VOTOMS is awesome as hell.
-
Forever Gundam was clearly superior anyway.
-
I just finished it and I am quite divided by this series because it is a magic girl series, but it isn't horrendous (quite rare!). It also was nowhere near as pedobait-ish as I heard in the rumors. I can easily sum up the series with likes and dislikes:
Likes:
-Amazing scenery
-Amazing monsters of the week (10 in total)
-Comedy was not bad
-Nice art style
-Good pacingDislikes:
-The editing, the pointless fan service shots are the majority of the problem, but (pun not intended) the frames and editing were just handled poorly in general
-Fan service, while they do decrease it significantly in the second half it still is annoying
-Poorly treating their monsters of the week (in this case the Alone); YOU DO NOT MAKE A MONSTER BASED ON A BACTERIOPHAGE VIRUS AND MAKE IT DO NOTHING! And poor Box Type and Lantern Type, even mimetic beasts from Godannar, Matariel from Evangelion, and Lagharto from RahXephon got better treatment than that.
-Akane and Himawari were annoying; everyone else save from Kenjiro, Rei, and to a smaller extent Wakaba were just forgettable. And I have a nice special rant for the final boss being so smug.
"Ooh look at me! I act like a Nyarlathotep knockoff with a crow theme and I am beyond time and space and all that fancy jazz! You humans might actually pass my test but I am going to cheat and not let you at all! I am this universe's overlord because I am big and my lasers took out some jets, but their missiles actually damage me, but that's okay 'cause I have regeneration powers! Look at me Imma destroy your universe with my white eye!"
F**k no, ruler of the universe you are not. You are so "powerful" that missiles, not even of the nuclear or MOAB variety, DAMAGED YOU. By technical standards you are less durable than most of the cast of the Godzilla franchise. Hell, the strong half of them took on beams and attacks comparable if not bigger to your pathetic excuses for death rays (hell, some of them have done more damage than Vivid Yellow's death beam). You'd be lucky if you survived 5 minutes against someone like Destoroyah or Space Godzilla. Hell, even the first two incarnations of Mechagodzilla would wipe the floor with you like a mop! "But my universe destroying powers!" So powerful that nobody died and it went so slow that the Big Crunch would happen before you'd reach the next coma cluster!
I think the staff was waaaaaaaay too over confident with their alones.
This is probably the only time I will ever get to use this picture.
I also do not see the supposed mech references outside of the Kamina glasses (and orange is a terrible color choice unless you want to burn your coronas out). -
I just got back from seeing it. Loved it, one of the best movies I've ever seen, even better than the first. Stop fooling around and go watch it if you have any enjoyment from gun fights or military based movies.
On a semi-related note, I find it amazing that there has not been a single movie this year I have not given a perfect 10/10, 2013 must be one epic year for movies. -
Those were some epic talking scenes that lasted 40 minutes straight.
-
Where did I say I hated SD Gundam? Come to think of it, I never said I hated any of those.
-
I thought it was decent and in my defense I didn't enter it negatively, I waited until I was far in first.
-
I commented on how negative you were entering it.
-
I just finished Casshern Sins and before I go into epic rant mode I'll list parts I liked: Casshern and Friender being (somewhat) in character, Braikking Boss and his final battle with Casshern, the action was good at times, the first ending theme was decent, and the art style was good.
EVERYTHING ELSE HORRENDOUSLY SUCKED BAT TESTICLES THROUGH A STRAW. The "drama" was beyond melodramatic and dreadful due to the endless repetition, the theme of death was overused, the rest of the music was bad, characters did not know when to stay dead, the villains were abnormally stale (friggin' Nanoha did better in the villain department than anything Dio and Leda even tried! COMBINED!), the writing was subpar, the women went psychotic at times for no reason, Ringo being annoying as hell (top 6 worst anime characters? Oh yeah, THAT BAD), and that lack of explaining why Friender never rusted up like everyone else. Keep in mind I am not even touching on how badly Sins acts as an utter adaption rape from the old TV series from the 70s. Why the hell didn't Tatsunoko stop with Robot Hunter? This is also more of a pet peeve, but the dubbing kept mispronouncing Casshern's name (IT IS PRONOUNCED HARN, NOT URN! YOU MAKE IT SOUND LIKE HE IS AN URN FILLED WITH CASH!)!
Art style only gets you so far, I am going as far as saying this makes my top 5 least favorite anime, beating out the likes of f**king Ultimate Girls; do you have ANY idea how difficult it is for an anime that is not a magic girl series to be worse than TRAIN DICKS AND KAIJU TESTICLES!? It is borderline impossible to do it by accident!
This genuinely enrages me! As someone that enjoyed the original series I expected something GOOD out of this! I guess that was far too much to ask for.
-
Wait a minute, are you bashing the Giant Robo OVA, or the Giant Robo TV series they did after?
OVA, but unlike Kikaider and Casshern Sins they are much shorter in length and it has a good final fight so I can give it some slack.
That monorail also gives me the creeps. *shrivels*
-
These robots do not seem appealing. Maybe the aliens will look better provided they have names for them.
-
Way to start off negative, Banshee. Not like I care that much as I won't be watching anyway.
-
Just got up to 18 in Casshern Sins. On the plus side Braikking Boss is back and just as evil as ever. On the other hand:
-It is still boring overall
-Very little plot progression happens
-Leda turns psychotic in episode 17 for no reason
-Ringo officially makes my top 10 least favorite anime characters of all time
-Lyuze in ep 18.... Having sex with a human for no reason and then killing him.... WHAT!?
-Dune coming back in one ep for no real reason other than to die off for real and a couple flashbacks
Just six more episodes and I'll be done and no I don't care what the ending will have in stored. I would not be surprised if this originated as a bunch of rejected ideas for short films by 4C Studio, Tatsunoko bought the license to the ideas, slapped Casshern's name on it to make people forget about the live action movie, and made an anime out of it. I swear this series feels more like anime short films more than it does a remake of a classic sci-fi TV series. First Giant Robo, then Kikaider, and now Casshern? How the hell did Go Nagai's stuff survive decay like this- Oh wait he's Go Nagai, no one in the anime industry save maybe Shoji Kawamori compares to the guy.
-
You will enjoy Aquarion, fellow Godzilla fan.
-
Time for fun, yes?
At least you can have fun. To answer your question they don't even acknowledge their existence.
-
I recently got halfway through Casshern Sins. Still boring as hell and still depressingly mopy while pretty. At least the fighting is (slowly) improving and the ending theme has grown on me a tad. Strange how episode 8 is so similar to episode 8 in the original series, a homage perhaps? If it is, that would indicate that someone in charge did see the old series and if so why the hell is he making this remake such decay? Tekkaman Blade never had this issue (then again it had it's own issues as it was). At least I am halfway done. I also watched Patlabor Minimum: Minipato to get it out of the way, I couldn't not find it in english so I had to see it subbed in russian while using the MAHQ reviews as a guide.
.... That place I once could go to and look upon. The yearn to return captivates me daily if not hourly as misery has the strength to conceal my heart. Once a place I could go to filled with delight and intellect is now but a conviction as to why I can never be happy, much like other places before it. As I wait, cold and alone, isolated and alienated from peers and friends of mine, you await the sweet release. Even if I save the world from the worst of mankind's nightmares I still would never be forgiven of a crime I never committed nor wanted to. Those days where you imagine a spinning piece of lead shredding your gums, skull, and cerebral tissue or respiration into a caustic air of the icide made for insects; the latter would be fitting as I was dubbed a quote nuisance unquote. Happy, I will miss this emotion dearly.
Anyway, Minipato continues the tradition of Patlabor executing horribly what most other anime have little effort doing correctly and with less effort. It was like a cheap version of Gunbuster's Science Lessons except with bad comedy. I also was displeased where the second episode said "all robot shows before us were just toy commercials that animators hated and Patlabor was made to write a new chapter!" Wow, way to insultingly oversimplify a genre AND think that being more realistic makes you the greatest franchise ever. Hilarious how this franchise virtually died out by the time the second ova series came out with a barely revived third movie and this. While there is a level of truth, that just came across as completely smug.
And yes Keith I will look into Ergo Proxy in the near future.

I never stated anything like that.

This morning I started watching Casshern Sins and just got done with episode 6. Wow, this has to be one of the most boring anime I have seen in a while. I can understand they were trying to be different from the original series, but even the live action movie was more faithful than this (and that did not even have Friender). They reduced Casshern from one pretty awesome fighting android hero with the feeling of isolation into "I have no memory and I act so emo because I am hounded but I cannot die and I feel pain all the time". The scary part is that he's the best character, everyone else is just "we're dying we're dying and we will all die" with some thinking "if we kill Casshern we might be immortal!" which might have to do with his regenerative properties.... That are not explained yet. They also made Friender pretty vicious and without the Hellhound (his flamethrower); I can understand why they cut out vehicle transforming, but this.... I don't know. The lack of Braikking Boss also makes for rather lackluster use of villains, they just make all his opponents anti-heroes. What's with the moral ambiguity? It is not really a bad thing, but here it is REALLY over done, kind of like The Grapes of Wrath. Also the music is bland as hell.
Sadly I can't hate on this, the art style is too pretty and the action scenes are.... Decent. What do people see in this? What I can say is this much:
Please get better, please. Please. PLEEEEEEEEEEASE!

Morbid depression is morbid like a Florida tribune. Episode 8 has landed at New York harbor.
The episode starts off with Zero having a bad memory of his fetish slave girl err I mean the Lacross princess being turned to stone as he is sucked into a dimensional portal. Shortly after, Shoot goes to a giant bakery that uses GMs for slave labor as they construct a giant cake for Mayor Margarette.
And all it cost was manipulating the stock market and real estate market.
The bakery is run by a giant computer named Annie.
In strangest eons even death may die.... And Ms. Pacman mutates horribly via the yithians.
Meanwhile CG tries to calm Baku down about him wanting to go home and sees the professor is not helping out.
Laaaaaaaaaazy.
Shortly after Baku throws a fit, D2 sneaks in with his Gallop to go gundam hunting only for two zakus to have cleaned it out. D2 asks where his weapons are before throwing them right near the factory. After we find the bimbo Sayla being the one in charge of cake duty, the zakus mistaken the dessert for a weapon and try to run off before Annie spots them and tries to use them as slave labor.
Ironically this review was done shortly after the premier of an episode of the US version of Hell's Kitchen.
The zakus try to escape only for one of them growing enough of a brain to convert Annie to their side using a control horn.... That one of them seemingly had.
Still more met expectations than the bacteriophage alone from Vividred Operation.
Before I continue the review I am going to say that GOSH DARN IT VIVIDRED I EXPECTED YOU TO CARE A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR MONSTERS OF THE WEEK! YOU HAD A BACTERIOPHAGE VIRUS FOR F**K SAKE AND IT ONLY GOT ONE MINUTE OF SCREEN TIME!? FOR POINTLESS FANSERVICE GARBAGE!? I ACTUALLY WROTE A PAPER ON THOSE THINGS IN SIXTH GRADE BECAUSE HOLY F**K WERE THEY SCARY AS F**K! OFEUIH3PO4UHR9PYFFH9OHYH34O;H!!!!!!!!!!
Ahem.
Just as Annie makes a mess good old pedo knight shows up.
Seriously, how is he not acting like a metrosexual at this point?
Speaking of fruity, pedo knight drops his sword after being ambushed by D2 with a bunch of strawberries. This allows him to take Zero's sword for himself.
Destroyer Dom is now a master of the flipping universe, eat that Galactus!
D2 thinks that the giant birthday decorations are weapons and uses them to his advantage with the two zakus aiding.
In all fairness the cake has enough sugar to convert an entire town into diabetics.
The zakus unleash the bigros and Shoot goes to save Sayla as Zero holds off the villains with an eggbeater. I could make a beat off pun but.... No.
CLIMB SLY CLIIIIIIIIMB!
Zero barely holds his own until D2 fires a pair of candle missiles at Sayla, which pedo knight stops because nobody is violating her before him/reminds him of how he could not save his slave/princesses. He succeeds but still gets his rectum handed to him while the human tries to contact CG and Baku.
This is why you choose Vorizon.
Eventually they do arrive, the gundams use their special attacks once Zero gets his Buster Sword back, and the control horn is damaged with Annie very ticked.
I can so relate to this when I was in public school.
The villains are thrown out (literally) while the bimbo reveals the mayor's cake.
So that is where our money to China went.
The mayor likes her surprise, Zero delivers the cake, and Baku and Shoot become angry for reasons more pathetic than my incredibly depressing poetry as to why I miss MAHQ. The zakozako hour mentions Tallgeese and Destroyer Dom's Gallop before D2 beats two of them off stage.
So is anyone actually tuning into these reviews or am I just mumbling in the dark?
-
I liked 0083 too! Also who cares if the compilation movie will feature Legilis Refined? Age-FX is the only gundam out there that is actually any bad.
-
Gainax should make some figures of the Space Terrible Monster Crowd, both Gunbuster and Diebuster versions, they'd at least make good models. Hell, I'd be interested if they made plushies of the bug types.
-
I never did get around to posting how I rank the franchise here. With that said.... (yes these are greater than signs)
Seed Destiny/Final Plus and Super Nova > Seed Destiny Special Edition > Victory > Seed/After Phase Between The Stars > X > 00 Season 2/A Wakening of The Trail Blazer > Seed Special Edition > 0083 Afterglow of Zeon > Wing > 0083 Stardust Memory/Cima Special > SD Gaiden > G > 00 Season 1 > Wing Endless Waltz/Movie > Zeta: A New Translation > 0079 Movies > Zeta > Original Series > 08th MS Team/Battle in Three Dimensions > F91 > ZZ/Frag. > MS IGLOO 2: The Gravity Front > SD Romance of The Three Kingdoms/Super Deneiben > Evolve > Turn A > MS IGLOO: The Hidden One Year War/Apocalypse 0079 > Char's Counterattack > Gunpla Builders G > SD Counterattack > Stargazer > Age > 0080: War in The Pocket > SD Mark 2 > SD Mark 1 > SD Mark 5 > SD Mark 3 > 08th MS Team: Miller's Report > SD Mark 4 > 30th Gundam Perfect Mission > Mission to Rise > Ring of Gundam > Seed Astray > All That Gundam
So yeah, I'm a pretty casual fan from what little I've seen.
-
Not sure if arrows list, or greater than symbols.
Greater than symbols.
Either way, more power to ya.
Thanks, although any time I posted a list like at MAHQ people would think I'm forcing opinions down their throats/reminding them how "bad" my taste is and Chris or ShadowCell would think I was disrupting on purpose. Funny times.......
Duel, only you would think that Zero and a plotless music video are better than EVERYTHING else in the franchise.
Yeah and part of the reason I posted my ranking list of the franchise was so that Gakken85 would not feel so weird.

I completely forgot to post the last episode here! So here is a double feature with episodes 9 and 10! This segment of the kicked puppy's reviews is brought to you by the story police!
"What? Story police? Are you 12?" -Strike Zero
Based on a real argumentative point in a Gundam Age topic. Pleasant times....
Episode 9:
So the ep starts out with Baku ticked off at the lazy professor not helping out with trying to get him back home. During this time we see a father and son pair of bots constructing a tunnel.
Boss man's got us working.
However the three Dark Axis commanders send a demolition team of zakus to hijack the father using a control horn.
At least battle droids have common sense.
They quickly use a control horn that I just noticed looks like a Z'Gok.
Probably due to how over rated they are.
The zakus use their pawn to burrow through the area and eventually through Baku and the professor.
Walk for your life!
Construction bot junior (I think his name is Gober but I do not remember) tells them about what happens and even mentions that his dad is being used as a bomb to blow up Neotopia from the ground up. The professor acts like a coward and wants out with Baku trying to convince him otherwise.
That would explain why you have so much fatigue.
So naturally the three of them go after zakus like bosses.
Shoot survived worse, you'll be fine with pot armor on.
The zakus are not pleased and start tossing their seemingly gigantic supply of bombs at them.
Bombs away!
Baku and the professor get onto the construction bot only for the zakus to realize everything is better with spinning.
CHODENJI SPIN!
Things seem bad until the other members of the gundam force get off their rectums and do something.
Anyone can find first gear in their giant robot car, can you find second gear? Dun dun duuuuuuuuun!
Naturally the team fails and Baku tries to fight them with his swords.
Like trying to debate with an Armor Mothra fanboy.
The construction bot spams it's arm powers and Baku horrifically loses.
MUGEN PUNCH!
That is until the professor finds the bravery to remove the main bomb and toss it out.
PANTS TOO LOW. PANTS TOO LOW.
The zakus are thrown out with their bomb and everyone has a happy ending. The zakozako hour talks about the weapons of their commander until they act like alpha males showing off.
Episode 10:
Shoot is having a miserable time because he has to write an essay for his school because even in the future people still think essays have any meaning.
I can so relate to this, it is kind of like having herpes.
The human decides, right in front of his mother, a teacher, that he should ask Captain Gundam to help with the topic of friendship. After Shoot has a hard time describing what friendship is and after an automated laugh both Baku and Zero try to use overtly complex metaphors.
Yes that is a grill, why he is carrying it your guess is as good as mine.
Meanwhile, the Dark Axis's mysterious general tells Z2, G2, and D2 that they need to get along or else.
5 bucks says Z2 says uncle first.
For preparation of the next attack they use their minions in cosplay to fight them.
This is why cosplay should be limited to Halloween and costume parties.
After trashing the poor zakus they head toward the zakurello gate on the kousai in a manly fashion.
I like whomping and chewing bubblegum, sadly I cannot chew bubblegum so guess what is coming!
Upon crashing into a construction site the three of them cause wanton destruction and the gundams dispatch.
They actually explain this coming up.
Upon arrival the Dark Axis, for whatever stupid reason, is actually surprised that more than one of them showed up. D2 takes on CG, Z2 takes on Zero, and G2 takes on Baku.
That top sentence is my actual thoughts to Zero's flower theme, the bottom is just the running joke.
Apparently D2 cannot hit anything even when he is RIGHT IN THEIR FACE, Z2 cannot get passed pedo knight's barrier, and G2's lack of common sense, even when he has a detonator for explosives on the Kousai, causes him to crash and literally burn. The three villains try to combine their power.
Not sure if awesome art or really blurry video quality.
Naturally they take too long, the gundams do their version and win, Z2 accidentally presses the detonator, they blow up, and Shoot still has nothing for his essay.
Coming up is a three parter!
