  1. That reminds me, and this is kind of off topic here, but I was wondering: can the VF-25 still use pinpoint barriers as a weapon like the YF-19 and -21? I know it has a knife and all now, but I always thought the PPB punch was more classy and Macrosslike. Adding a knife is too much a step toward Gundam for my tastes. Also, howcome the -25 doesn't feature the ventral monitors of the YF-19? That system was too cool for school.

is it the 360 degree cockpit view that you mean by ventral monitors? yeah.. i think.. from avionic point of view.. the 25 is one step backward from the 19, 21 and 27.. to many limitation in cockpit view.. i love the way 19 cockpit view that let isamu have a clear vision all around the cockpit..

and for the pin point barrier i think it's a lot more cooler in the knife mode.. :p

and for the 22 i think it trying to imitated the yf 22/23 to much.. but in the anime the gimmick is not particularly clear.. to much anime magic in it..

one question.. do the, 22,27,and 25 have internal missile bay? it made me curious where all those micro missile swarming out from when they don't have fast pack mounted in their body

  2. Ok, there actually is one thing you can do that might at least partially reduce the stress that bar goes through if you're worried about it.

I'm not sure how people tend to actually transform this thing, but one thing that always struck me as funny about it: during transformation, you pretty much rotate the hips a full 360 degrees, due to the way the fuselage folds over twice. First, you rotate the swing bar, then you rotate the crotch plate up. If you keep the legs oriented correctly during this, it's probably putting a lot of extra wear on the hip joints (which can't help with them getting loose..)

There is a way you can rotate the whole thing without rotating the hips on their ball joint though. If you bend the knees fully, and then rotate the lower legs so the feet point directly outwards to the sides, there is just enough room to swing the legs around the full 360, and they'll pass under the arms.

I don't know if this is what anyone does already, but I prefer that method to twisting the hip joint completely around. If anyone wants pics of how to do this, I can take a few.

please do make the pict.. perhaps it could help

  3. Got my YF-29 FAST Packs yesterday.

They attach very securely in fighter mode. I haven't tried them in other modes and probably won't, as my YF-29 stays in fighter mode permanantly these days, given how much of a pain in the ass it is to transform.

There's a high level of detail on the packs and nice fine panel lines. I'm happy that Bandai painted the space between the red micro-missiles black this time, unlike on the Tornado Pack space parts.

The only minor issue is with the shield armour. While it clips onto the shield securely, it tends to want to push the shield away from the body of the fighter, so that you often get an about 2mm gap between the shield and the rear of the fighter and from time to time need to push the shield back into position.

I haven't extended the anti-Vajra harpoons or auxiliary propellars or whatever they are in my attached pictures, as I think they look stupid.

    Graham

i think those harpoon are quartz fold emitter that boost the fold signal from rangka that perform like current modern day jetfighter electronic counter meassure .. but..then again i could be wrong :p

  4. The ones that come with the 1/60 Destroids are 1/72 scale I thnk. They're not 1/60. But if you can wait tundrayeti and I are in talks about making a ground crew set for his 1/60 maintenance vehicles. It wont be done until 2nd quarter next year but we've been planning and figuring out the best way to go about it for a while now. And they'll be specifically Macross crew personnels.

OK !! then i'll wait for it!

  5. hi guys.. i'm kinda newbie in the model kits section..

i wanted to buy a ground crew set for a simple diorama for my 1:60 yamato.. and i was wondering from your point of view.. which is better a 1:48 scale or 1:72 scale that look more natural to stand next to my 1:60 vf 1.. i know they are not in scale.. but from your point of view which one better?

    thanks

  6. I have had my 29 on display for about 4 months in battroid. Nothing special just a typical "A" stance, knees slighlty bent. I decided to change the pose and was amazed at how the leg/hip joins have loosened up. The legs basically keep slowly spreading apart until the intakes prevent them from going any further.

Just a little surprised, i'm not new at this hobby and I have read just about every post about Bandai and Yamato having their QC issues. Still when you get an awesome valk that you love - transform it and leave it "untouched" for months only to discover that it no longer holds a pose - man that really sucks.

Looks like its back to fighter mode....bring on the VF-19S!!

    try using nail polish :p

i'm wonder.. if bandai made the vf 19 like in the show.. will it be as good as the yamato? i know a lot of you will say nyeh.. :p

  7. Well, for starters, Variable Fighter Master File isn't part of the official Macross setting... the note on the credits page at the back of the book says as much.

As far as Skull squadron's status in the official setting is concerned, all I've got for you is a great big shrug. Hikuru's skull squad is, AFAIK, still MIA along with the rest of the forces attached to Megaroad-01. Certain other squadrons were likely named after it later on, such as Max and Milia's "Dancing Skulls" and S.M.S.'s Skull team, but I don't think we've ever seen anything of the real Skull squadron since Flashback 2012.

    i c .. tkyu for your info.. :D

  8. hi guys i 'm just wondering what happen to the skull skwadron after the missing of hikaru and misa.. i know that hikaru went with as the leader of skull skuadron with the megaroad.. and then what happen after that? the reason i'm asking this coz i saw a picture of vf 19 with marking of skull skuadron in variable fighter master file..

  9. There is something that has been on my mind regarding the Frontier valks and was reminded of when looking at Jenius' review. Does anyone else feel that the cockpits and canopies for the VF-25 and later designs seem to be comparatively smaller than those of pre-Frontier valks? Back when the v1 VF-25s came out, even though the valks themselves were in scale, they just didn't look like that was the case due to the canopy size, not even taking into account the pilot figures. With the YF-29 and VF-25 renewals, the canopies have lengthened a tiny bit, but the width is about the same and still look much smaller than those of previous generation valks. It makes them feel like they are a smaller scale to me. The VF-27's seems like an even worse offender with the canopy being even more shallow and narrow. There doesn't seem to be room to make the pilot figures any bigger because it would require the cockpits to be bigger. The arms of the pilot figures are already touching the sides of the cockpit.

That made me wonder if the cockpits on the Yamato valks were too big. Now, we know some of the pilots figures that Yamato made are on the large side *cough*YF-19 Isamu*cough*, but the cockpit sizes look about right. They look properly scaled to the rest of the valk, so I can only conclude that Frontier-era valks were just designed with teeny tiny cockpits. Even the SV-51 cockpit and canopy which seems slimmer and more cramped compared to other pre-Frontier valks still seems cavernous compared to the VF-25 and up.

Not really a complaint, just something that crossed my mind and made me think why the pilots are so much smaller even on the renewals despite them filling the cockpits with hardly any wasted space.

i know how you felt man! i do think that the vf 25 cockpit is so small.. with that small cockpit there's not only for the pilot figure but also the ex gear that have to fit.. i try to put hikaru 1:60 in the cockpit and he could squeze in to it.. but the canopy can't be close.. i gues in the future.. pilot become slimmer like a twig

  10. i think i'm gonna pass for this bird..

first it's to damn expensive and second .. i just hate the design.. look bulky i rather like the vf 171 design.. but i do hope the trend for yamato releasing a valk with a price over 19000 yen will end.. and i'm still waiting for a miracle release of a vf 4 for the 30th anniversary .. coz you know 2012 is the year when misa and hikaru lift off to space with the vf 4 as the main fighter for the fleet
