  1. Of the original, probably Paradise Lost (because while it's fairly important, it's not very eventful, and a little boring) or Broken Heart (because Kamjin kidnapping Minmay really isn't an interesting plot).

Worse still probably would have to go to Macross 7's "Fleet of the Strongest Women" and the second episode of Dynamite 7.

FOTSW because it's flat out THE worst episode of Macross I've ever seen. An abortion on every level, and dragging DYRL crap into which has no place in the canon timeline into M7 was most unwelcome. Thankfully it's just a non-canon bonus episode of no consequence.

Second episode of D7 partly because it's uneventful and boring episode, but mainly because of the atrocious, completely out of place and inappropriate Mylene near-rape subplot. Whichever bonehead writer though that was a good idea should have been fired.

...and I like Macross 7, so those two episodes being so bad really bugs me.

I don't see Global's Report or Phantasm as being poor episodes because I don't have the silly knee-jerk disliking of recap/clip episodes some people seem to have. GR was a rather well done recap, and Phantasm is probably one of the more inventive use of a clipshow I've seen, one that still managed to actually have some importance despite having no new animation in it.

  2. I would agree its a homage to recent anime and the old gunbuster, but i don't agree it would have nothing that ties back to the original. I'm quite sure they will tie in, based on some stuff that i've already stated and observed before.

It's also fairly easy to miss that Jupiter colony in Diebuster is the remains of a Super Exelion class ship.

I don't think the two will ever link together more than a few homages though. Nor do I want them too, since Diebuster as a whole is rather lacking, to put it mildly.

  3. Though what irks me is the whole, "For the first time, anime fans can enjoy Macross as it was originally presented to Japanese audiences more than twenty years ago". Can they really blantently lie like that?

Where's the lie? It is the first time people can just watch the show the way the Japanese did, rather than reading a subtitled translation of it.

  4. Ok, but what I don't get is why would Shinn blame Cagalli's family for his family's death? Is it because he only supports the side that just so happens to be the most powerful at the time?

Shinn's family came to Orb because of their lofty ideals of neutrality, peace and cooperation in place of strength.

Then those ideals turned out to be worth zero, because despite Orb's questionable build up of military power in secret, they were steamrolled by a faction that did use it's strength.

That's why, years later when we jump ahead to Destiny's time, Shinn's stated goal is attaining the strength to protect what he cares about. The fact Orb sold out their ideals and immediately jumped into bed with their conquerers and joined up for Project Kill All Coordinators was only a further betrail.

And why would Shinn blame Kira for killing stellar when it was Neo who didn't keep his promise to move Stellar away from war and instead putting stellar back into a mobile suit/mobile armor?

Because if Kira hadn't been there Stellar probably would have lived.

Neo stopped Shinn from unknowingly killing her. Kira was the one who pressed the attack against Destroy multiple times when it had stopped it's own attacks, Kira's presence was what made Stellar flip out after Shinn had calmed her down, and Kira was the one who directly killed her.

Whatever the writers were thinking, Kira and three ships alliance still have the best vision and are the "heroes" imo: they merely want to limit casualties on ALL sides, not just thier own homeland.

This is complete nonsense, and the show clearly displayed it as such. The three ships group were completely absorbed with putting their own interests and that of their precious Orb (which is the centre of the universe and always right) above all else.

Freedom was the one who did all the work of taking Destroy down.

You must be joking. Kira flew circles around Destroy bouncing beam rifle shots into surrounding buildings. He did nothing until Shinn had actually stopped her.

  5. I haven't heard of the anime, but that story sounds really odd.

It probably sounds odd because that is a pretty horrid translation of the plot description.

This should be a bit clearer:

Thanks to troublesome apartment-mates Rouri and Kanamoto, who had fired a rocket into an American military base, Asap Suzuki found himself chased by the US Military forces and police. Escaping on a bike, Asap saw a light come from the rising sea. Appearing from within the light, a strange battleship flew into the air. Asap was pulled in by the waves and when he approached the ship, a beautiful girl was onboard. On the feet of the girl, who identified herself as Princess Luxe of Byston Well, were shoes with shining wings. "My father is Shinjiro Sakomizu! Help me, Asap Suzuki!", the girl declared. Asap was perplexed. The girl knew his name upon meeting him for the first time.

The ship wasn't the only thing to come from the light. One by one, otherworldly people appeared and Asap was overwhelmed by insect-like machines. The town was engulfed in flames from the ship's bombardment.

Upper Earth and Byston Well... the war across two worlds began.

  6. Panon, you may be thinking of the Trash situation, where Tokyopop got approval from HG and BW quashed it due to minor licensing issues (such as BW had the license, HG didn't.)

    340983[/snapback]

    Nope.

Mid last year the CEO and guy in charge of licensing for Madman (the top anime releasing company in Australia) let slip at a convention that ADV had approached Big West about licensing Zero. BW told they they'd have to negotiate with Harmony Gold. ADV did so, agreeing to give HG a percentage. When they went back to BW with that, BW pulled the plug.

He must have gotten in trouble for revealing something he wasn't supposed to because it was followed by some furious backpedalling, with Madman's messageboards being purged of any mention of his comments and a Madman rep requesting (unsuccessfully) that it be similiary censored from Animeondvd's forums as well.

  7. Sountrack licensing issue is only going to last so long, the music isn't getting any newer, the demand for it isn't getting any higher, Victor will knock down that price eventually, and hell, for all we know, they already have.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Japanese licensors aren't exactly known for being rational.

That and you're forgetting 7 doesn't have one soundtrack licensing issue, it has multiple issues since the show utilises tracks from other Macross shows.

Except M7 Trash. They didn't block that, because they got royalties.

Big West blocked that, becaues they don't like the idea of someone with no rights to their work getting paid for it.

    Same with Macross Zero.

  8. Destruction of the Macross.

A pretty horrible demise, both hammering home how credible the new threat was and a nasty shock when it looked like they might have been pulling the "Macross revives and saves the day" thing.

I still appreciate it a lot since it was actually very important story wise... better than the pointless and lame usage of the great ship in Plus, that's for sure.

Theres quite a few other things, but it's honestly been a while since I last watched it so I can't quite remember them all off the top of my head.

  9. IMO, the GBA should be dead now. The GBMicro shouldn't have been made, and they should've focused on the DS their exclusive portable system.

That would have been an *extremely* bad idea. The GBA is still and very viable, and more importantly profitable.

Sega learnt the hard way what happens when you prematurely an older system to focus on it's successor.

  10. Gundam ceased to exist after Char's Counterattack, without Char and Amuro there isnt any point to continue.

But still. Whiny. Protagonsists. Every. Series.

Like I said, a comment obviously from someone who doesn't know what they're talking about - thank you for confirming that.

  11. 10 years after DYRL came out they pimped its name in Macross7

No they didn't, that itself is just fan fabrication/exaggeration.

The entire "DYRL is a movie" nonsense was generated from one throw away line in the first episode of M7 that doesn't even reference DYRL.

DYRL was always meant as movie of the events that occured in M:tv

No, it was not. It was a retelling of the Macross story with changes to it's story to accommodate the shorter run time and an updating of it's art style to showcase that it was a high budget theatrical feature rather than a modestly budgeted tv series - stylistic changes that were adopted for all series made after that point.

It's completely silly to suggest DYRL was made or even retconned into being in continuity given that Kawamori openly is not very interested in maintaining tight continuity.

  12. I watched the first episode dubbed, it was far from impressive. Probably on par with the first shows dub, to be honest.

New characters like Shinn and Dullindal sounded ok, Lunamaria seems miscast though since the first thing that came to mind to describe her English voice after hearing her one line in the episode would be "generic ditz".

The returning characters like Athrun and Cagalli were not good at all, and they haven't learnt any lessons from the first season because the pronunciation of certain things still sounds stilted and awful.
