  1. hahaha...the day we don't bitch about something Shawn will shut the site down

I remember when the first CAD of the YF-21 came out, everyone bitched and moaned about the hood and thin legs, and how they couldn't take Graham word that it will be very sleek...and I mean EVERYONE, and now the YF-21 is considered one of Yamatos best

I agree with a lot of posters here that these initial shots aren't the best, some compromises were made (but not butchered like Bandai's take to Macross), but we all have to remember, the Macross Plus mecha rely heavily on anime magic and I believe Yamato will do a good work

as long as it's not a floppy mess and nothing explodes on me...I'll take it

    Hahahaha!!! Good point!!!

"Ranting, bitching and complaining: official Macrossworlder's sports!!!"

"every single new Yammie or Macross-related stuff is subjected to all those sports by a huge crew of highly skilled people finding flaws where others only drool..."

    ^_^

    God, I love this place!!!

And yes, I will also pick at least one!

  2. I think that this time the Battroid mode was mainly emphasized.

The toes looks like they have articulation. Funny.

I believe that the head looks fine. Any bigger would look dorky.

I think that this design has benefited from the development breakthrough of the YF-19.

    Wonder how the heatshield works.

I'm glad they preserved the awesome knee joint of the YF-19 on this design. There hasn't been much chance to use it.

After looking pictures closer, some thoughts:

    - The transformation process seems to remain (mostly) the same as in the 1/72. Only the arms placement in fighter mode seem to change (90 degrees rotated, so the long elbow part is facing down; this might help covering the back of the head a little more, since it doesen't look like there's that piece which holded the gunpod which also covered the head).

    - This provides justification for the hole on the upper side of the right forearm: placement for the shield's attachment peg.

    - Heatshield: looks like it splits in two: a front part, sliding into the front nosecone (you can siee a little orange behind the cockpit), and an upper part, which seems to slide... damn, I don't know where! Maybe you need to take out the cockpit or something... Have to think a little more about this.

    - Maybe... maybe you have a spring under the cockpit, you press it down, and the upper part of the heatshield gets revealed...

    Good work, Yamato!

Edit: fixed some mistakes, and daltonism (red is not orange).

  3. Wow, looking good.

But, well, this is macrossworld, a funny place to rant against everything which is not 100% anime acurate and zero-dollar cost. ^_^

So, back into the rant thing, even though it's obviously a huge improvement over my soooo-lovely-highly-twinked 1/72 vf-11b, I need to point out:

    - tailfins seem a little small

    - that "isometric" view of the fighter... it looks the new vf-11 suffers from the "yf-19 fat belly syndrome"

    - me wants gimmicks... the boosters? (not FAST packs, nor the VF-11c heavy armor, but the white rockets when isamu chases Guld on the first omega-1 demonstration...)

    - finally: it doesn't matter how much I turn my head when watching these pics, but 90% of the time it's like looking an oversized copy of the old 1/72.

Other than that, damn, it's soooo kewl!!!

    Me wants!!! :-)

  4. Awesome detail: check

Articulation: check (great arm articulation, the legs aren't far behind, I even see the head rotate... if it tilts up and down too I'll be happy camper

    Drinks : check

Pending: As David said, Kawamori's "tweak" to the design

Mmmmm.... I just realized... When compared to G1 Optimus, isn't Grimmy a little short?

I mean, he looks much shorter than MP Op and MP Megs...

    Or not?

  5. Yeah, it was a master cheng (wm-cheng) work. It was nice to follow it, because it was a step-by-step model building and mastering techniques... WM-cheng is incredibly skilled, and I don't know who took some of his photographs and photoshopped a little bit.

I remember some other photo-choppings, all of them very cool.

  6. Hi,

    in my case, I've had 14 yammies. From those, I've sold all 4 1/60 VF-1's, 1 YF-21FP and 1 1/72 vf-19 VFX2.

    Let's recap...

    SDF 1/60's:

    1. vf-1a hikaru's: a little yellowing, a little paint chipping.
    2. vf-1a CF, vf-1a Roy: puuurrrfect. No flaws, cool.
    3. vf-1a Max: hip joints slightly loose.

    1/72's:

    1. VF-11: had to make some "tunning", like G-man proposed on the forums. Some sanding here, some screw-tightening there... The only flaw it ended with is some stress marks on his left hip. Other than that, it's still in shape and supports all the transforming process without problems (yesterday I did...)
    2. YF-21: no problems.
    3. YF-21FP: no problems. Well, yes, it was... purpy... does it count as an issue? :-P
    4. VF-19 VFX2: a little paint chipping on the die cast part of the left leg.

    1/48's:

    1. VF-1S hik, VF-1J hik, both with FP's: Purrrrrrfect!!! no flaws, no problems, tons of transformations, barrell rolls, swooshes around the house...

    1/60's:

    1. VF-0s: the only flaw I found on this was, in fighter mode, the cockpit part of the fuselage is a little loose (there's like a 2-5 degrees of freedom, which you notice when you play "landing on the Asuka II/Illustria": when you land the front landing gear, it kinda "variates its shape" -sorry, I don't know how to explain it better)
    2. SV-51 Nora: once hip's screws were tightened, perfect!
    3. YF-19 (v 1.0) and FP's: had only the misaligned gunpod issue.
    4. YF-21: perfect.

    And that's all folks! ^_^

    Manu

  7. Which version of the YF-19 has all the fixes?

    Hi badboy00z,

the "nice and tight" yf-19, all fixes, is the version 2. You can distinguish from the regular version because:

    - fighter, accessories and FAST packs are all on a single box

    - The box has a background based on 3 wide vertical bars; in the version 2, the central one is GREEN.

    Please take a look:

    Version 1 box:

    Version 2 box:

    Hope this helps.

    regards,

    Manu

  8. Yeah but you shouldn't have to fix broke either.

Sooo true... I also have the annoying tendence of expecting the most for my money, so I won't justify Yamato, which is not perfect (but IS better, keeping in mind the pictures shown).

I call bullsh!t. Check movie starscream from 2007.

    100% agree. Period.

Because articulated hands are not only prone to looseness, but also suffer from either sculpt or scale(sad sh!t that the beloved 1/48 has hands that are the same size as the new 1/60), and hell your beloved Yamato only recently realized that putting a tab to secure the gunpod on the articulated hand would keep the gun from falling out. I think they did this with the 19, and 21 too. Oh and Bandai does know about articulated hands, their MG kits have had them for years, and yes they used the tab for weaponry years back. Are you the same guy that complained when Yamato offered bigger swappable hands with the 1/48 GPS armor or Hikaru's 1J?

Nope, I am not that guy. Actually, I pretty much love the extra "soft and GUNPOD-fall-aware" hands on my 1/48 VF-1J. And I like them because they are VERY DIFFERENT from "standard" hands. Bandai has included 4 sets of very similar hands. It's their way of doing things; it's correct, and has its reasons. But I don't like it.

Yeah the only Macross toys you could afford from Yamato at that price are smaller than the DX VF-25, the 25 is in the same size class as the Macross Plus valks/Zero. OH WAIT. I forgot. Since obviously you are willing to fix broke...add in another $30+ for replacement parts. You can't fix ugly but you can certainly fix broke if you pay up.

Mmmm... not so simple (I wish it was, since I am a very simple lifeform... powered only by a 2-bit cpu...) I just put it this way: even thoguh Yammies are far from perfect, I'm used to "fine tune" them at home to make them better. Examples of this are the "7 steps (and more)" in retooling the original vf-11b, retouching the original vf-1a CF, cutting some sprue rests on 1/48 VF-1J, fixing screws on VF-0S, SV-51 Nora, retooling YF-19 and its FAST packs to correct ver.1 issues...

I won't justify that, please believe me. After all, is a pain in the ass having to work on a toy which costs such an amount of money, assuming risks of even breaking it! But at the end of the day, it is more a toy of yours...

What really IS a fact, is that Bandai could have done it much, much better. That is what bothers me. Yamato pushes 110%, takes risks and innovates, but suffers from QC issues. Bandai doesn't seem to go that far pushing (but they can be far better!!). These toys simply don't deserve the DX title.

  9. As G-man sig states, you can't fix ugly.

Some months after the first announcement, all I can say it's just an "acceptable" valk, for that amount of money. But it isn't just the crotch thing or fugly landing gears... it's... more an overall thing.

Watching carefully the pics Graham posted, the time where most of us complained about YF-19's "fat front fuselage syndrome" seems a joke. Bandai's VF-25 seem to suffer from:

    - fugly crotch

    - fugly fuselage belly

    - transformer-ish looklike

    - fugly landing gears (more the rear ones than the front)

    - fugly (but quite interesting) pose when FP are attached ^_^

    - fugly gerwalk mode

    - 4 sets of hands... (why? I'm pretty sure bandai knows something about ARTICULATED hands...)

So, overall, it just looks like an acceptable, overpriced valk to me. They should have made it better, 'cos they can. I'm not sure if I will even buy a single of them. For 12K yen, there's a lot of yamato stuff out there...

Dissapointing. Macross Frontier has been a wonderful series, and it's a pity we can't get (now) something better.

  10. Unless Yamato hates money, they'll reissue the YF-19 w/Fast Packs in another year or two (or sooner). The YF-19 is still fairly popular and reissues are a cheap & easy way to make money; you can either wait it out or pay a premium the next time one shows up on e-bay or yahoo japan.

Well, I don't know if I can agree... Keep in mind, for example, the Q-Rau. It was released on february 2005, and it will be re-released next year. Yeah, well, the fact some cooool gal called Klan had one on Mac Frontier might have something to due with it...

And the vf-11b FAST packs ver., released on march 2003, didn't have a N>2 (keeping in mind N=1 was the hip-breaking-when-you-look-at-it).

I'm not so sure the YF-19 is going to have its N=4... (assuming N=3 is the 25th anniversary)

    Regards,

    Manu

  11. Hi folks out there,

well, it's been some years now, but this is one of those "I'm afraid to make" questions, just not to let you know my [real] stupidity level in Yamato's knowledge (and it's been 8 years or so around, when macrossworld pages' background was still black!). Guess I just got out of the closet...

Anyway, let's go onto the question: in all these past years, the (veryvery rough) process followed by our (beloved-to-the-bone:rolleyes:) Yamato staff is something like:

    1. get the license for a series (macross, macross plus, macross zero, for example... damn you Bandai! Free Frontier!!) <_<
    2. R+D+tons of work
    3. Prototypes (and photos!! photos!! and drool!! in eugimon's omega pants!!)
    4. First production run
    5. Re-use (and correct, if possible) molds ^_^
    6. Second production run <_<
    7. ...
    8. N production run

This iterations have been a "milk the cow" process, particularly affordable with our 1/48's (N=10 or so!).

Keeping this in mind (yep, I'm getting close yet), what does exactly limit the number of runs, and the quantity of toys produced for each of those runs?

And (the real question, which is killing my brain), why is so damn hard to find a yf-19 ver.2 with FAST packs? Even in eBay!!! Why, Yamato? Why do you do this to me? Why do you [finally] make my supa-dupa-preferred valk and make only two runs? Why couldn't I afford for two? Aaaarghhh!!!

    Crap.

BTW (and off-topic), just got a Nora SV-51 on evil Bay, and thanks to you guys (and mw forums of course) I've fixed the floppiest hips ever found in a Yamato toy!! Happy!!

    ^_^ ^_^

[Yep, this happiness-sadness duality is also killing me. Doctor said schizo-whatsoever... do you think I shoud care?]

Thank you guys, see you around!

  12. They are growing on my more and more. One thing that really bugs me about battroid mode which nobody else seems to have mentoned is the upper arms (bicep area). They just look too thick IMO. I can live with the too high hips, too long ankles, but the upper arms really bug me for some reason.

    Graham

    Mmmm...

Guess it has to due with Bandai and steroids. Look at 1/55's deltoids... Man, that were deltoids!

Anyway, I feel dissapointed Yamato didn't make it to get the license. I would so much like to get a Yammie VF-25...

    Crap.

At the beggining, it was kinda cool to expect something new from Bandai (ala Takara Masterpieces or so), so expectations were set high. Time has passed, and it turned out to have been set TOO high.

    Crap (again).

Right now, all we have is to wait a little bit more, praying Bandai's guys do a better work than we think...

    Fingers crossed, mw'ers! ^_^

  13. (Kronnang Dunn @ Aug 18 2008, 12:10 AM) *

I found a video with Macross mecha cosplay... hope u like it, hehe.

    happy.gif

That's some crazy cosplaying! wacko.gif That guy in the gerwalk valk looked like he was very uncomfortable. sad.gif I thought it was clever to have the guys head popping out of the cockpit as if he is the pilot. Funny looking but clever. tongue.gif

Mmm... after falling from my chair, and recovery for a full <segmentation fault - core dumped> brain problem...

    LOL! ^_^

I don't feel so freak after seeing those guys!

  14. Well, just in case somebody is doing the dirty job instead of me, these are my new numbers:

    1/72: 2 (vf-11b nonFP and yf-21 nonFP)

    1/60: 3 (vf-0s, yf-19 and yf21 -mac+, yeah, baby!! B)) )

1/48: 2 (vf-1s hikaru and vf-1j hikaru, both with their FP!)

    Yep, I know, only 5...

  15. He says that it comes with attachments for the YF-19 as well. Is this true?

If this is true, I haven't been able to get my 19 properly posed on the 21's display stand. Actually the stand comes with two pieces: one for yf-21 in battroid mode, and the other for connecting the 21 fighter mode to the stand.

No more "connectors", at least on my yf-21.

    Regds,

    Manu

  16. Hi all,

just my 2 cents here. Overall, Yamato has impressed me again. The yf-21 looks great in all 3 modes, I very much like the color, and it's got a lot of goodies.

But I fear I have a couple of (maybe minor) complaints:

    - Main wings in fighter mode: they're... floppy. I wish the mecanism wich allows the wings to rotate was a little bit better, or even better, to add locking mechanisms ala SV-51 to properly fix wings in place.

    - Rear landing gear collapsing very easily when playing

    - loose backpack: the metal plate which connects the main body of the battroid to its backpack is (at least in my 21) partially bended, so the backpack ends on my hands often. I don't remember Guld loosing the backpack, so I think it's not a gimmick.

    - guns easily falling (with FP on): all you need is a barrell roll to loose one or both gunpods when you have FAST packs on.

Other than that, the yf-21 is gorgeous, and the QC issues doesn't have anything similar to yf-19's.

Definitely, recommended buy! And if you can get two, don't hesitate!

    Manu B))
