I've found a ton of good stuff in Akihabara. I got 3x Takatoku VF-1Js for less than 3000 yen each (all were in box and everything!). And I saw a ton of stuff, although a lot of it seemed pricey. And, for those of you who don't know, addresses in Japan don't really exist and most places don't accept credit cards
I'd also second the idea for a thread for Japan visitors to have a MW do there.
-
I still can't believe I missed this thread for so long. Quite frankly, the Dreamcast was awesome. Sega put out so many original (how often do you hear that referring to games today?) games. Shenmue (1 and 2), Jet Grind/Set Radio, Samba de Amigo (that was the title, wasn't it?) and Space Channel 5 were really good games. Although some games were just bad (Sonic Shuffle anyone?).

Good to see some (more) changes.
Although I'll wait and see what everything looks like when the dust settles before (hopefully before Shawn comes back) saying anything about how everything looks.
-
I thought Azumanga Daioh was ok. ADV has translation issues though (although they aren't as bad as other places - once I was watching Law and Order and they were calling someone Sr. Huevo and I was shocked, until they said it was because his brain was like scrambled eggs).
As for the quizzes, I wound up as Yomi.

Somewhere Windows has an option to "hide video modes this monitor can't display." Find it and kill it. That will likely triple the number of resolutions you have available to choose from.
I assume you mean under the monitor tab, where it says screen refresh rate? Not only is the box not checked, but it's (oh, what's the term...?) not available to be checked.
Under the adaptor tab, where it lists info on the card, there's a "List All Modes" button. My choices are:
640x480, 256 colors, 60Hz
800x600, 256 colors, 60Hz
640x480, High Color (16-bit), 60Hz
800x600, High Color (16-bit), 60Hz
640x480, True Color (32-bit), 60Hz
800x600, True Color (32-bit), 60Hz (currently using this one)
640x480, 16 Colors, Default Refresh
800x600, 16 Colors, Default Refresh
Under the nVidia tab, there is nothing useful. Mostly driver info, plus some options for full screen overlay that are blanked out.
Go to the Control Panel -> Display -> Settings (click on Advanced) -> Monitor and the box should be there.
And if you don't have the latest drivers for your video card, get them.

I remember who you're talking about, I'm pretty sure it was glane(with some numbers). I've seen him around once or twice since then.
I haven't been here for that long (only like 3 and a half years), but I remember some of the older people (primarily when someone would either get banned or run off with a ton of other people's money). I remember when Rosario came back (and Mylene', who came back like 3 times).
And we can't forget about Shawn, who is barely here (but he pays the bills, so that is definitely appreciated as a place like MW costs a lot to run).

As a buyer, I always figure out what shipping will be before I bid (if it doesn't say). I've seen too many cases of excessive shipping and handling charges.
As a seller, sometimes it's hard to figure out how much shipping will be, especially when sending stuff internationally. I just sold something on ebay recently. Buyer was in Canada and I had US shipping at $5.50 for the item (materials + priority mail + delivery confirmation). Was asked what shipping would be and came back with $5.00 (I had the box it was shipped in, and that had a weight on it), so I figured same price. Well it only cost $1.50 to mail.
btw here is ebay's policy on this
-
but the interesting thing is... many overpriced items get relisted , and yet the same price tag ... I wonder why ?
I believe it is because it is very cheap to list an item on Yahoo JP. A commission (I think 3%) is added onto every sale and then every month there is a charge for being a member (I think ~$2).
-
Shill bidding has always been rampant on ebay. Another problem is that a lot of people just look to offload stuff and put a low starting bid, so the bids don't come close to what the seller expects. I just have no problem putting the minimum I want for an item and holding onto it for 6 months to try again.
-
For one it is very overpriced. This has been on Yahoo for like two years now. Every so often you see very overpriced things, and this definitely qualifies.
-
Every so often I use Celga. Pretty good service as long as you don't have any problems or questions. They do overcharge on shipping though - shipping within Japan for any item will be charged as $8.00 (the one time it wasn't $8.00 was when I bought a Gold Book, and then it was $6.00). But they are reliable (and predictable - almost every time I've used them it's taken the same amount of time to get the item).

I know this is really only for buyers to list bad sellers...however I wanted to warn all the sellers out there about this guy.
EBAY NAME - andybomber
This guy uses the Buy It Now on one of my items. No Problem. Then doesn't pay on time ...he says he paypal can't send money to me. All good. Says he is going to send a MO. Still good. I give him extra time. Then out of the blue...Paypal Payment. Great! Mail off the item listed onthe paypal Invoice. Package sits at the Post Office. They tried to deliver it to him 3 times. Then they sent it back to me. He finally E-Mails me. Where is my package? I do a trace and find out the info I said above. BTW he also had a copy of the tracking number....but didn't use it.
I informed him that it was on it's way back to me. I told him i could mail it back but he would have to pay shipping again. Or I could give him a refund. he asked for the refund....no problem. I refund himthe money.
This this idiot leaves me negative feedback because he can't pick up his own packages....
Oh well..anyway Sellers Beware.
Rob
Either way it's good to me (and I'm sure other sellers appreciate it too). Personally I've had way too much crap from buyers on eBay. Like 97% are fine, but it's the other 3% that cause trouble. I've had people bounce $10 checks, report me to paypal a day after they paid, accuse me of theft because I didn't respond to e-mails within 24 hours. I've noticed how it's always people with like a $10 or $20 item that harass me. I sold a book for $150 plus $30 for EMS to France and the thing took six weeks to get there (at the 4 week mark I e-mailed the person and asked if they had gotten it or if I should go and file a claim, he said sure and I never heard anything else).

I don't think I've ever seen a VF-1A box by itself. Any of the boxes are hard to find by themselves. I've only seen two Takatoku boxes, and one was from some guy who had a whole valk and was selling everything seperately. The other was a VF-1S/GBP-1S armored valkyrie set box on Yahoo JP I bought (still looking for a set of loose armor, but it isn't as difficult as the box).
-
bump. Listed more stuff.
-
I was keeping an eye on this and almost bid on it. Definitely wish I had since I need a loose GBP (still not as bad as some of the stuff Arafat got on Yahoo JP)
http://page6.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f34768296
(it ended at 3,600 Yen if you don't have a Yahoo JP account).
-
I doubt someone offered him enough money for it.
I wouldn't have gone for it unless I could pay in person and see the items beforehand. Although that was a very nice collection.
-
Finally got around to listing some stuff (the last of the yamatos and bandais that I have) (sorry to the MW people who were hoping to get a good deal on some of the stuff)
-
Seiichi
Would it be possible for you to quote me a price for a Takatoku GBP armor?
All I need is the armor as I already have the box for it (so I need a set of the armor by itself, no Valkyrie or box).
I was in Japan in January and saw the armor and a VF-1S for 15,000 yen (I realize now I should have bought it even though I don't need the valkyrie).
Thanks
-
I'd go with what others said about Akihibara. LAOX did have (as of January) 1/48 Milias for 13000 yen (didn't bother with them once I saw how friggin huge those boxes are), I think some other places did too. I also saw a VF-11B FP for like 8500 yen (regret not buying it). But I did get some vintage stuff for cheap (which was always good) and I got to stare at those Sharp Aquos tvs (man those look good!). I'd say the FPs are long gone.

A new day, a new Paypal scam...
Apparently there are fake money orders floating around from Nigeria and Eastern Europe (as payment for goods from bidders in those areas). Of course, if the buyers would have just wondered how someone in Nigeria or Eastern Europe would get a US PO Money Order, people wouldn't fall for them.
Going to Japan in 2 weeks!!!

I'll point out that a fair number of places are probably going to have different hours during Golden Week (this year it's April 29 - May 5), but most will still be open.
Also, you might think that since your ATM card worked in random ATMs in Cambodia or Africa that it'll work in Japanese ATMs. Well that's wrong (seriously). Look for 7/11s, Post Offices, Shinseis and Citibanks if you need to get cash. A regular bank ATM won't work.
