The War in Star Wars was against the Empire.  Once the Empire fell, it's not war anymore.

What's that polite euphemism?  It's "Peacekeeping" past that point.

Historically some of the nastiest fighting in a war against a dictator or any revolution happens after the dictator falls.  The victors very often only have one thing in common - wanting the dictator out.

  2. They did not need to go that route either.  The Wars could have kept right on going after the Empire fell - just because everyone wanted rid of the Empire did not mean they all wanted the same kind of government AFTER the Empire.  A bit of that chaos starts making people hanker for the old certainty of life under the Empire...

  3. I'd like to see someone treat the source material with respect, the old (I hate to call it the original) movie crapped all over the source book.  Not to say I agree with the conclusion of the book and find it's politics unworkable but it did make a good argument for government by those who had actually risked something.

Sounds like there should be a new genre of movie, being those soooo bad they are only entertaining on long, mind-numbing flights.

Since I was up for roughly 40 hours straight (between flights and waiting for transfers) they could have shown ANYTHING and I would have said it was OK, if I remembered it later at all.  BB I saw at roughly the halfway point in the trip and it was still just, MEH...

  5. Just saw this on a LONG plane ride.  It was, OKish.  Someone on IMDB said it was like having three plots smashed together but only getting 1/3 of the story from each and that is the best way to describe it.  The callbacks to the original film seemed like pandering to me instead of nostalgic as well (the Day-O song being the prime offender there).

  6. I tried to warn you Seto!  Your 13 minute mark is where I decided this film has no hope at all of being good - or even watchable.

The intro on the mirror universe was bad

The info dump briefing was a badly hacked attempt at the Mission Impossible "this tape will self destruct" briefing (or the Star Wars opening scroll).

THEN that bar scene starts and just the camera work alone screams out garbage coming up!

I didn't have any interest in this anyway, so 'oh well...' The whole 'Section 31' thing has been iffy ever since its incemption on Enterprise, and every iteration since just seems to double-down on Bad. Why they think spinning it out over and over again will somehow punch through to an audience that doesn't really care about it is the real plot here.

The problem is not Section 31 in particular.  This movie was bad from the get go.  Terrible writing no matter what universe it was written for.  I say from the get go since I only made it through about 10 minutes.  I was not watching it looking to hate it either.  Last time I had a franchise move that was so terrible was the second Indiana Jones movie.

Who does he actually fight though?  He sucker-punches that one guy while escaping from the stockade at Port Borgo, he buys his way out of trouble on At Achran, he outwits a mall cop or two at that day spa, bullies some children half his size, and then struggles with two out-of-shape desk jockets on At Attin.

Only way to answer that is with another question.  Who in the entire show gets into a fight?  The Droid is the only one that really does.  Jod does a bit more then any other character.
