  1. Ok, so I realize that for quite a few of you, the answer to this is "everything". :D But for the rest of us who collect on a more limited scale, how do you decide what pieces to add to your collection? Or to put it another way, does your collecting have a particular focus or theme? Only Yamato VFs? Only vintage toys? Only vehicles for certain characters? Do you try to get a representative piece in each scale? Do you only collect particular paint schemes?

The most tactical purchases in fact were my VF-1 weathering versions. I wanted them, but because i didn't want to end up purchasing the same models more than once i just got those when i found them. I generally don't play much with my valkyries, so i tend to buy the rarer release.

  2. Hi guys,

Anyone who owns this since 2010, how is it holding up? For a brand new one i would have to spend serious money so i'm hoping someone can deter me... :-P. Is the skull white plastic prone to yellowing?

PS. I never wanted a VF-11c until i realized it was going to be even harder now getting one = macross collector's logic!

    D

  3. Or, rather, I have tried to take them off but the back pack versions are on REALLY tight and I haven't been able to successfully remove them.

The leg parts don't damage anything at all however.

Yes i had read a japanese review that said that they fit very tight, and this is why i asked. Nonetheless, too late... I just bought a VF-17D Bundle!

  4. Just daydreaming, but imagine how relieved you would feel if there was another announcement from Yamato saying "Actually, we are not going anywhere, all this was just so that we teach our japanese buyers a lesson for chasing after Bandai DXs all the time... and so we are on schedule, with VT-1 in June, YF-19 in September, and VF-5000 for December..." - got to stop now!

  5. Actually, I do leave mine on anyway as well, but if there were any valks I would really prefer to have them removable, it's the VF-19s. See, with the P they're gray, and even on the F they aren't so bad, but the bright yellow intake covers on the Fire Valk and VF-19S are eyesores. I mean, I think until the point that we got to the Fire Valk, every fighter in the entire Macross continuity had used grayish intake covers (not sure on the YF-21).

With the Fire Valk itself, ok, the intakes are bright yellow.. it goes with the rest of the plane. But when we got to the VF-19S and F, either the animators got lazy and forgot to change up the color schemes, or someone decided, "Let's just ditch the idea that these are mechanical parts, and paint them in gloss colors!" I would throw painted intake covers in the same category as painting the engine nozzle of a plane bright gloss colors. Sure, you can do it, but the paint is going to be destroyed entirely by standard operating wear and tear.

I was always under the impression that intake covers were bare metal, or whatever kind of composite material they might use. They certainly looked that way on the up-close shots of the VF-0.

I don't want removable intake covers on the VF-19s so I can see inside the engines.. I want to remove them because they're freaking ugly. :p

Agree about the Vf-19s. The gerwalk at least would look much better without them.

  6. It would seem incredibly unlikely as the new company would just buy the molds from the old and the players involved are the same players that decided to make things as is.

Makes sense. Yesterday i bought the P and today the F, but i was just wondering about that because if they do it, it means i will be buying them again. :)

(By the way it was your site Jenius that i read what i mentioned. I'm visiting often lately! )

  7. Just picked up a 19S as well, can't resist at that price, and what with the this Arcadia business. Wanted the P but seem to have missed the boat while on vacation.

I picked up the P from eBay. A small premium unfortunately which, added to the full retail price, was lethal. I'm sure that eventually some will make their way to auctions or websites sourcing out-of-print items, but i don't expect those to be any kinder.

  8. Man, this sucks. So I'm guessing this is it then and we won't be seeing any restocks from HLJ, NY or elsewhere? Wish I got in on the 19P when I had the chance but a lot of expenses came up =(

And the lower priced on eBay are "pre-order and we should get it" type. I already asked... :-)

  9. Fair point, but in the end product diversity was probably a primary issue. Doing the entire range in 1/72 would eventually lead down the same path without the ability to cash in on existing molds and designs ( assuming Arcadia end up with the rights).

Arcadia needs a bigger "net", more diversity with on going products across multiple mediums which will give them a much better shot at capturing more customers.

Also if we take the "likes" on Amazon.co.jp to be any indication, you rarely see more than 10 likes for any Yamato compared to 300+ for the Macross Frontier stuff. Bandai gets away with doing one repaint after the other, due to the popularity. How much would this change if they re-released everything from the beginning in another scale? Personally i'd rather see them release 1/60 but in webshop editions for existing releases and new VFs in a more conservative manner. In May it felt a bit like a garage sale.

  10. Is the Ivanov any good? Heard a lot of negative talk about it but anymoon gave it a pretty good review overall. Loved the Ivanov design... so... conflicted :D

I have the Ivanov and i didn't have a problem with parts, however the gerwalk is a bit helpless. It relies on really weak small pieces to "lock" into place the shoulder/wings/arms area and it doesn't hold. Also the way the wings fold suffers too. I should expect all of them to be this way though.

  11. Yeah...I will admit to the forum that I just went and purchased the following from HK collectibles after my last post:

    TV EDITION:

    VF1-A Mass Production.

    VF1-A Maximillian Version

    VF1-A Kakizaki Version

On another note I also purchased a Bandai 1/100 VF2-SS model kit.

Am I the only one who considers the Mass production version awesome...I don't know what it is about the coloring scheme but I like it.

Ok so you bought the same as the one i said i was eyeing, and you are even admitting it? You are so green!

  12. The cheapest i have ever seen was about 15,000 Yen at Yahoo Auctions with Proxy fees included but without shipping. Generally it's only there that you can find decent prices. I have the Ivanov variant and if i had needed to pay that amount of money (i got mine for about 18,000 YEN brand new without shipping), i would feel okay paying it since it's unique. Generally they are rarer than most other valkyries as they have not been re-issued so the price will never be as low as others. Color-wise it's a matter of preference. I only like the Ivanov, other people only like the Nora, and some people prefer the Mass production. Just make sure that MIB is MIB.

  13. I would say be careful of the VF-1. When i decided to get one, it was a Weathering special. Then i got 2 more Weathering versions, a VF-1d, VF-1s , VF-1j, VF-1a mass and i'm eyeing a VF-1a hikaru TV version. All i wanted was a weathered VF-1!

  14. Although i don't like the gerwalk of the Macross Frontier valks- too long tails- the gerwalk of the Yamato SV-51 is probably my most favorite mode of a valkyrie, and the VF-1's with S&S parts is also gorgeous- the VE-1's even better. So i voted gerwalk overall.

  15. This is a more general question you may have experience in. I am interested in a Gundam Zeon suit master grade, and the modeller who is selling it has used modelling putty to elevate the hips and around other areas. Would you venture a guess how lasting or fragile this sort of renovation is? Does the material disintegrate after a number of years? The hips section worries me slightly because it's thin, and for some reason I'm having visions of it cracking! Obviously i know nothing about modelling so any input will be appreciated before i throw thousands and thousands of yet at his feet!

    Thanks.
