HERESY! Thou speakest treason! An iconoclasm most foul, sir! As for RW super scale toys, there's a 1/18 thread in the Sci-fi/Other section, and another review thread on one of BBI's F-18 toys, with lots of nice pics. Very cool toys. Doing a search on 1/18 planes turns up everything from WWII warbirds to Korean Sabres to Vietnam F-104s, etc. etc....

For a VF-1 that big, I'd make room. Even if for only one. Okay, so maybe I was being a bit optimistic with my "MSRP." Maybe $89-$99? But for sake of keeping it there or under [with Yamato? yeah, right! ], I'd say no TF features, save for the legs. So sadly, no GERWALK--but let's say the legs could be put fully down ["Stalking Fighter" mode, is it called?]. C'mon, seriously--a 2 1/2 foot long Valkyrie with Super boosters and leg armor? [sold separately, of course] Which would leave the door wide open for some decent [finally] 4" Hikaru, Roy, Max and Kakizaki figures. Who wouldn't think that was cool? Would make for a kick-ass home-movie prop. C'mon! Before Yamato came along with the 1/48's, people--albeit, not a whole lot--were willing to pay ungodly sums for a resin Ultimate Detail VF-1 model--which didn't transform IIRC, by the way! You mean you wouldn't pay 85 or 90 bucks for a kick-ass detailed plastic version that's even bigger?

Considering the recent surge in popularity with really big scale aircraft toys, like BBI, 21st Century Toys, etc--what if the VF-1 got the super-size treatment? Using specs from Macross Compendium, the toy would come out rougly: Length: just over 31 inches Height: about 8 1/2 inches Width: just over 32 inches, wings extended Keeping it non-transforming should help contain costs, and allow for some serious attention to details. Perhaps if they could bring it in at around $69-$79 retail? Of course, the legs and back fins would need to be convertable, to add optional Super parts [around $14-$19?]. Honestly, I wouldn't mind if it didn't TF, as I very rarely convert my VF-1S Roy on display; maybe 98% of the time it's in fighter mode anyway. I just think a huge-assed VF able to be displayed next to, say a BBI Hornet or warbird would be so fuggin cool. And besides, we all know the old Matchbox ver. was pretty much ass anyway...

One-off Ferrari custom built by Pininfarina, based on Enzo. Well, it looks okay. Not as evokative as the original P4, but still a helluva lot more aesthetically pleasing than the love-it-or-hate-it Enzo. Full story details and a few more pics here: http://www.allcarnews.com/article/ferrari/...se-pininfarina/

Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time
reddsun1 replied to JELEINEN's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
The SciFi Channel just premiered "Stan Lee's Light Speed" last night. Dear Lord, this one's got to be eligible for this roster to be sure. I could only stand about 5 minutes of it before I started feeling like the back of my eyes were beginning to bleed. Certainly another film in the tradition of the B&W 1950's sci-horror crap-taculars of old: terrible acting; apparently non-existent budget; shoe-string plot [if you could discern one at all]; bad costumes; bad SFX; bad hero; even worse villian...ol' Stanny-boy really ought to be careful just what he lets his name go on just to make a buck. If you're into "le bad cinema" [or S&M] this one's right up your alley, sure to give you the pain you're looking for. -
I see badcattoys has a new arrival: 1:18 "Red Devils" Hornet. Wonder how long they'll keep this one in stock? In an unrelated note: I see they'll have a 1:18 Me 262 and a couple variants of F-86 coming later this year. This should probably go in the 1:18 discussion thread? or did we let that one lag behind a few pages?

I'd like to see one like this scheme: or alternately, since it could be considered 'canon,' how about the heretofore unseen "Navy gray" officers' 1J; it's like Max or Milia's, only w/gray as the primary color? oh yeah--the colors on this Angel Bird are off; and can anyone translate what the little captions say?

Is the wearer intended to be as frail as the mannequin in those pics? Doesn't make for a very intimidating killer cybernetic warrior. But I bet that Cylon could still kick arse and take names---his hands are huge!!

I tell ya what would be funny--if somebody won the auction, picked her up in a nice strecth limo: bar, TV, the works; then leisurly have them driven to the winner's home, at which point he'll reach under the seat, pull out some overalls and a paint can/brush. "There you go. I paid good money for your time, so here. Paint my house, beyatch!" 30K just for time with a woman, indeed!

I dunno; as camo color schemes go, I think I still like these better. Courtesy of the magazines section...

So, shouldn't the title be Batman's Begun ? Sorry, the segway for that one was just too perfect... I kinda like Jack Nicholson's work as the Joker [even though he'd have been better if he were 10 yrs younger when he did it?], and it should be left alone at that. If they developed the character nearly as well as they did in BTAS, Harvey Dent/Twoface would make an excellent film villian. Nah, never mind, he's been done already too. And pretty crappily I might add, in whichever pile of steaming poo that sequel was w/Tommy Lee Jones.

Stan Lee's Who Wants To Be A Superhero
reddsun1 replied to Roy's Blues's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The dude with the fake-metal arm [is that what it is? the pic's kinda fuzzy] looks seriously ripped. Got the physique to look like a comic book hero, but can't see his face too well. Doesn't appear to have a "hero-like" visage. This does raise a good question though: just what is an ideal material for a superhero costume? Do you go the B. Singer route, and forsake "traditional" patterns [let's face it--speedo tights and high boots really don't work too well in this day and age; and capes are certainly hit-or-miss, although Darth Vader and the Batman for the new '89-and-later films do pull it off successfully] for something trendy, like leather? What about the materials used in diving/surfing suits? It's not as clingy and outright geeky as the spandex type stuff, but still seems to offer mobility? Not every hero can go with the urban assault/commando/para military uniform look. -
Stan Lee's Who Wants To Be A Superhero
reddsun1 replied to Roy's Blues's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ummmmmmm, yeah. oookee dokee. Well, television being cyclical as it is, looks like the networks are all trying to cash in on the superhero craze while it's still "cool." ABC is coming out with what looks like a Dawson's Creek-esque teenie-bopper drivel called Heroes. Then there's this glorified [or debauchery, depending on how you look at it] ass-clownery that Stan Lee is up to. Wonder what other networks like WB or UPN are up to, considering their traditionally high-quality, critically acclaimed offerings? *mea culpa* Oops, Heroes will be coming on NBC, not ABC. -
Didn't Know He Was Only That Tall
reddsun1 replied to Roy Focker's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
God, what is it with you people and hands? Oh look Vader has little hands... 416498[/snapback] LOL, one of the best running jokes ever. Let's face it, it's ingrained in our pop-culture, part of the internet lingo. Years from now, when VH-1 is doing "I love the '00's" specials, they'll be taking pot-shots at that one. "....sure, George W. Bush single-handedly brokered peace in the middle-east crisis, ended starvation in Africa, and established relations with the alien visitors in '07---but look! He still just wasn't up to snuff compared to the original. See? Small hands. Just like Darth Vader..." -

Anybody know about this program Trackvision? The data overlay is pretty cool. Love the "traction circle." Seriously, guy needs some foam on his camera mic though. http://media.putfile.com/Brainerd---Best-Lap---Trackvision

Marcos announces unveiling of a new model, the TSO. Hmm, a Marcos that's not endearingly ugly? What will they think of next? Promised performance looks impressive: "The TSO is a performer – a lightweight composite body, space frame chassis and V8 engine provide an impressive power-to-weight ratio. With the Performance Pack the TSO accelerates to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and to 100 mph in 8.5 seconds. Huge 340mm AP Racing brakes deliver a 0-100-0 time of 12.9 seconds. Overtaking is effortless with a 50 to 70 mph time of just 2.1 seconds. Top speed is over 185 mph."

Interesting. The Dodge Charger [which was always considered an intermediate, wasn't it?] looks pretty trim and sleek next to the newer "pony" cars. Yup, I'd go for the classic lines of the Charger any day of the week...

I'm surprised, even after all these years of wonderful customizing of old skool Mac toys, that no one has ever done a 1/55 VF-1S with "anime correct" chest stripes, that more closely follow the outlines of the shape of the chest plate. One of the only things I didn't like about the look of the original 1/55's. I do like Valkfan's custom Max -1J in the customs gallery; looks like he was going for the same thing w/the chest stripe on that one. Or are there some 1/55 1S's floating around out there with correct stripes that I've missed?

Some vids of the Olympia Beer Charger at the Le Mans Classic race. According to the w'site: "We came out of the "raccordement" chicane in 2nd, upshifted in third near the start/finish line and went full throttle until 4500 rpm in fourth into the right hander at the end of the main straightaway. You could hear it roar for miles around !" Only 4500 rpm? Funny to think; the other drivers were probably flogging their sports cars, keeping the revs way up to make power. This one, on the other hand, with that big lump under the hood? That sum-bi**h [motor] just lays up there and grunts. http://www.olympia-charger.com/2006/07/dolmetsch_built.html Then there's the one-lap vid. I bet the Europeans got a kick out of this car. Watch as he just reels 'em in and blasts by on the Mulsanne and other long straight. Also note how he brakes way early though. Maybe he should have taken a boat anchor along with him to help! In pics of the original car, big aluminum ducts are seen in the rear quarter windows. They were ducting for the rear brakes, I'd bet? http://www.olympia-charger.com/2006/07/one_hot_lap_of_.html

Just watched VB: "Assassinanny 911" and it was pretty dang funny. I must admit though; they're really starting to push the limits of good taste and just how far they can go with some of the sexual themes and such, it would seem. That Molatov Cocktease is a hottie though...

It's the damnedest thing I've ever heard of--if anybody does go on a tear in NASCAR, wins too many races, then the fans will start to boo them. Case in point: Jeff Gordon a couple of years back. Speaking of which: the wild speculation and rumor has already begun in the wake of JPM's announcement to join Nextel Cup; seems that publicity test w/him and J. Gordon is still somewhat fresh in the minds of the press. So naturally, folks are beginning to ask: will Jeff Gordon get a serious test with an F1 team in the near future? If such a thing were to conceivably happen, would be a slap in the face to Scott Speed, I'd say--considering he busted his arse and earned his seat, worked his way up the ranks in Europe...
