  1. Planning on picking up Bravely Default today. That being said, I didn't really like the demo (I literally played for like 10 minutes, got to my first encounter, and entire party was wiped out. Tried this again several times, kept dying).

I'm going off what others have said (i.e. game is much better than the demo, etc.). Anybody have specific thoughts on demo vs full game?

    Thanks

  2. I got my Titanfall beta key and will be doing a few rounds over the weekend if time permits.

So lucky man! I signed up within a few minutes of the registration opening, but haven't gotten a beta key. Was looking forward to trying it out (I already pre-ordered and paid for it, but I wanna see if it stands up to the hype before actually committing to purchasing it).

  3. So, I picked up a Mario/Luigi Wii U, and it came with Assassin's Creed 3 and Mass Effect 3 for free, which isn't a bad deal at all. I would have jumped on the Zelda bundle, but (personally) I think the gamepad is a little obnoxious and distracting.

That being said, I picked up the physical copy of Windwaker HD. Any other must haves for you Wii U owners out there?

  4. with arcadia announcing (finger crossed) the 0D, could there be a new Zero series in the future? A new series would definitely help drive the sales up, especially for a non-hero toy.

But that makes me wonder, why go for an obscure, non-hero first? Not that I dont like it, in fact I love the design and hope they'll release it, but thats also because Ive owned an 0S before and want something different.

Wouldnt a v2 0S be better for sales? Just like what theyre doing on the M-Plus series by releasing a v2 YF-19. Or there isnt enough room for significant improvements on the 0S line?.

I wouldn't say the 0D is a random non hero. It was actually the valkyrie used by shinn and Edgar for most of the episodes. To be honest, it's probably one of the most iconic jets from Zero :D

  5. Okay so I just recently got my PS3 back and started to play. I've got the update to the PS Store and it looks like they have taken a lot of the demos off the store. There's like only 8 of them as of a few minutes ago when I checked. There used to be a bunch of them. WTF happened?

I think when they moved to the new PS store, most "old" demos were simply removed. That being said, if you've already downloaded a demo in the past, they should still be available via your download history.

  6. I didn't say it can ultra all games at 1080p and 60fps. I said it can ultra or nearly ultra most games at at least 30fps.

So why spend money on a better card? To guarantee ultra, to guarantee 60fps (or more, especially if you're running a 120hz display), to go higher than 1080p (which is more common on monitors than TVs), or to run games on multiple 1080p+ displays.

    Certainly.

Or put another way, Titan is one impressively powerful GPU, the 690 is actually a dual GPU in a single housing. Titan uses less power, has more memory, and a higher clock speed, and is based on the newer 700-series architecture. Because it's a single GPU, it's physically smaller than a 690. However, the 690 is actually more powerful.

Ah, so is the 690 similar to SLI graphics, but saves the hassle by sticking both together in the same card? Sorry, can't get much more technical than that!

    Can you SLI 690s then?

Last question. With the 800 series stuff coming out next year, would it make more sense to just wait it out, or splash out on a card right now. I'm currently debating with myself about a PC build, seeing a lot of games run better than PS4 already (and I can imagine that gap will only widen in the coming years).

  7. On my PS4, when you put in a disc in for the first time, a small "loading" bar will appear. Takes about 5 - 10 minutes to fill, and you can hear the disc drive whir like crazy (worried me a lot the first time I heard it). After that, you can play immediately whenever you have the disc in. Also, while you play, the system will continue to download more data off the disc in the background, so you'll hear the disc drive start to "whir" periodically as you keep playing. I think once the full disc data has been downloaded, the only purpose of the disc is to act as a "product key" of sorts, and let you access the data.

Kinda strange, but I prefer it to the ridiculous install times on PS3.

  8. Picked up Sly Cooper, Thieves in time for Vita, at 10 bucks off Amazon. Not a bad deal at all :D

Always was a HUGE fan of the big playstation "three" growing up (jak and daxter, which lead way to Ratchet and Clank and Sly Cooper), and I don't even remember why I didn't pick up sly cooper for Vita when it came out, but this is a great way to gauge my nostalgia :)

Also, finally got around to downloading windows on my mac. It's not a gaming PC, but it should tide me over (along with that PS4) until I can invest in a decent spec rig (or get a steam machine).

  9. All three of the stolen ZAFT suits from Destiny where lame. Not only where they boring suits in of themselves but they where strait up less interesting rip-offs of Raider, calamity and forbidden Gundam.

    :edit:

And another thing. If Kira somehow did manage to turn off the N-Jammer Canceler at the last second and prevent the Freedom's reactor from going critical (which in of itself makes absolutely no sense on so many levels), then why the hell do we see A GIANT F**KING NUCLEAR EXPLOSION?!?!?

I think it was written off that it was due to the Archangel's (or was it the Minerva's?) cannon firing and hitting the water (at precisely the moment when Shinn impales the freedom). It's redonkulous regardless though. Kira should be KIA after something like that.

  10. You did better than I did. I finished the intro, got to the first big city, did the first assassination, and decided I'd had enough. My experience with it was such that I never bothered with the sequels, even though I had a friend who swore up and down that AC II was the best game he'd ever played, and that I should play it even though I didn't like the first one.

I definitely agree that AC1 got repetitive, but DEFINITELY give AC2 a shot. It actually caught me off guard in terms of how fun it was, and it kind of ditches the "assassinate, find next target, rinse repeat" ideology, going after a much more creative set of missions. Furthermore, Ezio's story is much more fleshed out than Altair's, and we're given a good reason to want Ezio to win that extends beyond "He is an assassin". Heck, Ezio isn't even an Assassin to begin with like Altair.

I'm sure you can get AC2 for cheap now, and it's honestly one of the best games I've played in the last gen. Give it a shot, regardless of how much you hated the first game.

  11. So, I've started to play Assassin's Creed IV. As a fan of the series, but someone who was seriously disappointed with III, IV brings back all the fun that permeated the first two numbered games.

Edward is just such a likable protagonist (compared to Connor) and the setting really makes graphics and Edward's skills pop. There are cities for AC1/2 style free running, but the outside terrain really lends to AC3 style tree running. That, and ship exploration is SUPER fun as well, and really well fleshed out. Water has never looked this good....

  12. If you're planning on gaming, the Surface Pro 2 has around 9% improvement over the original Surface Pro, going by strictly benchmarks.

Honestly, as the owner of a Windows 8 tablet (but not the Surface Pro or Pro 2), I kind of feel like Windows 8 isn't all that great of a tablet OS. Mine is almost always docked with the keyboard, which begs the question, why not just get a decent portable laptop instead? For a little under $1300, you can get a 13" Digital Storm laptop with an i7 and a Geforce 765M (although it's admittedly nowhere near as thin as a Surface, or even an Ultrabook). Although I personally haven't used Digital Storm, a friend of mine got a desktop from them, and he was extremely satisfied with their service.

I get ya that a dedicated gaming laptop may be better for gaming, but right now, I can pick up a pro for $575.

I'd love to get a dedicated gaming laptop or something of the sorts, but I've got a PS4 to scratch that next gen itch, and I've got a retina macbook pro 15 inch for portable power usage (and maybe more demanding gaming).

I don't really have a tablet at the moment (except for an iPad mini, which I will be giving away soon), and I kind of wanted a tablet that I could throw in my backpack [none of my classes allow laptops, so I don't carry it with me] and not weigh me down too much.

This is kind of why I gravitated toward the surface pro. I had the surface RT, but I hated that I couldn't use legacy apps, and the windows app store pales in comparison to the iTunes App store. That being said, I LOVED the keyboard and being able to actually do stuff on a machine that doesn't take up a whole deal of space.

I felt like the Pro should be able to deliver on that slight mobile gaming need [civ 5 mainly, maybe some stuff like read dead redemption/skyrim/borderlands with a controller hooked up, obviously at low settings], and my need for legacy apps and productivity.
