It'd be easy for a company to make a 1/100 toy that both looks great and features perfect transformation... but it would fall apart like paper in your hands or cost far more than a 1/60 scale toy that is PT. You ask too much. Landing gears are also not an essential part of transformation so they don't really have anything to do with "perfect transformation"; they're a bonus frill. It's also a little silly to boil down the difference between the old Takatoku's and Bandai's Hi-Metal to looks vs. landing gears. The Bandai is worlds more sophisticated in its design than the Takatoku. One of the biggest hurdles Bandai would have faced with built-in landing gears would be the clearance necessary for the gun to be stowed in fighter mode (something the Takatoku couldn't do at all). The gears would have to be relatively large, the doors concealing them absolutely miniscule, and everyone would have broken something pulling them out.
I dunno, they handled the doors for the hands pretty well. Speaking of the hands, the big optional fists almost fit in the bays, so I think they default hands could have been a bit bigger. Imagine if the default hands were a bit bigger, and if the gunpod had a retractible handle, and if the heatshield was a snap-on that wasn't required for transformation. Just those minor, easy changes would have made this toy feel 100% more fun, even without integral landing gear.

Why does he have to ruin the pictures with watermarks?
Because he's a douche. Anyone who scans someone else's work and then applies a watermark is a d-bag.

Seen in an another topic but there are some smooths Mospeada ( macross, southern cross and more )pics, illustrations and goods, so i prefer put again this link here:
I would kill for that big sketch in the first picture. Aramaki is a god.

I know I might as well ask for a unicorn, but I really want truly perfect-transformation in future releases, and maybe even a special remake for the VF-1 and -19 with PT. All these extra parts for landing gear and head lasers and gun pod handles. It's 2010, why do we have to decide between PT and looks? The old 1/100 VF-1 wasn't as pretty, but it was PT. The new one is better looking but not PT. That's not progress, that's a trade-off.
I can handle a clip-on heat shield, but beyond that, if the next release has clip-on landing gear and gun pod handles and all that, I'll stick with Yamato.

I love this show! Surprised to see this thread since I just bought the first season last weekend and have been watching it with my wife since. It's just funny, smart satire.

leotards for leopards!
I think anime fits the Thundercats more. The beginning sequence of the 80s cartoon was obviously done by Japanese animators and was pretty badass.
Yes it was. It was animated by Topcraft, the members of which went on to form Ghibli.
The old opening with the kick-ass animation and song was awesome. The rest of the show wasn't so great.

But does it have knee joints? If it can't kneel I won't buy it.
This was a joke, by the way. I guess I was too subtle. Remember the guy that complained about the SDF-1 not having knee joints?

When I say things are dated on the podcast I typically mean "contain sideburns and bellbottoms and character design styles no longer popular".
Yeah, character designs can be dated, even though I hate to admit it. I still think 80's designs are objectively better, dated or not. I just don't think a word with a negative connotation should be used unless the designs are actually ugly.

I know exactly what Lott Sheen is talking about. I see this all the time in anime fandom. My pet peeve is reading a review of some old-school anime that says "the animation is dated." They say this about the most incredibly-animated shows, like Macross:DYRL or Akira. Yeah, dated like a fine wine is dated. I'm sorry, but the most well-animated anime came out in the 80's and early 90's, period. There was really bad animation back then as well, don't get me wrong. But the good stuff was mind-blowingly amazing.

Assuming it's like the SDF-1 with full articulation.
But does it have knee joints? If it can't kneel I won't buy it.

Maybe it's just me, but I find the Regult sculpt to be a tad... Underwhelming? The eye is too small relative to the pod, and they adopted some wonky curvatures in some places. Just my two quatloos...
That was my first thought upon seeing the pic. It's kinda ugly. Something is not right.

Lunar: Eternal Blue(SegaCD, yo!)
Wanna be my new best friend? God damn I loved the Lunar games. A defining feature of my childhood, along with Macross.

your whole post makes you look like an idiot.
First off, the Q-Rau re-release was after the new VF-1s and the Destroids came out.
Second, just because the Destroids don't transform doesn't mean they're cheaper to produce.
VF5SS, you are consistently rude. And by the way, non-transforming toys are ABSOLUTELY cheaper to produce.

So...this thing is going to be ridiculously huge, then?

Eh, I wish the landing gear were integrated and retractable to begin with, I wouldn't care if they looked simplistic.
That's exactly how I feel. This is friggin' 2010 -- why do we have to choose between accuracy and completeness? They have the damn technology to make this thing perfect, and no, don't tell me that landing gear would make this thing way more expensive or difficult. It's a damned transformer -- it's already complicated. Landing gear won't make it significantly more so.

Why am I more excited about this than any other Macross toy?

I still want one! How do we do this?

I love Project A-ko! It does have everything. The only part I don't like is the Versus/Civil Wars, but I really like the 3 OVA sequels (called Love & Robots in the US). I wish we could get a remaster of those OVAs because the video on the DVD looks like its master barely survived an office fire.

No, not really, you can`t spend your time in Japan lecturing to and explaining to everybody on why they`re wrong everytime someone offends you (which happened almost every day to me), you`re never going to convert half the country, it`s better to just have a one liner or a quick comeback to confuse them, make them think twice about bugging another gaijin and just make them leave you alone. In the case of the chuugokujin da! comments if I was lucky an adult may understand the irony of me being called a `gaijin` where I could well be naturalised Japanese for all they know and then me Chinese because they look asian and the wrongness of generalising.
I think you comebacks are hilarious, personally. Some people think you should walk on eggshells to not offend the Japanese while forgiving them whenever they are rude or selfish. Screw that.

I can't wait to see how many parts must be swapped on this stupid thing.

I want one too.

I don't think the rape scene was a mistake so much as the whole movie was a mistake. It's like they mad-libbed the whole thing.
A charming young man from (RIDICULOUS LOCATION) an alternate Earth with funny hats struggles in his quest to become an (UNLIKELY OCCUPATION) astronaut in a time of (CLICHED BACKDROP) war. Only after he (VERB) rapes a young, (RANDOM ADJECTIVE) bible-thumping girl can his team achieve their goal of bringing about (HISTORIC EVENT) the first manned space-flight.
The world and the characters were totally unrelatable. But the animation was good, yes.

hmm... clenched fist w/ molded gunpod grip.
That kinda ruins some of the magic for me. I want one set of empty hands that fit into the arms and hold the gun, and an intact gun that's all one piece. Even at 1/100 scale that's not too much to ask.

I'm more bothered by how the feet look in fighter mode.
BUSTED!
