  1. Marzan, both of your points hit upon what bugged me about the episode. Also the action with the Valks

was more of the same Fighter Mode Dancing followed by Bogue doing his usual while, again, the other Aerial Knights looking on while Hayate used the same move on Keith he used to take Bogue out. Keith even emulated Bogue's countermove too.

  2. Idols, it's Macross, they'll do fine.

From a civilian Destroid to breakdance fighting in a grunt 171, just what the heck is Hayate?

He is a fresh wind, strong and powerful, blowing into our lives and as for his last name, well he will be an ace pilot, like Max Jenius before him and Max Immelmann before both of them. ^^ If you look at Immelmann's real life accomplishment and his first name's meanings, you can see a lot of that expressed in his character and his moves.

Edit: Mikumo is also named after a WW1 French Fighter Ace and now that I'm looking at the Dress Uniforms of WW1 European Fighter Aces, I can see where it inspired the Kingdom of Wind outfits.

  3. I wondered this as well. If for no other reason than more music. Is Ikenai Borderline the opening theme?

Other people answered already, but yes, it was all added to the end, with the rest receiving cuts.

What part of M+? (I only remember the movie because I've seen it the most, and I don't remember any fancy footwork.)

Kajnrig, I was referring to Isamu flying up the building as Guld was shooting at him. You can see Hayate do the the same thing

  4. Based on all the overt references to Wagner's Ring Cycle apparently worked into Macross Delta, I would expect that more "sufficiently advanced" Protoculture technology is in the offing... as they apparently occupy the role of the gods in the Norse mythical references in Macross 30 and probably Macross Delta as well.

Good looking out, Seto. I never even noticed the references. Much appreciated pointing this out.

  5. Hayate Immelmann's last name is clearly named after Max Immelmann and the Immelmann turn maneuver, but does Hayate have any particular significance? Like there was a famous WWII ace named Hayate or something...?

Hayate can mean Fresh Breeze (Breeze is another form of wind) in Japanese and it was also a WW2 Fighter https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nakajima_Ki-84 which in this form is Gale, another wind reference.

  6. Taking a closer look at the episode, it seems that whomever is behind the Var song is using Fold Quartz to manipulate the personal Fold waves of people much like Ranka used Aimo to alter the reactions of the Vajra. I wonder if the Kingdom of Wind somehow managed to gain access to Galaxy's Data or perhaps one of Galaxies AI's are behind the Kingdom of Wind? It would also explain the similarity between the Drakken's and the VF-27. As well the Aerial Knights use of Ghosts.

  7. Trend to be KAWAII is killing not only Macross but also the whole anime. I consider MW as a democratic forum so please avoid replying: «you better go and rewatch Robotech» in an intolerant fashion. I am just seeking the reason Kawamori decided to gradually change Valkyries for Walkuries..Thank you.

I think it's a passion of his in real life. If I'm not mistaken, he is a huge Idol group supporter, especially of AKb48 what with his focus on the anime series AKB0048.

  8. Wow. I've never really disliked a Macross series until now. I even enjoyed 7, but this is too much. I may re-visit this when the series is complete, but I've seen nothing so far that changes my initial opinion about this addition to the Macross franchise.

Like Star Wars, apparently this is what the fans want, judging from the poll. Unfortunately, for those of us who were with the franchise since the beginning, it is no longer enough to have the valks+music+love triangle and expect us all to accept everything at face value. At its core, Macross has been about the survivors of humanity banding together in the face of impossible odds, and persevering. This installment seems like a shameless cash grab with none of the depth or soul that made the initial series so great. Magical girls, phoned in Valk designs and crappy j-pop does not make a Macross series. Try again, guys. Try harder.

While I agree with you that the original Macross embodied the Japanese spirit of bending in the face of adversity, the rest of the Macross series explored different themes. You mentioned Macross 7. While there were the Protodevelin, it really was about a rock-n-roll band who used music to end war. Nothing like the original. As for Delta, while it embraces the Moe/Idol/Magic Girl anime themes of today it also seems to be a natural evolution of Frontier with plenty of acknowledgements to Macross II. Anyway, I have been a fan since 1986 and I like Delta. But as you say each to his own.

  9. Well as I saw it is more "Arab" than "Muslim" as the surroundings and architecture have a "West Asia" feel compared to other Muslim places.

You're right, Nazareno. Better for me to say It seems to be an Arab settled world. (Most Arabs are muslim, though)....so Al Shahal is Macross Dubai then? Either way it is a great and smart acknowledgment by the Macross D team.
