Difference? Fugu IS Valkyrie Factory. (Or so we believe). As such, the Fugu is just another VF-1S in a different color scheme.

I do like that we can add a cheap Valkyrie Factory strike pack to the Fugu as a result.

I was kind of hopeful that the newer ones might have had better qc/production values. The apparent care given to the paint and packaging of the Fugu made me think that maybe the production tools were being used by a different party, but it's just as likely that it's the same backing.

At the bottom of the cover page they mention some of the items in the catalog are made of wood, and may not reflect the actual production items.  :)

You can tell because they weigh the same as a duck, or a very small rock 🤪

What is Toynami's quality so far?

Pretty chequered. Their better products have been manufactured by third parties, where Toynami functions as a brand partner/regional distributor. The homegrown Toynami stuff ranges from "ok" to "disgusting".

  4. Awesome work. That must be one of the most comprehensively modified 1/55s in existence! I'm particularly impressed by the completely novel hip joint nesting in what looks like a slide-open nose blister, and the integrated intake covers and toe extension, but that's hardly even scratching the surface.

    Good show man.

Here is the back cover with the "M" for Macross (Attack Team) embossed on the J head.

Neat! Looking at the image closely, it appears that the 1J's visor constitutes the "A", and the chin makes up the "T" to spell out MAT vertically.

Fantastic post, and grats on completion of the series! Thanks for sharing them here.

Hello and thanks for your reply, indeed it would make sense to have a 90s version compared to my age, however it says "bandai 1984" so...don't know, the copyright isn't always reliable on the truc product year I suppose. On your link it really ressemble the 1990 version. I'll dig into it. How to be 100% sure though ?

The copyright date of 1984 refers to the creation of Bandai's mold for the toys. We can tell that yours is the 1990 release because the head sculpt is completely unique to that one release.

Not sure which screwcaps you might be thinking of, since I don't think the original Yamato ever even had any.  All they did for the PF releases was put little paper stickers over them. :p

That was in reference to something that Radioguy posted on the last page. Never owned a V2 myself personally.

  8. That really is a crazy mashup, but I don't totally hate it. Like the VF-17 on the last page, there's some charm in that sort of thing. The 1/55 illustration on the box and Spacy markings definitely fall into that 'huh?' category, but I think that they should go further and put, like, Amuro Ray on the box or something too.

Screwcaps probably won't be included, as the Valkyrie Factory ones didn't have them either.

I was wondering about that too, since many videos also show those cavity fillers being very gappy once puttting the valk in poses.

Not that big issue for me I guess, since I’m currently displaying my Yammies without them anyway.

In at least one of the videos that showed excessively gappy side covers, the reviewer didn't seem to have the swingbar armature properly connected to the hip sockets or backplate, so the backplate wasn't fit as closely to the cockpit fuselage as it should have been. It's possible to make the same transformation error on both the Yamarcadia and DX valks, so it seemed like a pretty cut and dried case of mistransformation.

So played around with the leg extension and settled on this much extension as a compromise...not enough and it is still too short, too much and it just looks wrong....at this amount of leg extension it is just about the same height in Battroid as the Yamato 1/60 VF-1....

Have you been able to have a look at the elbows? The suspense is killing me.

What the peanut gallery (me included!) would like to know is whether the part I've highlighted in pink articulates, or whether it's fixed to the forearm armor. It looks like it should pivot in the forearm at the same mounting point as the skinny elbow piece, to 'bulk up' the appearance of the elbow joint. The earlier prototype photos shared on the last page all showed that part rotated out parallel with the skinny elbow piece, but none of the user images of the actual toy show it deployed.
