  1. Thanks for the link Gubaba! You just did something I thought was impossible. You just made me love M7. In the context of the meta-fiction that interview establishes, I can now say unreservedly that M7 is awesome! Well played sir, well played
  2. Interesting thread. Personally I would hope not to see any more M7, at least for the time being. Not out of M7 hate, but because I would rather the resources go to some other Macross project(like a SDFM Rebuild). I really, really enjoyed M7, but to be honest I didn't think it was very good. If it wasn't Macross, I doubt I would have hung in past 4 episodes. The ending of D7 kinda bugged me in that is didn't resolve anything, it was just 'The Further Adventures of Basara'. But the more I thought about it, that's how it should be. Basara is kinda of the legendary storybook character about whom there is always another story to be told. It doesn't end, he never settles down and has cute 1/4 Zentraedi kids with Mylene. I kind of consider M7 to be similar to DYRL, in that it's not the 'real events as they happened' but the Legend of Basara, a message of hope spread around the Galaxy, based on real events, but inflated and embellished to provide a more exciting and inspiring story. (Now, I know that is not the official explanation, and that M7 did 'really happen' in the Macross Universe, but that's how I reconcile all the super robot magical song energy stuff in my own head. YMMV)
  3. Really? You work in Pachinko? (or just entertainment in general?) That's kewl, I teach preschool... Like I said somewhere else, I am only 1/2 otaku. I devour the shows, but I don't pay much attention to the sidestuff (unless it comes in a trading card booster pack! ). Well could I tap your expertise one more time? Is the Macross pachinko game exclusive to any of the chain shops, or is pretty much every big one gonna have it. I must admit to a desire to try it. I'd like to do what I did the other time I played pachinko- sit down, feed it 1000 yen and play till its gone. Which is fine cause 1000 yen only last about 10 minutes(if you're lucky) and I was able to get out without having an asthma attack.
  4. Okay whatever you say. And that's not the smart alec rolled eyes version, its the 'Huh really? Okay I'm wrong ' version. I was only going by what gets plastered on the walls and doors of the places; when you see the same 'NEW MACHINE' posters for like 6 months in a row, I had come to assume that new licensed machines didn't come out very often, and were a much bigger deal. I stand corrected, and now know something I didn't, and learned it without having to go into one of those wretched places. so, thanks I guess
  5. But if Maross wasn't popular, they wouldn't have bothered developing the machine. Unlike trading card games, they don't pop out machines for every possible property and then see what sticks. I didn't mean big like 'gundam' I meant big like 'back in the big leagues'. I wasn't trying to say Macross is so popular that fans are clamoring for a pachinko version. All I was saying is that all things considered(current Macross boom and anniversary nostalgia) made it ripe for exploitation. And this is pachinko, so exploitation is the correct word! You point about FotNS is good- it seems like only the best mid-tier properties get snatched up by pachinko. You'll probably never see Gundam pachinko. I'm just glad that Macross is back on the scene!
  6. Whoops, forgot to swing by here when I signed up! Osaka Japan, and here for good. I have a Japanese family(wonderful wife and awesome step-son) so I don't plan to go back to my native midwest (college in Chamapaign-Urbana, lived in Chicago and a tiny town ironically named Metropolis at the other end of Illinois) except for somewhat rare trips to visit. Got my start in Macross from Robotech(don't make that face!) and don't consider myself tainted in any way. Truth be told Robotech was much better than most of the other anime that had been brought to the states at that point(watching old Battle of the Planets or Starblazers episodes makes me want to hit myself in the head with a brick until the pain stops ) When I came to Japan I didn't go crazy and get into otaku life. I really tried to get into the real culture of Japan, but when I met the woman I decided to spend my life with, she loved that I understood and was interested in Japanese pop culture because that was my in to bond with her(now our) son. My resurgent interest in Macross is directly due to Macross Frontier and Macross Chronicle. Money is tight in this economy(I teach preschool), but my wife doesn't begrudge me my bi-weekly magazine, or the occasional plastic model or box of trading cards. Macross was my first anime love. Oh, over the years it was replaced by Bubble Gum Crisis, and late Evangelion, but you never forget your first. And now I have come back, have seen all the series, and happy that its such a great time to be a macross fan. Wow, probably too much information for a 'where are you' thread, but now you know. And in this case, knowing is the entire battle, so DIS-missed!
  7. It was torture all weekend knowing that the concert was going on just a shikansen ride away from me. I don't even have the heart to read the review right now. I didn't even try for a ticket, cash is too tight right now. Glad those who went had a great time, can only hope for a DVD release like the Frontier concert is getting...
  8. It's hardly wasted. Pachinko is essentially a license to print money. Having the newest best machines is how they keep the seats filled. It is essentially legalized gambling. The Japanese government would collapse without the tax revenue from pachinko parlors. Personally I find pachinko tedious in the extreme. You can hardly breath in the places because the cigarette smoke it so thick, and you are deaf from about 10 seconds after you enter. But even I am intrigued by Macross pachinko. When I saw the ads I knew it was big for Macross. You have to be big to get your own pachinko machine
  9. It was a labor of love! Love of Macross, Love of TCG's, and Love of getting my butt out of the house once in awhile! I have a family, so my funds and time are some what constrained, but I was looking for new hobby when the game came out. I have started building the Bandai VF-25 plastic models, which is great when my insomnia kicks in, but this lets me get out and get face to face with other otaku. But I have come to realize that I am only 1/2 otaku- these tcg guys go nuts. I'm slowly building a rep here in Osaka card shops. Of course that rep is 'the white guy who shows up and get his butt kicked all the time'
  10. Howdy folks! When I first became aware of the Macross Crusade trading card game(because of the promo card in Macross Chronicle) I searched for all the info I could find. I found a few posts in English(including one or two here...), most of which said 'feh, trading card games are teh sux' or 'too bad it will never be released in English' So I have no idea if any of you are at all interested, but I have translated the game's rulebook and all of the cards. I am a huge Macross fan, and I used to play lots of trading card games back in the day so I decided to take up the challenge of learning the game. Once I had it down I figured I would try to share what I have learned. You can download the English language rulebook (2.32MB PDF) here: http://www.mediafire.com/view/apd79nkg0897g3p/Crusade_System_Rulebook_1.4.pdf. The card translations are listed over at Gundam War Central. Macross Crusade is a stand alone set of Sunrise Crusade(based on anime produced by Bandai's Sunrise Animation) and Sunrise Crusade is a modified version of the Gundam War game(which is itself a clone of Magic the Gathering tweaked for mecha combat). Set 1- Voices Dashing Through the Galaxy Set 2- Victory Song of Sky and Fire If you have been at all curious about Macross Crusade, or have purchased some cards out of curiosity as a Macross collector, now you can put your cards to use and and pummel your friends Macross style! My next project will be to create a MC Recognition Manual, pairing pics of the cards from the internet with my translations in order to help you learn the cards by sight instead of having go to leafing through pages of text while you play. (The cards won't be scanlated, just a pic of the Japanese card with translation text beneath) The game is a lot of fun, and its great to be able to play with all my favorite characters and mecha. So what are you waiting for? Download the rules and check it out. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I know that the cards are available by mail order in the States, I have been in contact with two players in America. The next set, The Best of F, comes out in December. It is a reprint set comprised of the best Macross Frontier cards to tie in to the Macross Frontier movie. (Yeah I know, a reprint set after only 2 sets? That's movie merchandising for you!) PS- If you are in the Osaka/Kansai area, drop me a PM, we can get together and I can teach you how to play!
