Skull Leader Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 What's wrong with side-by-side seating??? For a bomber it's entirely practical.
B-52 GUNNER Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 The X & Y B-52's had a fighter style cockpit until Gen. Curtis E. LeMay said it was best for the bomber crew to work side by side. It makes communications easier.
That NOS Guy Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 Maybe the USAF should buy the Megafortress? Now only if it actually existed.
mighty gorgon Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 (edited) BAH!!! the horridness! can we be sure the airforce would choose side by side seating over tandem? Shukhoi Su-34, anyone? Edited July 20, 2004 by mighty gorgon
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 thats russian dude. The last side by side bomber the airforce had was the F-111. THe F-15E replaced it. And it had tandem seating.

Mmm... I guess the B-2 can qualify as "the last side by side bomber" of the US Airforce... (not counting the B-3 from Broken arrow ) As for fighters TRANSFORMED into fighter/bombers (US or not), I have no other reference of a side-by-side transformation (from a tandem one).
