  1. Last Exile looks like "Precious Moment" figurines turned into anime characters. With designs like that I'd be hard pressed to like it even if the story and characters were wonderful (which is not something I've seen in modern anime).

 I can kind of see it in the series artwork, but the animation itself doesn't really look like that. I would say that the plot and the characters were great. Also the setting is just beautiful.

Gankutso is positively obscure. Did you spell it right? I can't find any sites about it.

I could be spelling it wrong, it also goes by the Count of Monte Cristo (as it is a sci fi retelling of it) Try looking for it on the ANN Encyclopedia under the count of monte cristo.

sumdumbgai beat me to part of it.

  2. The impression I've gotten here is that lots of people won't give new stuff a chance either. Check the other "I hate new anime" thread.

Also true, but thats more the feeling I get from this specific board. By and large the other anime fans I've met are only willing to give a series a chance if it was made in the late 90's to present.

of course this is just based on the people I've met.

  3. I like alot of the new stuff coming out (I even thing naruto is ok), But I just don't like it when people rag on the old stuff without giving it a chance. Same with the new stuff. There are some great series that have been released in the past few years (Gankutso, Kino's Journey, Haibane Renme to name a few.) I don't like it when people rag on the all the new stuff either thinking there are no good plots out there anymore or whatever (Thats what I usually watch for is the plot, animation quality is second for me.) So it's not that I prefer either its just that I don't like the people who won't give it a chance for whatever reason. However there seem to be more people who won't give the older stuff a chance (at least that is my perception) when there are some great old films out there.

It's like the people who refuse to watch old black and white movies just because they are black and white.

  4. Screw them, you're better off waiting until college and searching out people more like you.

    True that

Even in my piss poor club I found three or four people who could appreciate more than just this week's episode of whatever trendy pap happened to be in style.

just wait untill then. Oh and if you do get thrown out of the club if they hate M+ it doesn't sound like it would be a big loss for you given the people in there so don't worry about it.

  5. Nobody has any appreciation for the classics anymore. The fandom in this country (for the most part) only wants to watch recent titles, and usually shirks away from anyting made in the 80's (Or god forbid the seventies).

Also (And forgive me if your anime club is not this way but this is just my experience.) my anime club back in college was filled with the most retarded people I have ever met. All the girls literally copied their personalities from Azumanga (and you can imagine how annoying that was), and the guys all thought they were bad ass ninjas, (One guy claimed to be a samurai ). Like I said this was a college club and I can't immagine a highschool club would be any better. So all the girls want to see is pretty boys or boys touching, and all the guys want is cool action and ninjas, but no plot never any kind of plot or character development.

So whenever we tried to play a classic show it was always just make fun of it even if it has a great story, because the animation is old. This does not seem to be an isolated case since most of these people think Gundam Wing is the granddaddy of all anime, and anything before that is crap.

so in short you're one of the good ones Dean. Screw the rest of your club just watch the classics on your own or with a couple of interested friends. Trying to introduce these shows to the club as a whole is like casting pearls before swine.

  6. A vote is being cast to decide if trade sanctions should be applied to Gargamel as we speak... it is the concensus that that should be enough to keep him from bombing any more Smurfs. Just in case Johan and the King have crafted a very stern letter to Gargamel outlining several bullet points of UN code he as violated and delivers a one-two punch of threatening to possibly at some point in the future perhaps maybee think about starting a committee to investigate the ongoing investigation into allegations of Gargamel's intent to possess weapons of smurf destruction (WSD's).

Gargamel's ambasador to the UN, a Mr. Azreal, is quoted as saying "Meeeooooow".

This just in Fraggle Rock has joined forces with the Snorks and Gargamel to form what smurf president Papa Smurf is calling the axis of evil

A video tape from a representitive of Fraggle Rock Vows death to the surface dwellers and the establishment of a great underground empire.

    More as it becomes avalable.
