  1. In that condition, I would say $150-$200 if you sold it on ebay. To give a better price range, pictures would be needed. It also depends a lot on who is on ebay and sees it.

The market for anything vintage is bad here in the US (but at least it's better than in Japan)

  2. You don't have to pay US taxes ONLY if your annual foreigh earned income is less than US $80,000.

For more info, go to official IRS website:

Actually there was an article in the Wall Street Journal about this today. If you renounce your citizenship and you make over like $140,000 you still have to pay for the next 10 years, and if you don't they can bar you from the country until you do, on their terms (they can also not let you renounce if you are doing this as a tax dodge).

Back on topic, I've seen weird stuff done by foreigners in Japan and Japanese teachers here. These guys once I saw were trying to hit on women but mispronouncing pretty/good looking and wound up insulting them (and it was obvious).

And one of my Japanese professors (a Japanese national), is the only person I've ever met capable of scaring the entire class into showing up on time and knowing every little thing, even in advance of when we're supposed to know it (in contrast to the American professors, who never bothered with anything like vocab or stroke order).

  3. Thanks for the suggestion about Sofmap, that's where my friend got me the slim PS2 from, he told me they had tons of games for cheap. I'll go that route I guess.

    No problem.

All the stores in Akihibara had discounted/clearance games (Dino Crisis 2 for 200 Yen). I was going to pick up a copy of the Macross game but I barely had enough for train fare back and a Trance Vibrator (fortunately I already have a copy of Rez).

  4. OK, I know this seems like the millionth topic on toy stores in Tokyo, but the other topics didn't have much of anything (I did search).

I've been to Tokyo before (this is the 4th time) but this is the first since I got into Macross (and anime in general). As such, I've been to most tourist places before (Akihibara, Shinjuku, Ginza, Shibuya and Ikebukuro), although I'm going with someone who hasn't been so I get to do all that stuff over again.

I always manage to find a random Animate and Toys R Us (along with random hobby shops), but never really in the same area, so this makes comparison shopping difficult. Is there a particular area with a reasonable number of places that sell new Macross goodies? Is there one best place for Macross stuff?

Are there any other places there I should visit? Also, several years ago I saw a brief article in Hemispheres (United's in-flight magazine) about Tokyo, and it had something about the place where a decent number of video game companies are (along with a lot of VG stores). I've never seen any other mention of it - does anyone know about it? My parents have every Hemispheres going back to 2000 (except Sept 2001) and I didn't find it in any of them.

  5. Decided to list some stuff and take advantage of the $.10 listing day. And I need money for going to Japan next month. Don't know why people think I need black dress socks every 3 months when I don't wear them to begin with, but that's another thing.

Should be listing some actual Valks later today.

edit// Whoops - might want to include the actual link to my auctions

  6. I nominate the United States Postal Service.

I have had no problems with them (except for like 10 years ago in Chicago). Recently, a lot of stuff has been sent back as undeliverable. I've gotten most things, but not all of them (all to the same, correct address). Today I get the tracking e-mail that something was undeliverable (it was marked that today). So I call them and I can't even go to the PO and pick it up. The thing that really pisses me off is that I lose out (some places, and people on ebay want money for more shipping) with stuff I order because I get charged for shipping again because some moron at the PO can't do their job.
