  1. can't believe how much this thread has taken off and everyone sharing their pics! funny how it all gets inspiring to see others posting their collection displays. I can't purchase any new toys anymore without thinking of how it will effect my display and i'm sure some of you are the same way.

I don't have too many updates from my collection these days since i'm pretty much done with what i can afford. Plus i don't have anymore more space!!! the dreaded problem for collection displayers...

I've really been collecting a lot more Transformers as of late, but they don't nearly get as much love as the macross stuff =]

Agreed! I come from a Transformers background but nothing inspired me to take me displays to new levels like Macross. And i also will not buy anything unless i know exactly how i will look on my shelf. I'm glad i choose the 1/48 scale, otherwise i'd be broke & angry trying to "catch up".

Fortunately, Transformers isn't pushing anything i have interest in, the 3rd party stuff is kinda tempting, but not enough to de-focus my Macross themed collecting.

  2. Exactly. Every unique collection big or small has the opportunity to inspire another collector in one way or another.

No one displays there stuff the exact same way. I've see poses, lights, repaints, customs & size comparisons i knew nothing about & couldn't find anywhere else on the web. So i say keep it up.

  3. I am curious to know how many members here (who were introduced to Macross (in the 80's) through Robotech), collect outside the orginal Macross TV series and DYRL? Looking at my humble shelf, pretty much everything I have comes either from SDF Macross or Mac Plus. For me, story content wise, everything after Macross Plus has become less and less interesting. I will, on occasion, see a design I like and take the plunge, but its rare. I guess I just have old school aesthetics :)

    Anyway, just curious....

I'm pretty much the same way. I'm not even a big fan of plus. I'm a big fan of military aircraft. So anything after SDF & DYRL has very little interest as far as collecting. I barely enjoyed Plus, despised 7, but loved Frontier. But with so many mixed reviews on toy quality & overall ridiculous prices I settled in on the 1/48 scale & stayed there, especially since i already collect 1/48 military aircraft models. I've been a Macross fan since 1984 but have only been collecting high-end merchandise for 4 months.

EDIT: let me revise that.. I have to include ZERO. I loved the mecha from Zero. So glad the 1/60 scale is so oversized that they look good on a 1/48 shelf.... :D

  4. NICE!! Very professional weather technique!

I've considered going grey for all my strike/super parts too. That anime accurate blu-ish /green just doesn't look right.

My only recommendation would be to get yourself a ultra-fine black gundam marker to bring out those awesome details. But that may alter the look you were going for.

I had a lot of fun paneling super parts. It's like therapy.

  5. -WOW... I have a lot of catching up to do... most impressive. I'm sad that 1/48 line is dead. Yamato seemed to slam dunk that scale very well, i haven't had one issue yet & that's after a few 6ft suicide jumps. They are built like bricks! They seem so well engineered & reliable unlike the inconsistent various 1/60 lines for Yamato & Bandai.

-My other grief is the lack of Destroid love in the market. Only 2 Destroids in 1/60 scale & the various Konig monsters that are ridiculously over priced in the aftermarket in every scale...

-Oh.... my other issue is too much focus on DYRL in the market instead of the TV series. Since i started collecting mid december, i haven't paid for more then $175 for any one piece but I'd glady drop $300+ on a 1/3000 TV version of the Macross. ;) Until then, i'll enjoy my old-school Matchbox.

  6. .

Wow you are a very brave man for doing that, like the way you customized the bridge dome. I considered doing that with mine but didn't know which blue to use.

Thanks. Still a work in progress....

That sucker is anchored to the ceiling with a 4" screw hook from Target, reinforced with them damn Hasbro pvc covered aluminum twist ties that used to come with Transformers toys, so it isn't going anywhere.

I think i just used whatever fine blue paint marker i had for the bridge window, then detailed the area with a ultra-fine black gundam marker. That red had been urking me for years...

    On another note:

I just rediscovered 30lb strength fishing wire so i may upgrade later. I'm experimenting with some hanging flight poses. May be able to switch it up & put away the Yamato stands for a little while.
