  1. It was great to see BS Galactica back in some way, but I wish that they had kept some of the things that were in the original series, as mentioned in the other thread going on this.

For one, the original origin of the Cylons was better.

A reworking of John Williams' theme song for the new show would have been awesome. The original theme is one of the coolest sci-fi themes ever.

I thought the new Cylons, their ships, and motherbase strayed too far from the original designs, which I still like better. Same goes for the Galactica.

They did away with the Egyptian theme of the Colonials. I always like the idea that the Colonials were supposed to be linked to the Egyptians. In the new show, you would never think that they are some distant human race with their own culture. They didn't do much to distinguish them as an ancient human race. They sure didn't look much different than we dress today.

The idea to change Starbuck's gender was bad. That's just taboo. You don't do that to a key character. I don't think it worked out like they thought it would.

Man, I hope this disappointment doesn't mean that any chance of future Galactica shows are now in limbo.

  2. I've never had any problems with the flaps on the -1A Hikaru and -1S Roy, but the nosecones alway fall off when I mess with them. Still, it's livable. I don't foresee myself picking up the rereleases for the minor improvements.

It sucks that they couldn't fix these problems in the first place. Didn't they playtest these things a few times? The improvements are so minor, that it's hard to believe that they couldn't fix these issues at the last minute. I guess they didn't think it was a problem that needed fixing until they got customer feedback.

The crooked skull on the -1S I can deal with, too, since I like my 1/48's in Battroid mode anyway.

  3. Hey all,

I have a Sega Nomad that has a very loose volume dial. It's very sensitive, and I lose the sound completely if I barely touch it. Anyway, I need to open it to see if I can fix it, but the screws aren't normal screws. Anyone know what type of tool or screwdriver I need? Also, I live in the South SF Bay Area. If you know where I can find it, that would also be a big help.

  4. You know, the more alternators I see, the less I am impressed. First they came out with a pretty good one in Smoke screen. He looked good

as a car and as a robot. Then Sideswipe came out. Good as a car, but he had a fat ass as a robot. Now they have Hound. The jeep is nice

but the bony girl legs have to go. Seems like these alternators need to hit the gym more and get their proportions fixed. :)

Nope. Sidewipe has the best robot mode which look closer to human proportion then the rest. Smoke Screen should have a girl face given the huge breasts.

Sideswipe being my favorite G1 car, I would have loved to see his robot and car modes unchanged as an Alternator. He already had a cool robot mode and head. Yeah, he's an older sports car, but the Countach is timeless, IMHO.

  5. Alternator Hound is cool, but those feet just suck. In fact, that's the problem with alot of the old G1 robots and even the Alternator Smokescreen. Big blocky feet. I couldn't imagine these guys running very far without tripping. I suppose that's why they transform into cars. I guess that's why I like the RID car robots (except that SUV one). Their legs weren't part of the car body, so they didn't have big bulky feet or legs. Just my 2 centavos.

  6. I am also being told by a local store that the 1J has fast pack armour that will only fit the 1J and not other 1/48s.

    Is this so?

    Thanks!

I don't see why the VF-1J armor wouldn't be compatible with the other 1/48's since I think the attachment points would be the same. The arm armor is slightly different, but I think it still attaches the same way as the current arm armor.

  7. I still prefer the old design, but the new one looks pretty tight, too. Who designed the old one? Is he/she famous or well-known?

The Viper, Cylon Raider, and that earth fighter from Buck Rogers have to be the coolest space fighters in American sci-fi shows yet, IMHO. The first Star Wars trilogy had some cool ships (i.e. X-Wing and Snowspeeder), too, but I still like the one's I mentioned above better.

  8. (... Max goes AWOL to see if the carpet matches the green curtains).

Roy Focker is Skull 001 (yellow) until he gets squished

Max Jenius is Skull 001 (blue) until he goes off for some close encounters

only then does Hikaru become Skull 001 (red) to give Boldoza some love in the form of an RO-X2A high-powered double-action beam cannon.

    HEH! Good ones, Draykov!

  9. Being a lefty, I was curious if any of the characters fired their gunpods with the left hand? Maybe, it didn't matter and all pilots were trained to fire it with the right hand, or the controls were configured for lefties, but the Battroid still fired the gunpod with its right hand? I'm gonna look out for this when I watch the series and movie this weekend, if I get a chance.

  10. Hi,

don't know if this is under another topic, but has anyone played this game yet? I see that NCS has it already. Can anyone who has it give their opinion on it? Seeing as how this game will most likely never be released in the US, I would like to know if it's worth getting.

    Thanks!

  11. I guess it's probably too late to do anything about those missile bays. Those sculpted missiles just don't cut it. Would have been nice to see separate missiles in there (even if they were glued in), and more detailed bays. You figure if they can't give us a good size for $80, this thing should be detailed to the max.

  12. Depends on which sources you use, as no hard data has been given.

What's generally accepted is that Rook's Cyclone is lighter than the others, because she has no integral forearm weapons or chest-missles. If you go by the RPG, it's because the 38-Lite was the original prototype for the Cyclone line, so it's a little under-armed, but makes up for that by being faster and quicker.

(in the original show, it was because women needed easier controls to pilot their mecha... :p )

HAH!! Are you serious?! Even at their simplest, they were probably still too complex. No offense, ladies!

  13. Sorry to bring this thread back up to the forefront. I guess it looks like the upgrade kits really are dead. Still, I was hoping Yamato would release a set of loose strike cannons and heat shields to upgrade the 1/60 VF-1J's without having to buy a 1/60 Strike VF-1S just for an extra strike cannon. The extra heat shields would be cool for customising.

  14. Thanks for the link! Those Zaku's are cool, but I wish that Bandai would do more Gundam Sentinel stuff. Thanks to the FIX line, I can pick up detailed toys of the Sentinel stuff and not a model kit since my modeling skills are rudimentary at best. I was hoping to see a Hi Nu Gundam in a red and blue paint scheme like the Zetaplus or a kickass Sazabi.

  15. Great pics, Cory! Thanks! Well, with regards to the Cyclones, I'm with Phyrox on this one. I would rather see some very nice and accurate looking Super Poseables with the characters wearing their Cyclone armor. I don't think Toynami could do an MPC Cyclone justice, but I would sure like to be proven wrong.

  16. True enough about those forearm weapons.

However, tire placement in Battloid mode is critical to me.  If the toy doesn't have the tires between the shoulderblades, then it's wrong.

One of my personal pet peeves, mind you, but every transforming toy and model of the Cyclone has gotten those tires wrong.  It'll be interesting to see if Toynami can fix that problem.

I'm not sure I see what you mean about the tires, on the kits and toys they seemed fine to me. though I am not big into the animation. I just like transforming bike toys.

I wonder if he's talking about the tires having treads? Did they or didn't they?
