  1. No. I hate SR20s. Gutless little things. Terribly expensive, too. The current plan in motion is eventually to turbocharge the KA24DE. This will come with a whole suite of supporting modifications that will cost me between $8-10,000 depending on a few factors, and will ultimately generate 350whp with daily driver reliability and minimal compromises to fuel economy or drivability. Yawn. Porsche: jerking itself off since 1936.
  2. International Symbol of Access. Disabled driver plate. In my state, disabled drivers can get a license plate that permanently permits them to park in designated handicapped parking spots, without a placard or sticker or any of that. How is it Fiat made a more attractive version of the Miata in every area but price? God I want it. The car is basically bone stock, down to the factory option twin tip muffler. At this point, the only real modifications to the car include an emissions delete (with catalyst still installed) and seats from a 1995. I still have the factory tape deck in my closet- replaced it with a Pioneer I had lying around because I hate FM and my power antenna is broken anyway. Suffice to say it's the cleanest S13 I've seen in person.
  3. Disregard racecars, all glory to my 240SX. Just put some new tires on for the first time in the 3 years I've owned it, and it is SO MUCH better. So, so much. At everything. Second best $370 I ever spent on this car.
  4. Get a cheap craigslist PC, buy some cheap wireless NICs, install pfSense, you done. You just won't have dual band support. Yet.

  6. There's no way it'll be able to come in at $12,000 with a RWD platform. It can't share many parts with other cars, so the unit development cost will be higher. I expect low to mid 20s if it makes it to production, which is still dubious.
  7. The simple fact is the majority of these Jeeps are perfectly reliable. We've all heard anecdotes of broken ones, but they've sold hundreds of thousands of the current Grand Cherokee alone, to say nothing of the last-gen Liberty/Cherokee, or the last 3 generations of Grand Cherokee. (The first two of which sold over a million each) Of course a handful of units of a highly complex product mass produced by the hundreds of thousands are going to be defective. There are so many levels of production for something to go wrong. Something will go wrong. That's why they have warranties, and in most countries, lemon laws. Of course, if it takes 3 years for your car to go wrong enough that you start whinging about it on the internet and have it crushed for shock factor, that's not really a lemon thing, that's just bad luck. Let's not forget the KK ended production in 2012. And for the man with the broken WK2, let's not put too much stock in the $60,000 figure. That's 60,000 AUD, which is $42,000 US, and just about every car has a huge shipping and tax markup in Australia, which is historically why domestics and Japanese imports have been the most popular vehicles in Australia. They cost the least to get to the dealer. A Jeep made in Graz, Austria on the other hand, costs heaps more to move. It's not really Jeep's fault he spent so damn much money on his car. All that said, it's easy to make Chrysler, and especially Jeep, a pariah. It's a well-recognized brand with popular vehicles, but it doesn't have the scale or unavoidability of the larger manufacturers, like GM, Ford, Toyota, and VW, who all have much higher failure numbers, but not on easily-recognizable models. Nobody ever cared about the Chevy Cobalt or VW Jetta, but those are two of the least reliable cars ever. Even my Jeeps have treated me better than that.
  8. Who really wins? The guy who trashes the car he paid for, or the manufacturer who has sold hundreds of thousands of that car? Me, I'm gonna keep driving my Grand Cherokees. I hope the WK2 gets an undeserved reputation for being a lemon, honestly. It'll bring the used market price way down. I'd love to get one of those for the stable. A facelifted Overland 4x4 Hemi, oh man. Get the price down under 20 grand, I'll be all over that.
  9. I think I'm on board with the recommendation to start with either 08th MS or 0083. They deal with a lot of the core principles of Gundam, without being unmanageably long or dealing too deeply with feelings. (Bernie, no...) While G Gundam is great, and I do recommend watching it, if only for Domon, it doesn't really set an over-arching tone for Gundam as a whole. Also I feel like it's about 40 episodes too long. If you're going to start somewhere with Gundam, it can't really be G Gundam. I think at this point, it's no spoiler that Amuro and the Gundam win the One Year War for the Earth Federation, so I don't think it's strictly necessary to start at the beginning, but even some other ancient non-spoiler stuff (a la much of Zeta's story) doesn't really work very well without a primer on the UC. And much of the new stuff, which is spoileriffic, relies even more heavily on the rest of UC Gundam. I'd go so far as to say Gundam Unicorn is a must-watch anime, let alone a must-watch Gundam series, but there is really no point watching it unless you've seen Zeta and Char's Counterattack at the very least, and those are going to require some kind of intro into the Universal Century. All the same, I don't think I'd recommend a non-UC Gundam show as a starter at this point. Wing was fine when I was a kid, but it doesn't hold up to nostalgia, and SEED honestly isn't bad, but it bears the weight of its director's sins. And then there's 00, which is modern Wing, AGE which isn't worth mentioning, and Build Fighters which only kind of counts as a Gundam anime. (Even if it is AMAZING) That leaves us with Iron Blooded Orphans, which is just beginning, G-Reco which tanked, and Turn A which is too far out there to start off with. So, yeah. Start off with 08th MS Team, then watch 0083. #GATO
  10. Because no matter how many moderators you have, online communities are strangely short-staffed. Almost like some mods forget they're mods until the moderation they have to do becomes controversial. I don't disagree with having one Gundam thread, but given how full of content some of those threads were, one wishes it would have been possible to merge them rather than just lock the smaller of the two.
  11. The GE90 is the most powerful jet turbine in the world. It's also the largest. That's not likely a coincidence. Of course, based on what the man was saying, I'd believe the low-pressure fan would stay close to the same size while the high pressure sections are enlarged for various reasons. For example, the high pressure turbine and compressor have been limited in size by materials strength, but if they were larger they could make more power and achieve greater fuel efficiency. Newer, stronger materials could help in that way, and the engine would be larger, even if the high-bypass fan on the front stayed the same size. It's my understanding the GE9X is basically exclusively designed for the 777X, which has as-yet unannounced design changes which could more easily accommodate even a larger-diameter engine. Boeing has really gone whole hog on this -8 program. Yellowstone keeps going over budget and falling behind schedule, so I guess I can understand the stop-gap measures. Of course, I can't say I even want to see the 747 and 777 replaced by new aircraft anyway. It's always a little magical for me to watch one land here at D/FW, in a way that the A380 just doesn't quite match. I dunno, maybe I'm just biased from when my dad worked for Boeing.

  13. Yeah, Asus in general has really dropped their QC standards. MSi and Gigabyte seem to be better options at the moment. If you need something dead reliable, you might try SuperMicro, but they are slow as all hell. POST times over a minute are just normal operation, even on the new X10s.
  14. The Subuyota BR86 isn't a hatch. It has a trunk like any 3-box. Also I think the ND chassis is frankly too small to turn into much else. Of course, that might be Mazda's takeaway from the Toyota-Skyactiv deal. We'll see what happens. As for the RX-7, I had an FC. That's the most basic car I've owned. Naturally aspirated, manual everything (down to the steering), 143bhp. It was not any faster than an SA22C/FB, but it did out-handle and inspire more smiles than the FB did for me. And it truly felt like an extension of RX-7, and not a new kind of car. I can't claim to have driven an FD, but everyone I've spoke to who has, says it's an even more back-to-basics ultralight performer than the FC was. I should also mention that my FC was something like $14k new. Hardly more expensive than the SA/FB. Now, sure, the TurboII and GL existed, but those weren't the basic car. And the jump from FB to FC to FD wasn't nearly as big as any of the RX-number jumps. RX-4 was a Luce with a rotary engine and RX-5 was either Cosmo or REPU depending on your market. RX-3 was a Familia Rotary, and RX-8 was a 4-door 4-seat sport gran coupe. FB, FC, and FD were all consecutive iterations of a dedicated sport fastback. Of course, the RX-VISION represents a car separated from the RX-7 by another model, and 25 years of development. There's no way it could be an RX-7, and there's no reason it should try to be.
  15. Yeah I doubt it's the drive then. Faulty cables seem most likely. You might also consider updating the BIOS if it's not the most up-to-date version available, as well as any drive controller firmware for board and disk. Those can each cause their own problems, and it's free and mostly painless to rule them out.
  16. The phrase "loaded for bear" comes to mind. My favorite mobile suits are the ones that come bristling with weapons. More weapons than they really know what to do with. No one signature weapon, just a lot of guns and swords. That's why I'm such a big fan of the Sniper K9 and the Nu.
  17. Skip the S6. My dad has one and he hates it. Also the Note5. My best friend has one and he hates it. Samsung have gone a bit stupid lately. I, for one, have been generally impressed with the LG G4. I've also heard good things about the Nexus 6P, but I don't really keep up with the Nexuses since they've historically been a bit incredibly lackluster. What kind of SSD is it, and how old? Replace the cable first, to be sure. That's the cheapest solution. But if the SSD is a bit old, random unbootable errors can be caused by the drive itself. At work we require all SSDs to be provisioned in conjunction with a PCI RAID controller to detect media errors before they make the drive go unbootable or die completely, which is a big issue. We're seeing lifespans under 2 years for most SSDs, compared to 3-7 years for various models of HDD, at least in server applications. None of this is to say the SSD is the cause, but I'm leery enough to keep my eye on the drive and the motherboard as potential causes, even after changing the mounting and replacing the cable.
  18. So, I disagree on a few points. First off, I don't feel like the SA22C is the definitive RX-7. I think all 3 generations portrayed what RX-7 means perfectly, within the context of their eras. The basic Japanese 70s-sport performer, the sports-GT of the 80s, and the ultralight of the 90s. It's hard to pin one down as being a definitive version, because they really were all the same car, differentiated only by era, and each one is a perfect representation of Japanese sports cars in each period, as portrayed by the rotary engine. They all fit the formula. Only the details differ. Second, rotary Miatas are rotary Miatas. They're not RX-7s. And why should they be? The RX-7 was just one Mazda rotary. Genesis was the Cosmo Sports 110SP, and we've had every RX-number through 8. Most rotary cars have been a variant on an existing car, and not the bespoke chassis the RX-7s and RX-8 were. That's not to say I think Mazda should build an RX-Miata. I actually had the chance to drive an NA today. It's really not a car that feels like the factory could have done more to it. If the car needs more than it's got, that really is up to the owner, and that's the beauty of that platform. It isn't all things to all people, it's the basic platform to provide everything you need to have the roadster you want. I, for one, think an RX-9 on a new chassis, in the vein of the RX-7s, could be one of the best Japanese sports cars ever, and certainly the best one this decade. But I don't want another RX-7 and I don't want a rotary Miata. I want an RX-9, because Mazda is more than capable of carving out a new legacy for their next RX-car, without having it stand on the shoulders of giants.
  19. I want a Mach 5 that isn't based on a C4 chassis. Also a Warthog from Halo with a much greater degree of game accuracy than anyone's accomplished. (For very good reason, to be fair) I want a lot of things actually. So many dreams, so little funding.
