  1. Oh, if that's the case then don't mind me.
  2. Except the SS in the pic with Omega Supreme is Japanese Classics Starscream, not G1-colored MP-03.
  3. One of my favorite FPS moments was when one of my friends came over to play Perfect Dark. He was probably better than me, but my brother wanted to play too, and he was just meat. I quickly realized that if I wanted to win, I simply had to kill my brother more than my friend killed either of us. So, my friend ducked into this one room that only had one door... I'm guessing he must have had some plan for doing me in after I went in. But I had a laptop gun... basically an assault rifle that you can set up as a remote turret. A remote turret that I stuck on the wall opposite the door. I set off to kill my brother while he had to figure out how to get out of the room without getting killed. What made the whole situation even better was he ultimately decided to just die, figuring that he could afford to give me the kill, but he happened to respawn in the same room. I was also notoriously creative when it came to finding places to put proximity mines. They'd find a few (decoys), shoot them from a distance, think they were safe, and walk right into the real trap.
  4. Now now. Perfect Dark Zero wasn't crap. I thought PDZ was actually okay, and if it was released under any other name about any other characters, it'd be remembered as a decent shooter that doesn't quite measure up to Call of Duty or Halo. PDZ's big problem, though, was that it also failed to measure up to the original. As yellowlightman pointed out, there are things that the original did well that modern shooters just don't. Better secondary features on weapons, better weapons in general, better indoor maps, etc. Even with all the hype surrounding Halo, my first thought after playing it was, "It's good, but it's no Perfect Dark." Bottom line, and I think I speak for a number of people when I say this, is that if they announced the original Perfect Dark on XBLA tomorrow, I would be out buying MS points today.
  5. It did bring back the teamwork thing, sure, but it was also so awful that I couldn't even finish it.
  6. As David said, Toshiba would have to start selling players at DVD player prices. Then they'd have to get Microsoft to throw money at Universal and lock them into HD-DVD. Finally, Universal would have to stop selling standard DVDs, and release all of their movies from here on out as those dual format HD-DVDs, at the standard DVD price point (seriously, HD-DVDs were only supposed to cost cents more than a regular DVD, so why were we paying $10-$20 more for them?). Then everyone looking for something to play in the DVD players they already own would be buying HD-DVDs. That would have taken the war out of the niche market and put HD-DVD in the mainstream, if only something like that would have happened after Paramount signed on.
  7. I caught it Sunday, but I also caught a nasty stomach flu, and I've been too busy emptying the contents of my stomach into the toilet to post my thoughts. But yeah, I'll pretty much second what everyone else is saying. When I saw the first promo art for the series, I was seriously turned off. But it looks a lot better in action. And while it is definitely a kids show, it's cleverly written with just enough G1 homages to please older fans. I was never a huge fan of the Dinobots, even as a kid I only really liked Grimlock. But I thought this was a great episode, and I'm sure I'll be buying Grimlock's toy when it comes out. It'll be fun to compare it with Classics Grimlock.
  8. I wish people would just do a little research before they start shooting their mouths off. That guy's gonna give humanity at bad name.
  9. Absolutely. Too bad Voyager never got that quality of writing.
  10. Well, I'll give them credit for doing the whole alien thing, and trying to do something that wasn't yet another Medal of Honor clone. But in a market that's flooded with FPS now, I just can't help but feel that Resistance was merely mediocre. Not bad, but not great, either. The multiplayer is definitely big news... if you're into that. Unfortunately, again, I hate playing shooters online. In the living room with some friends, sure, but on the nets with every foul-mouthed pre-teen that talked his parents into buying him an M-rated game, no.
  11. Well, good for people who liked the first one. Sadly, that doesn't include me.
  12. Well, I'd love a Star Wars fighter that played more like Soul Calibur than MoTK, and maybe that'll happen later. But I'm guessing the SC team was busy finishing IV. And in the mean time, they got Vader in my SC. I think it's all in good fun.
  13. Speaking of the versus series, how come I never heard this level of bellyaching over any Cyclops vs. Chun Li matches? Soul Calibur's "story" has always been half-assed at best, and Vader/Yoda are bonus characters. Bonus as is they don't have anything to do with the game, they're not trying to screw with whatever passes for Soul Calibur canon, they're gifting us with the bonus of playing one or two characters as something different. If people are that offended, don't play as Vader or Yoda.
  14. Maybe I'm just not as picky as some of you, but I don't mind playing Vader in SCIV. But then again, I wouldn't mind playing He-Man or Lion-O either. Pretty much anyone with a weapon is OK by me. I'd even play Duncan McLeod. The only two sword-wielding characters that I am against turning up in Soul Calibur are Cloud and Sephiroth. They're overrated enough.
  15. It's not that HD-DVDs have never interested me. I wanted to pick up the Matrix Trilogy, Batman, Shaun of the Dead, etc, but never got around to it, because I didn't buy the 360 HD-DVD attachment until I found a used one cheap at Gamestop after Transformers was released. Meanwhile, I bought a 60GB PS3 right after they announced the 80GB units, figuring that the price drop was more of a clearance on the older models than a genuine price drop. Since then, I picked up the first two Pirates, the Spider-Man Trilogy, the Ultimate Avengers double feature, the rest of the Marvel Comics movies that came out since X3, as well as movies that were on both formats like TMNT, 300, Last Samurai, etc. Actually, there's a pair of stores around where I live that sell used Blu-rays and HD-DVDs for $15 a piece. When I only had a PS3, it always seemed like they didn't have anything but crap for Blu-ray, but I could always find an HD-DVD I wanted. After I bought my 360 add-on, they just never have anything but crap.
  16. Well, when I said chipless, I did it for simplicity, but I was referring to the Emotion Engine, since it's the reason the 60GB PS3's didn't need software emulation. But yeah, the 80GB units still do software emu, and the 40GBs don't even do that. At this point, it certainly saves space to just have one console, but if I hadn't already bought a 60, I'd buy a 40GB. 40GB seems like enough storage, and if it's not, the HDD is easily upgraded later. The memory card slots aren't necessary since you still have the USB ports, and speaking of those, I've yet to use more than two at a time on mine, so I can't say that I personally need four. Save the extra $100, and hang on to my PS2 (which I did anyway).
  17. Well, if the studios were all coming out for HD-DVD when there seemed to be a lot of consumer interest in Blu-ray, I'm sure I'd be suspicious of HD-DVD. But you're absolutely right, if there on was one format, we'd all embrace it and just go back to complaining about DRM in general. Like I said, my HD-DVD collection never really took off anyway. I'm leaning toward selling my HD-DVD stuff anyway and just replacing my discs with inevitable Blu-ray equivalents, rather than stock up on clearance HD-DVDs. And hey, maybe a Blu-ray release of Serenity will have a better transfer and the extras from the collector's edition DVD. It sucks when regular DVDs get better stuff than the HD releases.
  18. In the States? I think all of them. The 20GBs were phased out first, then the 60GBs were replaced by chipless 80's, then they later added the 40's to the line up.
  19. The only mention I've heard of DC was Kotaku saying that the only way for a Yoda vs. Vader fight was IF Namco Bandai/Lucasarts decided to make them DC for the platforms they're not on. That's not something you can take to the bank.
  20. I'm pretty content with the way things are now. I have a lot of cool stuff, and there seems to be a lot of cool stuff coming down the pipe. Besides, who knows what crazy stuff could happen in the next 10 years, let alone the next 50, 100, etc. The only thing I wish I could do now that I can't is visit the moon.
  21. Quattro Vagina... aka Spring Break Memories...
  22. You're not going to have the issues that Alpha OTS has. The older 20GB and 60GB PS3s don't emulate the PS2 hardware, they actually have an Emotion Engine chip.
