love its fighter mode so much! Probably will happen to the VF-25 too when I get my hands on one.

  5. Seeing that makes me want to transform my Isamu back to fighter mode. Problem though is that I love the head sculpt and do want something posed in Battroid mode for now. Its amazing how I used to think that the Isamu head is kind of under whelming but after seeing the real thing I love it the most now. Most guys would probably say Ozma is their fav head sculpt but I'm really loving the Isamu!

  6. Shall try to get the Super Parts for my YF-29 Focker when I pick up my Ozma. I'm really really starting to like fighters alot more now. Preferably those that stick to real jet fighter designs (nothing that trys to be too crazy and futuristic). I WANT MORE YF-29s! Its fighter mode is so damn nice!

EDIT: The fold quartz part on the Super Parts also look so damn cool! Too bad the Super Parts don't do anything for Battroid mode.

  7. the real reason to use EMS is because it's faster. I've never had a packaged lost or damaged through SAL, but I'm super impatient most of the time and want my stuff NOW, so I pay more for fast shipping.

Yeah this really. Usually its just a few bucks extra for EMS but god damn CDJapan charges $50 for a single package. I'm used to $30 tops for EMS for something that size so I went Registered SAL instead.
