  1. Best example: Pan Am's near-fatal 747 incident at SFO. Long story short, the runway wasn't long enough, and they BARELY got off the ground. So low, the gear and tail clipped the approach lights as it climbed out. Many people severely injured due to the steel beams puncturing the cabin in the rear--people were literally impaled. 3 of 4 hydraulic systems lost, tail and gear physically damaged. 1 inch away from losing all 4 systems (at which point, the plane would have been lost with all aboard). As it was, it was down to 1 of the 4 ailerons, 1 of the 4 elevators, half of the rudder at 1/2 power, low-speed trim control only, 2 spoilers (of 10), LE flaps only, half trailing flaps, half gear via alternate extension, half of main braking, no anti-skid braking, no reverse thrust.

    *Jaw drops*

ERm.. You still call that thing an aircraft?

I guess sometimes miracles do happen..

  2. Definitely not a T-34 -- it doesn't even remotely looks like one.

Possibly an early WWII type if it's Soviet, or as pointed out a Japanese tanks. I lean more towards an early Soviet tank because Japanese tanks in WWII tends to be rather small, unlike the screenshots.

Also, the driver arrangement and hull MG reminds me strongly of a Soviet Tank.

Possibly a T24, or a T37A. Both seems to be a bit small for the tank in question though.

  3. Oooh. This little rustbucket of a game.

You guys believe I actually bought the PC version of this game? It's a horrible horrible "game". The cutscenes are great though.

No, I didn't play the entire game to see all the cutscenes. The programmers left them conveniently as MPEGs in a directory so I didn't even needed to run the software.

  4. if I have a 1/60 valk without FP... will I be able to install the GBP over my old VF-1A Hikaru v1.0? Which 1/60 version is needed? does it only fit on the VF-1J's?

My guess, and this is only a guess, is that the GBP armor's boosters will plug into the same holes as the super armor boosters did. That would mean you would need a FP-ready valk (any of the 1J's, the Strike 1S, 1D, VE-1 or VT-1).

A previous thread on this had a back pic of the GBP, and apparently it does NOT use the FP holes on the backpack.

But this pic here obviously uses the arm slots and possibly the leg holes.. A CF-1A can probably be modified to use the GBP (remember, some leg holes on the CF is too small), but earlier Valks may not be able to use the GBP.

  5. Kurt I know this is a dumb request but could you pose the gouf holding up the gun and giving the finger. ever since I heard of the master grade series I've wanted to see a MS giving the finger.

Actually only the Master Grade Dom can do this. All other Master Grades AFAIK (with the possible exception of the Zeong) have fixed middle fingers.

Master Grades (1/100) tends to be like that. 1/60 Perfect Grade and Glorious Grade may have individually articulated fingers and hence can do that. But it's an old concept and I'm sure some pics are on the web.

  6. So now that we have established that the Legioss can only fly the way a brick is meant to fly (with a rocket attached behind...), the question I would like to ask is what changes do we make in order to enable the Legioss to fly in the traditional way?

If the Legioss isn't a flyer, I guess the Tread is even less so...

  7. i want a SDF1 that can house my 1/48 :p

That's not a major problem if you only have one 1/48... :)

Uhm, folks? Maybe I'm a little strange here, but while I can play with my 1/60 Valkyries and (if Yamato makes them) the Destroids and enemy mecha, what am I going to do with a SDF-1?

Most likely it would end up a glorified clothes rack...

  8. IIRC, Graham mentioned that Yamato intends to make a SDF-1, but it's not a high-priority item. My interpretation is that it's something that Yamato will do once they exhaust other things to turn out for us.

Personally, I want the Destroids more than a SDF-1. Give me a platoon of Tomahawks to go with the GBP, sez I!

  9. It looks nice :) !

It is a very good pic. We see some interesting things here.

    AAA.jpg

[*] We see that, contrary to initial analysis, the hands are attached to the actual arm mounts instead of the arm armour -- there were some thoughts that the arm armour was so large that it would block the old arm mounts.

[*] The arm armour looks like it is hooked on via the back only -- it's like a slipover the entire arm (as it should be) but may have some stability problems there. Possible that the front hole is used too but hard to say for sure.

[*] Debatable whether the gunpod can be used. Looks a bit tight.

[*] Chest armour looks like it would use the cockpit and the tabs on the chest -- interesting idea there.

[*] There seems to be a little torso twist in the picture, so that's good news. Restricted though.

[*] Can't see well here, but the shoulders looked really to be like slipovers. It's kind of too big for a standard Valkyrie.

[*] The crotch armour is interesting. Looks like you would fit the crotch armour over the nosecone first, then attach the legs.

[*] I'm very suspicious of that black line in the middle of the leg armour. It is in the right position to line up with the leg joint on a Valkyrie, which may mean it's actually a joint there on the armour too. Unlikely though.

[*] The leg armour looks to be sitting a bit low overall. Not sure how the leg armour is attached though.

[*] Still no clear idea how the boosters are attached though. Is it me though, or does the boosters look a bit crooked in the left picture?

Overall, it looks good. If the armour comes separately, I would probably pick up 2 sets (and one more CF) for my shotai.

  10. Just to be sure, I flipped my reference book (Hitler's Luftwaffe, Salamander Books, ISBN 0-86101-005-1) and found some discrepancies.

    hs-129b-3.jpg

    Hs-129B-3/Wa "Waffentraeger"

"Waffentraeger", if my lousy pick-up-from-web German is correct, means "Armed Tractor"? Very odd name for an attack aircraft..

    me-210ca-1_zerstorer.jpg

    Me-210CA-1 Zerstorer

This is almost certainly a ME 410 Hornisse, not a ME 210; this can be seen by the weapon (which is 50mm BK 5 on ME 410) and the engine exhaust.

Also, although the ME 210 has a C variant, no mention of a CA variant could be found.

    ju-87g.jpg

    Ju-87G-1 Stuka

The funny thing about the Stuka is that, despite claims of a G-2 or even G-3 subtype, I've never seen documented proof of any subtypes other than the G-1. And the data on the G-1 is sometimes inconsistent -- some G-1 has spats on the gears, some don't. Tamiya's 1/72 G-1 kit doesn't come with spats though.

  11. Possibly a refit Stuka?

Several variants including the infamous Ju87G-2 Stuka existed. The "Tank Buster" Stuka included a 37mm Anti-Tank cannon mated to the undercarriage.

    Good to see you Dies.

Can't be a Stuka. ME110 Zerstorer = Twin Engine bird, and the Ju-87G-1 Stuka has not one but two 37mm cannons.. but only about 6 rounds each.

  12. Just a bit of side comment..

I liked the YF-21 design, especially Fighter and Gerwalk. But every time I pick up the Yamato 1/72 YF-21, I end up not buying it.

I wonder if that's the case in general, especially now that the YFs are now on sale..

  13. I'm probably in the minority here, but I have absolutely no interest in playing online PC FPS games against 64 people I'll probably never meet.

I'd much rather play a console game against 2-3 friends in the comfort of my sitting room on my wide screen TV with lots of beer and pizza involved.

    Graham

Having 2 or 3 friends over to play LAN games is a blast, granted, but if you have more than 2 or 3 friends...?

Most of us don't have facilities to provide for a home LAN capable of hosting 10+ people. I still have fond memories of the days in university where 10+ of us played CounterStrike in our private labs to blow off steam.

Internet gaming allows you to do that with nothing more than an agreement with your friends to play at a certain time. It pushes the need for infrastructure to someone else -- you don't worry about that as your ISP is the provider. Of course, the down side is the lack of real-time ragging of a poor sod you just fragged.. :)

Back to this game. I liked BF1942 for its platoon- to company-level gaming on Single-player. Jack the bot-to-player ratio up, and even with the AI dumbed down you will still sweat (try Omaha as Germans with 400% bots and 10% AI). Very replayable. BF1942 is quite unique in the market for this aspect.

If the Single Player on this game is anything like that, we can have platoon- to company-level Stormtrooper/ Rebel engagement with AT-AT/ AT-ST support. That would be quite interesting.

  14. ok, does anyone know how the GBP Armor connects to the 1/60, ala the 1/55 style or does it connect with the fast pack connections, meaning those of us that want to use it with the original 1/60s are out of luck?

I'm assuming it will connect like the 1/55 where all pieces just snap on and not use the fast pack connections since they are selling it seperately.

Not much time to post, but here's a discussion on it:

    http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...l=yamato&st=160

Page 9 and 11. A back shot of the GBP in the thread shows that it was not attached using the FAST connectors -- but things may have changed.

  15. A friend managed to sneak in some airsoft guns by hiding the disassembled parts with his chunky photography equipment in several big cases!!! :-P

And, for the folks unfamiliar with our country's gun laws, this is a VERY big thing.

Our gun control laws are very strict. Ironically we can get toy guns like Megatron here perhaps because real guns are so rare most civilians would think those were toys..

  16. I was beating the crap out of my friend in Soul Calibur 2 with Nightmare and we started talking about how big his swords are. How big can you make a sword until it becomes un-wieldable?

You said it -- until it becomes unwieldable.

As JSArchlight mentions, first you must be able to carry and use the weapon in combat. If you are a muscular fellow, you might be able to carry extremely heavy weapons into combat. And that's what they do with broadswords and claymores -- in some sense they are just a sharp club, and they do as much damage from the weight as the cutting edge. But heavy normally means delayed reaction times, which isn't the best thing.

The second part is effectiveness. If you build something really big (and presumably long), you have reach but you aren't really good close in, and you telegraph your intentions. Also, weapon length gets to be a pain in cluttered terrain -- a pike in a town is a pain to move around.

Talking about pikes, I personally think they are about as long as effective weaponry are.. and they are a very specialized weapon. Great as a hedgehog defence, but if the opponent can get within the pike's length there's really nothing much the pikeman can do other than bash with the stick, fall back to utilize the pike, or drop the pike and use something else. It's really great against cavalry though.

Personally, I prefer a (short)sword and shield setup myself, possibly with a 6~7ft spear.. that gives a nice balance.

The rule-of-thumb should be that the weapon you use is something that is heavy enough to cause damage, and that it's something you can (a) swing quickly, (b) swing often and © has a decent reach. You're really free to work with whatever you have within these parameters, but step outside and you'll really have to justify the effectiveness of the weapon.

  17. Nice. I thought the original colour scheme was a bit strange but it looks good here.

Yep it is kinda strange, but what did you spect? It is a custom made by Guppy after all... :p

To be honest? I thought the original paint scheme looks bad. But it turns out for the best.

I honestly do miss the chestplate V-stripe though, and the sight of the Skull-and-Crossbones where the Kite normally is placed is really strange.
