  1. Well, this thread has been going on since 2003... http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=153
  2. Oh, I'm pretty sure you're the real deal, MEMO. You being all buddy buddy with the Harmony Gold staff. The dude's referring to me. Old alias and all.
  3. I wish these official Robotech spokespeople would get grammar classes. There's enough bad copy around the net.
  4. I remember watching that after "The Stupids" on HBO... Um... Better than McHale's Navy? I heard the final nail on the coffin was when the flopped... But that was in the 80's. It's pretty clear starving Robotech fans have come to the point where they will buy anything with the "Robotech" brand. Well, we can pretty much guess what's their "giant" San Diego announcement... Invid!! Woohoo!!! Sadly, I liked it better than Macross II... Wow... That's new to me... and pretty much ends my hope of seeing a Hovertank. Wonder how Matchbox got the rights without BW getting in their way...
  5. Just a thought, but Harmony Gold hinted they were going to release an "enemy mecha". Since the trend for the past three years has been Mospeada all the way, its easy to assume its going to be an Invid/Inbit Trooper. Fair enough, but an Invid? What about the a Hovertank?!! If Toynami is low enough to brand DYRL toys as Robotech (in "limited" production), why can't they do the same with a Hovertank? *sigh*
  6. Ah... the allure of a good flame war... Who doesn't remember their first time? You dare insult the DOL? Curse your Macross 7! I don't know about you guys, but I think these stories are funny. Sad, but funny. Maybe my comic isn't so far fetched after all. Nah, nada. Don't know what happened to the guy. Although for sh*ts and giggles, I checked that anthology site. It's still dead. Is this thread also any indication? I sorta liked that 85-ton ER-PPC armed wonder. I still can't wrap my brains on why former FASA members would consider showcasing the Warhammer in their debut trailer? It's like they're begging to Harmony Gold to file legal action. Still, it would be nice to have Mechwarrior/Battletech fans start hating Harmony Gold again for this if it ever happens. Seto. Seto... SETO! Pipe... DOWN! I... I believe a certain someone has been reading/following this thread in his free time... Don't believe me? *wink* *wink* *nudge*
  7. Here are some "choice excerpts" of some reviews I found on Hulu.com: I love this new addition to the huge world of macross. it takes one of my favorite characters from my favorite robotech series. (the one with the bikes) and continues the story while linking it to the original series and robotech masters. sounds eerily like the superman theme/intro :[ i only watched about a third of the way through, and thats all i could handle. what happen to Optimus Prime? did anyone else notice that around 24:43, the enemies look like a birth control pill holder sending out little pills? I say... OH GOD, IT'S 2006 AGAIN!!! Now, now... Lets put things in perspective, Seto. The current Robotech fandom online is going to hell. If they wanna make BS excuses for not updating their website because nobody's paying them to do it, who do you think will suffer in the long-term? Robotech fans or Tommy, Steve and Kevin? They'll get what's coming to them. Dude, if you start getting too stressed about this Robotech/Macross business, just sit back... and laugh at Kevin McKeever. Not with. At. It seems quite clear we're dealing with a fairly insecure person here. I'm a little concerned though if the man really behave this way... If you have the stomach for it, read this long-running Robotech thread. It encapsulates everything that's wrong with your description of contemporary online Robotech fans. http://www.robotech.com/community/forum/re...&forumid=13
  8. Jason, and to everyone who has been screwed over by Robotech online, I dedicate this comic to you: Not Ten Commandments?
  9. I still believe Boba Fett is the king of fans getting carried away with the character...
  10. Hmm... Weren't they commissioned by Carl Macek? Anyone ever heard of the Starwars: Legacy comics? The ones set a hundred or so years after A New Hope? Or how about the hundred or so stuff that came out for the franchise since the late 80's? Fan-fiction is a pretty... derogatory term. Why doesn't the boys at Harmony Gold officially adopt the Lucasfilms idea of calling the movie canon "G-canon", TV-show canon "T-canon", a novels-only canon, etc.? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_canon You won't consider attending one of those RobotechX BBQs? Who knows? Kevin or Steve might show up and ask them the real deal with the franchise... Here's some highlight guys: • Due to the overwhelming success of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles Role Playing Game, The Macross Saga and Robotech: The Masters sourcebooks, Palladium Books will release two new supplemental RPG books covering the New Generation and The Sentinels era called Robotech: Expeditionary Force – Marines due out later in the year. • The re-release of Maia Sterling's MPC Shadow Fighter will be produced from the same factory as the Beta Fighter and released later this year! ... *yawn* that's really about it.
  11. I heard all the original Japanese Macross characters tried to file a lawsuit in the 80's. They lost. Talk about getting away from your source material... Why not get Kevin Sambieda to do the official Robocast? Doesn't he have his own podcast?
  12. Zilcho on any news about this flick. You could check out the upcoming G-force movie... That's uh... kinda like Gatchaman. Not a shameless self-promotor, eh? Either this "harmless" video is actually part of Kevin McKeever's "ground-level" marketing, or Tommy Yune is a bigger narcissist than I previously realized... Jason, you tell me. You're the one who attends the guy's social circles! There's a recent episode entitled "Macross fans are bitches!!!" Haven't heard it yet. I don't get why you have a bone to pick with that comic. Wolff was in like, two panels? I really believe that comic about Roy Fokker's origin story was an even bigger travesty to printed comics. Lets not even go to Prelude to the Shadow Crapnicles anymore.
  13. Will these movies based on video/boardgames be like Jumanji or Zathura? Or will it be like that Nintendo Power movie??
  14. True. Its a pretty harmless video - although it practically screams (at least to naive Robotech fans) "Look! We're not screwing around! We're working on Shadow Rising!" Pretty harsh words, but that's plain as vanilla Tommy Yune for you. He can take remotely interesting ideas/premise and make them the most bland, derivative trash.
  15. This... certainly came out of left field. Uh... congrats on the tickets? Hey Tommy, instead of wasting time going to Anime Expo and Tribute shows, why don't stop ripping off from the Japanese and do something original for once? Stop turning Robotech into a cheap Battlestar knockoff! And while you're at it, stop exploiting fans to do your dirty work! If you're one of the lucky folks who has a RobotechXTREEEME account, check out their image gallery. http://www.robotechx.com/index.php?option=...&Itemid=137 Can anyone figure out why RobotechX moderator (MEMO) intentionally took a number of shots of the panel audience? Have faith in Toynami's Chinese partners. Their probably paying them slave wages, so there won't be much of an impact in their financial statements if the toy flops (which it won't, trust me).
  16. To give credit where it's due, they did issue a full refund for the horrid Maia Sterling Super Duper Shadow Fighter toy. Thanks for the link! Let's see now which is worth mentioning... Wait... is this even worth mentioning? Hail DYRL. Boo Toynami. The same joke, three years running. Shadow Rising better be the best damn piece of B-grade Korean animation the world has ever seen. Again, is this even news worthy? So right now, WB has both the comic book and video game rights? I guess the rumored Shadow Chronicles game is a bust (unless Tommy Yune and McKeever were able to sell to WB executives that Shadow Chronicles was a super hit and deserving of a videogame) USA, World... be afraid. I believe deep down, hardcore Robotech fans expect rubbish, Z-grade quality merchandise from Harmony Gold (sans WB for now)
  17. Naw, Twitter is cheaper. That, and Kevin McKeever said it would cost them millions of dollars to invest in "web marketing". Strange but true, Robotech fans and staff alike just love to count their chickens before they hatch. Why do you think Kasdan and Roven are still listed in the panel presentations? Oho! Got ya' there buddy. If you check out Kevin McKeever's blog, there's an unusual number of posts about the gazillions of dollars Transformers made at the Box Office. Either McKeever's a huge Transformers movie fanboy or... (read between the lines) Some European game company is willing to invest tens of millions of dollars to possibly develop a "next-gen" Robotech game. A Shadow Chronicles one at that?? Nah... couldn't be. Maybe a Wii game? Quick cash in? Did anyone hint it would be an uninspired cellphone game? Not quite. If there really are 2 - 4,000 extremely hardcore Robotech fans out there willing to shell out their life savings for $200.00 for a "cyclone" and all-the-colors-of-the-rainbow Beta fighters, what do they need Macross for? Stay tuned. I'll be monitoring San Diego a couple'a weeks from now. Thanks Jason, hope you can provide us more inside dirt.
  18. Here is your basic template for a Robotech panel (circa 2006 - 2009). Update just a teeny bit the announcements with "new writer(s) for Robotech LAM", "brand new" Toynami merchandise, awesome Palladium stuff nobody cares about. PMX08: Robotech Panel Parts 1 - 5 Length is about 50 minutes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i30NJ7NZ6a8...PL&index=10 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDtTAknvsjU...EF&index=11 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCZsvu5YUWQ...EF&index=12 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9yAGDcrnSA...EF&index=13 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxQpe30obIQ...EF&index=14 I recommend you check out PART IV of the series... around 50 seconds in. Either that, or people were too busy filing to the toilet after hearing Kevin McKeever's Jackass story for the umpteenth time. On a serious note, I really wouldn't mind seeing a Robotech LAM. Maybe this scriptwriter is "it" and something substantial will come out by November '09. Just let it get away from the original as much as possible so we won't have to endure companies like Toynami making fools of themselves.
  19. I'm glad someone at Harmony Gold/Toynami realized that repainting "Beta Fighters" isn't that lucrative anymore. (especially if the toy it was suppose to connect with sucks Devastator balls) As the good ol' Haydonites (from Robotech: Shadow Chronicles) once said in horribly cliched fashion... "It has begun!" Why do you think those "Stealth Veritechs" are only being produced in extremely limited quantities? Only the hardest of the hardcore are left in Robotech for now. Naturally, expect Robotech.com to boast how it "sold out" in 5 minutes (while pricing it at about 300 dollars of course!).
  20. Updates from AnimeExpo, in case you thought you missed anything important: Harmony Gold/Toynami is back to shoveling Macross repaints like they "own" the license: Gosh, where did Toynami get the idea to paint a VF-1 black and yellow and market it as a limited edition? I'm sure I didn't see that in the Macross animation which they purportedly own. Here's an interesting tweet from Robotech's twitter account: Ah, this one must be their big bombshell. It took HG two weeks to announce this on twitter... Further cementing how slow the Robotech staff is at updating their web stuff: Finally, proof that Kevin McKeever is insecure, and is desperate to show all you naysayers that Robotech is in fact, NOT dead. Despite crappy comics, movies, and toys. Now quit yer' bitchin' and HAIL ROBOTECH!
  21. Yehey! They finally announced when the new Robotech panel is going to be on Anime Expo 2009! Which oddly enough, sounds like the same panel a year ago... and the year before that... I'm expecting one of you Macross fans to attend this gig... don't hold out on us on what "new releases" are coming out in the "wake of the LAM"! I'm all for a Robotech "reboot" or "revival", as long as it doesn't involve Shadows anything. We can also leave out the myriad of Robotech fanboys who proclaim Robotech is superior to Macross.
  22. Ah, then "Inspired" must be the buzzword Harmony Gold is looking for to get around this licensing madness. I can only imagine WB and Harmony Gold execs all huddled in a dark executive theater, watching clips from Macross Frontier, Zero and Plus to convince them how important it is to stick to the original VF-1 design. (What do you expect them to show? Shadow Chronicles?) With thousands of excellent concept artists for hire, it'll be a piece of cake to design a "reimagined" Valkyrie fighter. The fuss about "HG stealing original Macross designs" will be all for naught. *sigh*
  23. Sanman... ever the optimist. Nothing wrong with that, I suppose! A very interesting point he makes... trying to reconcile Spiderman's troubled history getting to the big screen to Robotech's own. I suppose the fact that we're not hearing anything about lawsuits and such means Big West gave up their rights to Macross and Robotech will make it to the big screen relatively unchallenged like the first Spiderman flick? Is it really that simple? Die-hard Robotech fanboys believe that if WB/HG simply "Transformisizes" (i.e. add lots of weird bells and whistles) the original designs of the VF-1, battlepods, SDF-1, etc. there won't be a lawsuit.
  24. I'm just glad that for the first time ever, Harmony Gold's not going around boasting about this like they did with Kasdan and the others. The guy is just not that "marketable" at this point. Even Harmony Gold's Marketing "Guru", Kevin McKeever, refuses acknowledge the writer switch on his blog more than a week after its announcement! (Instead focusing on how Transformers 2 is going to make the big bucks in the Box Office for some odd reason... ) Gritty this and gritty that... Has Watchmen and Terminator: Salvation taught us nothing?! That wouldn't look too hot in Real 3D...
  25. Just be glad Fox isn't doing the LAM. Tob Rob, the recently hired scriptwriter for RT:LAM, wrote books about child murderer on the loose in a Stalinist Russia, and a follow-up novel based on "...the paranoia and instability of the Soviet Union after the newly installed Khrushchev regime leaks a secret speech laying out Stalin's brutal abuses." Sounds like the perfect guy to write a fun PG-13 Summer blockbuster! I can hardly imagine the reaction "casual" Robotech fans would have during the AnimeExpo/Comic-Con panels... Sounds like this film won't have humping dogs and giant Robot testicles (unlike some other Hollywood blockbusters...) I really can't see how an "Idol" character is going to work in this Robo-re imagining. Maybe if they made it noir-ish, it could! They can hire Chase Masterson... That is pretty awesome, EXO. Could do one with JANICE the slurmty cyborg.
