  1. Just watched the first episode of Revolution. Wow, what nostalgia! The show gave off that 90s Slayers vibe very well. When the recitation for the Dragon Slave came up, I immediately said the incantation by heart (in English of course). Zelgadis, my personal favorite, also retains his awesomeness, even if he didn't do that much this episode. This was my most anticipated anime this summer and it is definitely proving itself to be a great walk down memory lane. The only thing I'm unsure about is Pocota (the small little character with the zipper on it). Seems like he'll play a big role in the show, but I've never been fond of little mascot characters like him. Of course, he could be a good character, but I'm just judging by appearances.
  2. Code Geass R2 is the biggest anime disappointment I've had in quite some time. Honestly, the writing just feels sloppy. The first few episodes were pretty much a repeat of Season 1. Lelouch living normal life, gets geass, assembles Black Knights, etc. Totally killed the epic cliffhanger from the first season. R2 has also played host to absolutely ridiculous plot twists. Seriously, one million people and a dog (yes, a dog) dressing up as Zero? Gino and Anya transferring into Ashford for absolutely no reason? Orange's Geass Canceller also just adds to the ridiculous plot twists and seems like nothing but a deus ex machina. Not to mention the fact that they are still doing school episodes. Why? Kallen is kidnapped, theres still some drama with the Chinese Federation, Lelouch still has to take down Britannia, and we're still wasting our time with pointless 90% filler school episodes. It makes me wonder whether we can really wrap things up sufficiently by R2's end or if we get a rushed ending like Destiny. Speaking of which, Code Geass R2 reminds me of Gundam SEED Destiny. Worse than its predecessor, wasting time with filler (school episodes for R2, clip shows for Destiny), the personalities of the characters being downgraded, and immense popularity despite the poor quality. Thankfully, at least most people outside of Japan acknowledged that Destiny was trash, whereas R2 still has a humongous fanatical following and is ranked as a top ten anime on many web sites like my anime list and Anime News Network. Despite all that, I still continue to watch, hoping it can recapture the greatness of the first season, which was a genuinely great anime.
  3. I like Nanase and I don't see how anyone can hate her. Nanase hasn't done anything that seems worthy of hating her. She is also a very attractive girl as well. I just love girls with glasses. Actually, Frontier is one of those few anime where I like pretty much every character. Leon is honestly the only character that I can say I really dislike.
  4. Great episode in my opinion. Nice to see Ranka make a gigantic comeback with regards to the love triangle, although seeing Sheryl's reaction made me feel really sorry for her. I get the feeling that no matter how the love triangle turns out, I will still feel really bad for one of them. They really make you attached to the characters in this show. Ranka's appearence and song was definitely the highlight of the episode for me, although the Macross at the end was a huge surprise. What with the next episode being called "Memory of Global", hopefully we'll get some answers. I would assume Global definitely is not alive at this point due to his age (if he is, and he hopefully is not, it will be a major WTF moment), so it'd probably be a memoir left behind by him or something similar to that. Whatever the case, next episode should hopefully provide us with tons of background info. I'm personally a bit iffy on Zentradi looking like Breetai, Kamjin, and Exedol. I like homages, but making characters who look almost exactly like previous characters is a bit too much for me.
  5. Gurren Lagann is a masterpiece of a series and I'm glad we're getting the Parallel Works music videos as a nice form of fanservice. I loved the one that just came out. Having Viral's wife from the dream sequence in the video was a nice touch. I also cannot wait for the Libera Me From Hell one. Easily the best song on the whole OST.
  6. I can't wait for this anime. Slayers was one of my favorite anime during my formative years as an anime fan. Revolution will, at the very least, make for good nostalgic memories. I hope we see more of the Zelgadis/Amelia pairing that so many fans (including me) wanted to see, but never did. Slayers does have a rather interesting mythology behind the series, but it isn't something that dominates the show. Most of the show revolves around a mix of humor episodes and more serious action episodes. Also, Slayers is connected to another show, Lost Universe. This connection is explained a bit in Slayers Try, the third Slayers series, where the mythological aspect plays a rather large role.
  7. You know, I was just about to mention that. Not sure if it was inspired by Macross, but it is a definite similarity between the two Vandread was a pretty awesome show. I just got the DVDs for $5 each from that Right Stuf sale on Geneon DVDs. Can't wait to rewatch it.
  8. Well, as far as the type of Macross fan I am, I must say that I liked the characters and the relationships between them the best. Both Macross Frontier and SDF Macross have very likeable characters and the way they interact, especially the love triangle in SDF, is the main thing that really attracted me to the series. The mecha is a bonus and the whole song thing is interesting and makes the show unique. As far as the type of Gundam fan I am, I prefer the UC universe, but I don't mind some of the variations on the Gundam theme. G Gundam was one of my favorite Gundam series because of it was so over the top and just plain awesome. SEED is decent if you pretend Destiny doesn't exist and 00 has restored some of my faith in the franchise. The only Gundam shows I really disliked were Destiny, which started out good, but then declined massively, and Wing, which had pilots that were way too invincible for their own good, although I will admit it had some pretty badass action scenes, so I don't totally dislike it. I hear ZZ Gundam has a pretty terrible first half too, but I haven't seen it (only UC show I have yet to see). With mecha in general, I tend to prefer the more realistic "Real Robot" shows. With the exception of Gurren Lagann and G Gundam (and maybe GaoGaiGar in the future), I tend to avoid Super Robot shows. Also, what are the key episodes of the series that you're talking about?
  9. Favorite song is definitely What 'bout my star (Ranka Version) thus far. I also love Infinity as well. Ninjin loves you yeah is also a guilty pleasure of mine because it sticks in your head and doesn't go away. Frontier has one of the best soundtracks in years.
  10. I actually got introduced to Macross through Frontier as well. The sheer awesomness of Frontier convinced me to finally get into the Macross universe. Before Frontier, I was a huge Gundam loyalist, but Macross is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. So far, I've watched SDF Macross and DYRL. I'll be using the two week break from Frontier to watch Plus and Zero. Anyway, I was wondering, should I even bother watching Macross 7? Or should I just look up the relevant info on the internet and not bother watching it? I've heard the show has some important info (I already know about Max's marriage problems), but I've also heard that the series quality in general is quite low. I don't feel like watching 50 episodes of a lackluster show, but I've heard that Macross 7's later episodes are much better than their earlier ones, so I'm not sure whether I should watch it or not. Last time I watched a lengthy lackluster series was with Gundam SEED Destiny and words couldn't convey how much time I felt I wasted.
  11. Hi, new member here making my first post. To me, it actually comes down to a tie between Ranka and Nanase. I love the innocent, shy personality of Ranka and really sympathize with her efforts to be an idol. At the same time, Nanase is great because she has a decent personality and is easily the most attractive girl in the show. In the end, I decided to vote Ranka because poor Ranka needs more votes. Hopefully she becomes more of a competitor for Alto because right now, Sheryl is beating her by a mile.
