  1. Hey, you guys know those Variable Fighter Master File books we all drool over? I just discovered today that there are at least four Mobile Suit Master File books, too.

    RX-78 Gundam

    RGM-79 GM

    MSZ-06 Zeta Gundam

    RX-78GP01 Zephyranthes.

I'm mentioning this for two reasons. One, if you're like me, you maybe didn't know these existed. And two, if you did know that they existed, maybe you could tell me if there's more than those four?

There's one for the fictional Ace Combat ASF-X Shinden II, I think.

Also a RL one for the retired F-14 Tomcat,

    "Visual Master File F-14 Tomcat".

    But not for Gundam.

  2. Looks like Gundam the Origin is very Char centric. Is this retelling 0079 or is it more of a prequel to 0079? If it's the latter does that mean that no Gundam will appear in this series?

Well i don't really know anything about it. I just assumed some of the hard core fans would know more info. Wasn't this a manga already? I don't know. I have a newborn and a high pressure job so i don't have time to scour every Gundam news site and forum to keep up with the level of knowledge that you expect me to have. Macross is the only thing i really keep up on and usually only from this forum. Seriously it wasn't an unreasonable question. Jeez calm down.

It seems like the extended flashback arc animated. In the manga it began after the Jaburo arc and goes on for 25 chapters with new content covering Char and Sayla's past from Zeon's assassination through to the Battle of Loum, before returning to the main story. In context, of the total 12 hardback collector's edition volumes of the entire manga, this is 3 whole volumes.

If they only decide to animated this arc, then no Gundams.

  3. Just picked up #80 and, it blew my socks off.

No, not the content (nothing really new), but how they handled the corrections: 1 reprinted foldout page (yawn) and 2 (!) pages of correction STICKERS.

    Yes, stickers.

    ....

No kidding, those two full pages of stickerrata is going to take some time to apply. Seeing how they extended the run to 81 to include the indices, couldn't they have ordered a run of errataed only sheets? Ugh.

  4.

The VF-X2 video game predates Macross Frontier and the concept of Fold Quartz by almost a decade so I don't think that lens would be Fold Quartz. Though with retconn, anything is possible :)

Manfred Brando was a sponsor of the 117th Research Fleet, and Ozma was kicked out of NUNS for decking the guy after the catastrophe in the novels and Macross Chronicle. They are probably retconning the Sound Jamming System to be based on Fold Quartz.

  5.

Macross the First weird....or not that weird?

Eh, pretty tame. Sort of reminds me of the VF-25 super pack configuration.

Two additional FAST packs in additional to the normal dorsal packs mounted on the inner wing hardpoint, one variant swaps out the extra missile modules for additional fuel tanks.

  6. The book on the VF-1 makes a lot more sense. As much as I would prefer a book on the VF-22, it just isn't mainstream enough.

After all, the Macross version of 'sex sell' is 'VF-1 sells'...

The alleged VF-22 book is another ISBN

    9784797374339?

    Seems like another book.

Is there really that much left to say about the VF-1 to justify another book? Although I wonder if the featured tech in question is not the Sdf-1 itself, and is only named that way to associate it with the Vfmf series as the Macross is not a VF.

  7. Fanart variant head speculation of what the Cavaliers "Dark Bird" VF-1A looks like in Battroid?

BTW, does anyone have any info about the complete range of the partsforming SD Macross Bandai Kits being hocked by this OP that were actually produced back in the 90s? There is a screenshot of the VF-1J box in the extra report in the goods sheet for 35.

I used to have the SD VF-1J Armored Battroid, VF-1S Strike Focker, VEFR-1 ?VE-1?, and I vaguely remember a Q-Rau Max and Miria. Were there any more actually produced?

  8. The VE-1 Elintseeker is a recon/ECM VF-1, one of them appeared very briefly in the DYRL movie.

There is also a similar looking SDF Macross series version, the VEFR-1 "Funny Chinese" without the FAST Packs and modified wings and tailfins that appeared briefly in Episode 27.

Both were shown only in fighter mode, I believe.

  9. Was hoping someone could tell me the difference between the two books. They both say master file but only one says modeling manual. Could you let me know the difference and which you'd prefer?

The Variable Fighter Master File (VF-xx) series are fictional technical manuals written from a in-universe POV, detailing the various technical system specs, armanents, paint schemes and operational history of their respective VFs. Illustrations are a mix of line art, CG, and model photography.

The Variable Fighter Master File VF Modelling manual is a photo showcase of various realistically painted/kitbashed VF plastic models, with one example tutorial using a Hasegawa 1/72 VF-1J kit to demonstrate how to detail up a kit.

  10. Go to account management on the far right of the menu screen when logged in to your new account. Select Redeem Code (the icon with the 123) from the drop down list.

Enter said code using onscreen keyboard that appears.

A PlayStation store page should pop up allowing you to download bonus DLC.

  11. Transform to fighter and make a break for it the moment you see Gunness activating his melee SPA. Units are briefly invulnerable while executing their special attack, and at this point his attack will probably kill you outright if it connects. Evade in fighter until it wears off. Or activate your own SPA for the temp vulnerability.

  12. What about the whole thing with Vanessa's glasses? I have all five volumes, but sadly my Japanese is nowhere near up to snuff. Hell, I don't even know why Hikaru wasn't allowed to attend Minmay's birthday party!

Hikaru was being confined to his quarters by Focker for disregarding his orders and rushing in to rescue the Cat's Eye himself.

I guess being called a goggle-eyed goldfish by Kakizaki was the last straw?
