Oh hey, i was the guy who designed the red bioroid and sled for MAAS as well as the Not-Cybertronian Seekers.

I received exactly $0 for my efforts.

Spencer ran off with all the cash and was never heard from again. I heard he legit went to work in the arse end of the world as a lighthouse keeper.

Really sorry to hear that. :(

Doubly sorry because that Bioroid was looking good.

Hmm  i tried to do the 4 payment thing but i didn't see any way to select that option. It only allows me to pay all upfront.

It was a PayPal option. It could be localised or depend on your account setup...

Nice, I'm tempted to get at least one of each.

Do you have to Pay Up Front for this Pre-order?

Yep, pay up front. Even for the oversized Graub.

There is the option of four payment installments using PayPal. I think it was over two week periods.

Alright! Nice to see another Bioroid Terminator! I like that you kind of went with a thinner body style. Almost wasp-like in appearance.

To my eye an important aspect of the armour was that it was bulky, almost like an overcoat, so I tried to keep that feeling while modelling something that could actually be worn by a person. Most areas are modelled faithfully but there was definitely more executive decision making on this than on the Bioroids or the vehicles.

I hope that explains where I was coming from with the sizing decisions I had to make. If it isn't to your taste I completely understand but I still very much appreciate the feedback!

Yep, there were plenty of times I went with artwork in the anime over the lineart.  Ultimately I would prefer something that looks more like a tactical vest and outfit as well.

Do you have any experience having CAD models made into action figures?

Thanks for checking out my work!

I always welcome honest criticism, especially from someone who knows their stuff, in this case Bioroids. I realize that was a bold statement to make but I always try be as faithful to the source material as possible and it would bother me if I made a stupid mistake (especially after shooting my mouth off about how much I care about accuracy :) ). Where do you feel I didn't capture something properly? Is it one thing in particular or something more general? You guys here know this stuff better than anyone. If there's something that can be improved I definitely want to hear it.

It's to do with the proportions - anime vs real world. Southern Cross mecha generally have massive feet, and in the case of the Terminator (the armored foot soldier) it's beyond impractical - almost comical.

    Proportions Proportions Side

Looking at your 3D you have

probably come to the same conclusions. The feet and forearms are impracticably large and the helmet is too small.

This is what I ended up with, although I still consider it a WIP:

    Hi everyone,

I just noticed that some of my artwork has been posted to this forum and that some people might be interested in some Southern Cross Bioroid models/figures.

I'm currently in the middle of turning some of my models into real life products and was wondering if there would be any interest in Bioroids or other vehicles. I'm currently working on the Martian Fighting Machine from Jeff Wayne's version of the War of the Worlds but after that I will be looking for other projects.

Being faithful to the source material is of utmost importance to me. To see what I've done so far please feel free to visit my Deviant Art page and judge the quality for yourself. I would certainly be open to a small production run if there is sufficient interest. If this is something that appeals to you please just let me know either by replying to this post or DM-ing me.

Head over here for the artwork:

This links directly to my Southern Cross folder but the page also has pictures of the prototype model of the Martian Fighting Machine to give you an idea of the quality of models I produce.

    Best wishes,

    Bioscythe

    Interesting stuff.

Interesting also that you say being faithful to the source material is utmost important to you, yet your Bioroid Terminator 3D model looks a lot like the one I have and had to be largely altered so as to look more realistic.

Too late, I already did! ^_^

Southern Cross is the redheaded stepchild of the Robotech franchise.  Macross and Mospeada get all the mecha love, and I'm a sucker for an underdog story.  The mecha fit nicely with my head-canon version of the Robotech version of the Southern Cross story.  And the more people react like you, the more I dig my heels in with my love for them :yahoo:

I didn't intend to be derogatory towards you or Robotech. The winking emoji at the end of my comment essentially means it's not to be taken too seriously.

If you like Southern Cross more than Macross or Mospeada, then more power to you!

One thing I liked was the in-depth transformation sketches of the mecha.  The animation quality of the show itself is suspect at best, so I'm pleasantly surprised that the transformation sequences were that thought out.

Is there much love for the Auroran?

    Like the Biopsycher?

    Is that the foot soldier?

There are seven variants if you include the red officer as one. They were posted here by Seto Kaiba.

    Bam!

Red (SATAN CLAWS) and blue (BIG BOI BLUE) versions shown. Please forgive the few minor details that aren't proper to the blue version (toes, codpiece, placement of the hose) since this baby's just holding with hot glue. Preliminary work has already begun on the sled, so you'll get to see some progress on that next week.

Do you have any interest in doing the other Bioroid variants?

None....they have no set dates at the moment due to the pandemic creating so much chaos in their production schedules.....they said they were having a hard time finding quality manufacturing facilities within their set budgets.....the only thing that had not changed was the planned order of their releases....we will get Max after they release the Dana fig.....I had no plans on getting the Dana fig, but I really want more Macross figs...I may pick up one Dana "for the team"...:db:

Ok, cool, thanks! I thought maybe a preorder had gone up somewhere.

I still have my preorders for Roy in May and Dana in July. Hopefully that hoverbike will come out around then too...

Mr. Color lacquers are plentiful in my area, and they dry quickly (which is great for an impatient guy like me).

You've gotta keep them thinned, though, so that the paint gets applied smoothly and evenly.

Brushes aren't ideal for sharp little details, however, which is why I use stickers whenever I can get away with it... like for those tiny clips on top of the helmet visor.

If you're anything like me, you've got lots of little sticker scraps from other toys to cut up and customize...

    Q-tip.thumb.jpg.c78f654df9442846c686be5ea01eb17e.jpg

Bits this small require more dexterity than my manly fingers can manage, so I use these special modeling Q-tips to apply them.

Thanks a lot for that! :)

I'll have to break out the paints when my renovations finish next month.
