  1. Does the new release of the 19 still come with the fastpacks?

IIRC, only the 2006 version comes with the FPs. The newest versions' FP come seperately, and includes parts for both the 19 and 21.

  2. Animation wise, I am quite impressed by the new backgrounds as well as the additions to the existing stock footage, especially during the opening. I can imagine, watching it in the cinema and being wow-ed by the scenes of the ships of the Macross Frontier Fleet going past as the camera closes in on the Frontier Fleet's battle Frontier and Island 1.

However, as far as character animation goes, I am a little disappointed. Maybe it was to ensure consistency with the TV serie's character animation quality since the quite abit of stock footage was used from there as well. Of course, that means that the character models maintained the series' quality, which while pretty ok for a TV series, makes this movie look as if it is released direct-to-DVD type of movie. Of course, the good news is that it maintains its consistency mainly throughout the movie, unlike the series, especially episode 8, where the animation quality takes a serious nosedive.

Thus, putting storytelling and pacing aside (which I shall not comment on, not at this time anyway), I feel that although I have enjoyed this movie, this movie will not be the classic that DYRL will be for Macross or what Transformers the Movie (1986) is for Transformers G1 series. Of course, maybe the 2nd moview will improve on this aspect, but it is to become anything near a classic, it will have to depend on solid storytelling to cover what the character animation can't achieve for this movie.

    Just my 2 cents.

  3. Or a very simple method. 2B pencil. Looks pretty good without overdoing it, and best of all, completely reversible.

  4. Yamato will probably make a better toy (like the VF-27), if they have the chance any given time.

Popularity wise, it is a a different matter altogether. Assuming that Yamato instead of bandai was then one who had the rights to make the VF-25s, and had substituted Bandai in releaseing the VF-25s in exactly the same dates that Bandai had released them, etc (I.e all things being equal other than the manufacturer and Yamato's commitment to anime accurateness), I think they would just as popular, if not more so.

However, assuming that yamato secures the rights say, 4 years later, it proobably not. They would have lost the 1st mover advantage and without any supporting media (Toy Advertisements disguised as TV series or movies), it is kind of hard to sustain interest, and even harder to generate new interest.

  5. I guess the country of origin of the the meta-series gives a clue about this phenomenon.

From what I see/ intepret, japan is still pretty much a chauvanistic society, and some professions/ jobs are just not traditionally done by females or under-represented.

Even out of Japan, I guess alot of countries still have varying degress of chauvinism and traditional gender roles to play.

  6. Of the lot, the VF-1S V2 Roy initial releases (Strike and plain jane versions) have to be the most affected ones. It is only around the 1D release (9 months after initial release) that things got better, as far as the shoulder hinges are concerned.
