  1. WOW, thanks for the input guys, but I didn't see this becoming a FF7 sucks thread (!). Also, thanks for the news David, looking forward to a dynasty warriors series on vita.

And in other news for mobile gaming, I think this is FANTASTIC news:

    http://www.destructoid.com/dragon-quest-i-viii-heading-to-ios-and-android-263208.phtml

Dragon Quest 1 - 8 coming to iOS and android. I never actually got a chance to beat 8, but got quite far. I'm looking forward to doing so now on mobile!

Honestly, I'm a little surprised a mobile device can handle something like dragon quest 8 though...

  2. All hail Eren the

titan overlord or titan jesus? Oh and +1 for Mikasa for admitting her feelings to Eren.

I'm starting to not like Mikasa. Not spoiler, but rather, how she's just manipulating him to get him to do what she wants and obey him in a strange way. You see it the anime as well, convincing him to fight Annie.

  3. wow, Civ 5 is so fun. I didn't think i'd be into a game like this (more of a platformer/action title guy), but the game's really captivated me. Currently playing through my first game, and watching my empire start to expand is really cool.

I will say, the game is so complex that I can't really begin to wrap my head around everything, and having 6 advisors telling me to do 6 different things isn't helping!

All in all, I really want my first game to be an aggressive one, world domination here I come :D

  4. So I've got some gushing to do. I grew up, as a child, having access to primarily a PS1/2, and have gamed exclusively on consoles (handheld and home) for most of my life. This pretty much means that for the last 8 years, my gaming experience has been restricted to primarily the PS3 for triple A's and other home console experiences.

That being said, PC gaming always intrigued me. I have a father who works in IT (I'm a pre med student, so I know absolutely nothing for the most part about the ins and outs of computers), and he's always offered to buy and build me a PC to the specs I wanted, but I honestly didn't think it was necessary since I had a PS3.

When the time came to buy a laptop for college, and I kinda went the standard route, and bought a retina MacBook pro (the 2012 one). Thus, much of PC gaming was out of reach for me as a standard, since Mac's don't really game. Looking back, I might have jumped on a razer blade instead.

Today, I went ahead and downloaded steam to see if I could get some Mac gaming going. To my surprise, there were quite a few games I wanted available. Thanks to the steam sale right now, I bought Borderlands 2 and Civ 5 (a game I've been dying to try).

I went in thinking the cruddy nvidia GT 650 M discrete in a macbook would be worthless in comparison to the output of something like a PS3. Boy could I have not been more wrong in my life. The detail that I can get from a weak mobile chip is INSANE. The visual performance FAR out performs what a PS3 can do, and I can only imagine how much better a dedicated rig running a GTX 780 or what not can do.

Seriously, i'm blown away by how advanced the tech has gotten in the last 8 years, and how the PS3 has really been at a stand still in comparison to how awesome PC games look and play (going to 60 fps from most of my time spent on a console at 30, and I'm LOVING IT) and I'm honestly wondering if that PS4 I bought will even be able to keep up with PC's right now.

This is really why the prospect of the steam machine has my full dedicated interest, and I'll actively be pursuing one when the time for release comes.

Lastly, HOW ARE GAMES THIS CHEAP?

tl;dr: didn't play PC games, started now, 8 years after current gen of consoles, was blown away by how much better gaming looked on a crappy GT 650M. Am in awe of what legit video cards can do now. Strongly wondering if next gen consoles will even be able to keep up.

  5. Made later, yes? So they can be viewed later. 0083 isn't necessary for watching Zeta, but Zeta is necessary for ZZ (which itself is arguably necessary for Unicorn).

Remember, Isamu said it was getting way too complicated, so we all suggested the core stories. Don't scare the guy off before he's even started.

Haha, alright. I just felt like watching some of the better stuff is a great way to stay invested. If I had to watch 0079 to Zeta straight into ZZ, I'm sure I'd either hate or simply disregard gundam by now. Emphasis on ZZ

  6. Also, like I posted, I'd do the three OVA's (08th MS Team, 0080 War in the Pocket, and 0083 Stardust Memory) DIRECTLY after the original 0079 series (or compilation movies). This is mainly because the first two take place during the original series, whilst the last OVA (stardust memory) is not only good, it leads into Zeta Gundam.

Also, in my experience, the OVA's tend to be some of the best the series has to offer animation and story wise. 08th MS team especially captivated me to the Gundam Multiverse.

  7. Gundam SEED, 00, Wing are all alternate universes. Watch those at your leisure. The rest you listed are all from Universal Century, which is arguably Gundam's "main" universe, and where most of the popularity lies.

I suggest you watch (in this order):

    1) Original Gundam 0079 (or compilation movies)
    2) Gundam 08th MS Team (OVA)
    3) Gundam War in the Pocket (OVA)

    4) Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory (OVA, leads into Zeta)
    5) Zeta Gundam
    6) ZZ Gundam
    7) Gundam, Char's Counterattack
    8) Gundam Unicorn (6 episodes out, 1 more left for April 2014)

After this, you can watch Gundam F91 and Turn A (very far in the chronological future), but they're both mostly self-contained series.

  8. ^Agreed.

I'd love to sit and build a dedicated gaming PC, but I get maybe a few hours a week or two to actually sit down and play games. With that kind of schedule, a pure console is just a MUCH easier and simpler couch experience, something a lot of people, not just myself, value.

Also, I agree that gaming with a keyboard and mouse feels very foreign to me, so the added controller support is greatly appreciated as well. If valve can pull this off, I'm very excited.
