The kai on the left and regular on the right.

I suspect bandai used the same blue, however the blue on the kai turned out deeper due to the black.
If bandai sprayed on the kai's black and then masked off to spray the blue over it, then the kai's blue would have a slightly deeper tinge.

Another indication is the square panels where the lines are darker on the kai.

I don't even care about the "different" blue discussion until you said the lines are darker due to possibly more layer of paints applied, I think this is actually good to makes the plane looks slightly more realistic.

Hopefully that the actual Kai box is not damaged (if so then you're going to have to file a query to the postage company themselves on how they are handling the packages. I also seen horror stories in regards to the postage handlers on YouTube, and it wasn't too pleasing. You can also send out a message to the place in where you got the Kai).  :o

Luckily it is not damaged at all, it shipped along with my other stuff I have ordered, the Kai box was not sitting on the damage side of the package and enough buffer was put in there. :)

I wonder if there will be another release of 31's labelled ....... movie version?
One thing though i hope in the movie, that the 31A's wouldnt have charger pods!

Soon after all official sales closed for the JKai, movie version will be announced, it always works like that. ;)

We could hope for an anniversary paint-scheme that's low-vis?

Those 35th Anniversary paint scheme is too far from being a low-vis...

I am also a train guy, that scheme also looks too much like a Shinkansen E7 to me :p:

  5. Since the Yamato 1/72, I have every generation of the YF-19 + the Bandai Vf-19 Advance, so I have pretty enough 19s in this scheme, so I am hoping for same real world/low-vis scheme, but I don't remember Bandai ever selling their DX Valk that is not featured in show or game, I think the chance for a Low-Vis version seems low....

  6. Never liked the TV show(and re-watched it to confirm XD), mecha are cool but too flashy for me, didn't bought anything, but now I have 31a and 31J Kai on order,  can't wait!!

May also get a 31C, Mirage is the only character I like in the series.

Waiting patiently for the DX VF-31J/Kai to hit the Tamashii Web shop as a regular item again. :search:

If not, I'll be fine without it as long that Bandai will release the DX VF-31S and VF-31E soon. :db:

It seems like it will become a lucky draw item after the Dec event completed. I didn't own any VF-31 yet, but I hope I can get the VF-31JKai and the VF-31A.

  8. That looks great. So it's still need some modding then. From what I've seen on some early prototype photos from weibo it mentioned that it doesn't need any mods. Care to share which part of the Blaster Rifle that needed modding? Thanks!

IIRC, some minor sanding to the shoulder plug, I didn't modify the connector to the forearm, they are very different in size, and does not align very much, I just leave it unplugged.

  9. From the video, the poseable hand is definitely stored inside the wing. During the transformation at 01:07 on the video you can see the person doing the transformation moving the fingers on the hand after the hand has been deployed from the wing.

Also, where to you get the idea that you have to swap parts to deploy the landing gear? At 00:43, we can see the rear landing gear wheels being rotated what looks like 180 degrees on the strut before the kneecap is closed and the landing gear stowed.

The text on fig.03 seems says part swap for the rear landing gear on the knee joint, may be it is optional, I am not sure... may be some sort of extension?

    EDIT:

Oh, my bad, it actually said part swapping is not required....

  10. I'm pretty sure the poseable hand can store inside the wing. Look closer in the video and the special tamashii page. You can see the pin hinges on the fingers in the video. The trigger finger is way too defined and the rest of the hand is not flat like the old karate chop hands of the version 1 DX 25s. B))

Hope this is the case, thx for the clarification!!

  11. the only thing that worries me is the rear landing gear looks so short and cheap I think simply don't look good

as am I but sheesh it sure looks sh!te..

    31A04.jpg

yuck! makes my skin crawl..

and im sure that slap together example in the photos IS just a pre-production/prototype what ever thing and the final product will be considerably more polished! :D:rolleyes:

It's no use to blame Bandai for the rear landing gear. Kawamori's the one who designed them to fold into the knee caps.

Despite the landing gear design, you still have to swap parts to "deploy" the landing gear on this DX, this is Bandai's job, and it seems the poseable hand can not store inside the wing.

    EDIT:

    False comment.

  12. Lights and sound, too. Pretty cool. The Ideas sets are on a strict budget, which generally precludes sound bricks and such, but it would have been great had they been able to sneak an official sound brick into the new Ecto-1 set.

You'll have to post a vid when you have it all wired up. It'll make an already cool display piece all the more dynamic.

Thx, too bad there is no sounds with this kit, I also found this set does not includes the main flashing light (all other lights on the roof are flashing or color changing tho), I am planning to get some smd leds and wiring it up myself....
