1. Hey, I just saw your thread, and I must say, I wished I had ventured into the miniature-modeling threads before.... That is some serious piece of work you have there. I had all of the problems you mentioned... most of the proportions don't make any sense from different angles, and so I have to guesstimate how it should look. I want to build a Do You Remember Love SDF 1 and thought that I would first do the TV one to see how it would look...As you can see I am still learning a lot but I think is coming along... Anyway thanks for droping by, I will be checking your thread and if you have any comments please do tell them! Thanks ! You are really an inspiration! Nothing like being able to TOUCH what you spent so much time in :-( mac
2. Small update, I have been playing with the textures, and continued modeling. Here is a (somewhat crude) version of a textured Daedalus: I still want to add more detail, but will continue modeling for now. Any comments welcome. mac
3. I am interested, I am going to build a DYRL-version SDF anyway... keep us posted with your progress. mac
4. knight and Pen: hmmm I really hadn't noticed that, will start working on it right away! Pen: hmmm probably, just the entrance to the Daedalus, but it depends on how much spare time I have this summer, because I want to detail the hull of all the ships a little more. broadshore: just wanted to make some tests at sea in Maya. I agree, the pattern in the water is a straight-giveaway for CG and it kills somewhat the image. However that in itself will require a lot of work on my part to fix so I will not work on any sea set anymore, just modeling. I will post updates soon.
5. I tried to see if I could get a believable Ocean rendering but I am stuck in how to make the foam and wake believable in maya... I am afraid it doesn't look very good: On a positive note, I got access to a new program that renders daylight more realistically. Here is a test with the Daedalus. It is still looks like plastic, but I think it looks better. What do you guys think? mac
6. Hi fello MWer's, I was actually posting my work in progress some months ago in this forum, but seems that the thread disappeared... Anyhow, I did some more work on the SDf-1 and I would like to post my progress in here. Please critic away! The SDF itself: The bridge: The Prometheus: And the Daedalus:
7. It really is VERY nice... The cartoon to CG is a hard to master techinque. My hat off to you, mac
8. Okay. I got two crits I want to point out for you. and I know someone is going to say. "YOUR NIPICKING!" Here it goes. The model is great! Love the Toon shading you done to the TV Series SDF-01. Now, the shoulder cannons during transformation seem to hit the two carriers. It could be timing or something got screwed up somewhere. Same with the Bridge area. If you look at it. It seems that head itself is going inside the left side of the main gun. Looks like the timing is off or something. great model thought! Which 3d App did you use? 324338 hmmmmm it was about time *somebody* pointed that out. You are entirely correct. I appreciate the critical eye! I am working on the dimensions of the model. As probably dat, rod and aztek can tell you, if you follow the designs from the TV series or the movie to the letter, you'll find out that they aren't 3-d coherent. That is... things like you just observed start happening. I think that is specially evident in the valkyrie. So.. what dat did is follow a toy blue print, but I want my model not to look toy-ish... hence I am experimenting... I am modelling in 3ds max, as for the toon shader... it is done in Maya. the transformation you saw there it is with a very simple model. I have a rather complex sdf 1 model, but I wanted to see how it looked in a toon shader... so I gave it a try. I'll post more pics/movies and see which one looks best... or rather.. not as awful! Thanks for the crit! mac
9. Thought I should post my progress.. er.. or lack thereof... Nice valk dat mac.
10. Well, I've tried this on 3 different computers now and I can't get this to play on any of them. Are you using a standard codec? Carl 322900 You need the latest version of quicktime... If you have windows, you can get it from here... quicktime 7 or if you have a mac: quicktime for mac hope it helps, mac
11. Thanks guys, I have been very busy with work but every spare second I have I try to work on my models Anyhow.. enough ranting... I am working on the details of my SDF-1 and its textures. TExtures are really very tricky. Maybe I wil be able to post soon. Dok, even though your model is simple, it is a really nice composition... nice work too Rod. mac
12. Ok, guys, have been experimenting with NEW trends... like the conventional SDF 1 model and other types of shaders. I can finally post a movie!!! here is the link: Transformation movie Comments and crits wellcome! mac
13. Thought I would revive this thread... N E way... I FINALLY got a copy of the gold book so.. I am reworking my SDF-DYRL model... in the meantime I decided to give the TV version a shot: Please critic away, Do you see anything out of place? mac
14. Hey guys, I thought I would post some more updates on my model... just so that you know that I *DID* pay attention to Lestat's comments and everybody else that was kind enough to critic... Anyway, here are the updates, enjoy and critic away!!! mac... s l o w l y getting there!!!
15. hmmm also, the ARMD is of course part of this ship... I hope I am doing it enough credit... it is by no means finished, but I do hope that sometime the model is attractive enough to make a poster or something out of it. Please critic and comment! The Tomahawk model is looking very accurate and nice! mac.
16. Hey thanks everyone, your comments have been very helpful. I just wanted to get a model done and then start modifying it ... I agree it looked a little bit squarish... so I started rounding it... here is my progress so far... notice in the upper right corner how the engines are being rounded.. again... comments are wellcome. mac. DAT: great models by the way!
17. hmm I really like the projects of all the people that have posted so far. It is time that I post some work in progress, so here it goes... I have been working on the ARMD 01 (DYRL version for some time now... it still is incomplete...) but I would like to know what you guys have to say.. Any way please feel free to critic away... mac
