I wonder if those will be actual photo-etched metal detail pieces. Either way, that's an insta-buy for sure. I'm glad Alpha x Omega aren't using the same sculptor as Banpresto/Bandai for their recent releases. That face sculpt is looking much better.

Yeah, I was about to say it actually looks like Sheryl for once.

  2. They were crewed, and outfitted with a full bridge and everything, but clearly were capable of operating autonomously, given that Banshee-IV was devoid of crew when Rei and Tom landed on it. Like most of the rest of the SAF, by the end of the war the humans were probably there just to do what the computers were telling them to do.

What do people think about the next Creator Expert vehicle: the '67 GT Mustang? My understanding is that the page was accidentally posted to Lego's site early, but was then quickly taken down. Some eagle-eyed visitors copied the image and have been making the rounds with it.  Here it is:

    <snip>

Looking at the photo, myself, I'm really into this. The Aston Martin was okay, but had some weaknesses when one looked at it with a critical eye. The Mustang looks about as good as you can get with Lego today. The curves are in the right places highlighting the hood/bonnet and the rear of the car. And unless my eyes are playing tricks, it may even be that they got that side panel detail on the door without resorting to a sticker (or printing) which will be fun to assemble.

The engine air intake is nice and subtle, and helps to bring the front end together. Speaking of the front end, I like how they've modeled the bumper, grille, and lights. I'm very curious to see how the back of the car looks and to see all the gimmicks this Creator Expert car employs. The picture appears to imply that a working steering mechanism is a given, and that we will have working doors (which I would expect given the history of the line).

Anyway, very excited for more news!

As someone who intends to rebuild a 1967 Mustang as soon as I have space to do so, I'm all over this. It looks great.

Eh? I feel that my Valkyrie is being impugned! On my Renewal Grace, the Super Parts attach positively and nothing’s loose. Legs are down a standard click. It’s very nice to look at, BUT the parts don’t do anything. No real detail, no opening anything, no gimmicks. They’re just there.

I like my Brera with supers as well. I used to prefer it without them, but they've grown on me a lot. The leg packs stay on great, the arms fall off if I look at it wrong. I don't want to touch it for fear of dislodging something, but I think it's one click down on the GERWALK joint, but the knee is between clicks.

10g+ is the figure that keeps cropping up in connection with the need for Inertia Store Converter technology.

This sounds about right to me. The Red Bull air race penalizes* the pilots if they exceed 10g during their runs. I always figured this was a safety thing - they didn't want the pilots doing anything that could pose a risk to themselves or the spectators in exchange for time during their runs. I would expect g loads during an actual flight, either in the air race or combat would be over a shorter period of time than a centrifuge.

*Before this year, exceeding 10g for 0.6 second would be instant DNF. For 2018 onwards, it's a 2 second penalty, or a DNF for exceeding 12g at any point, although this depends on the class.

Am not an avid aircraft reader, but from what i see 6th gen aircraft are really flat, with stealthy tech and for some reason like to omit tail rudders.

They omit the rudders because it makes them stealthier.

But kawamori is in that position in the macross universe to plan this, and am sure bandai wouldn't mind to have him keep developing valks to sustain the in demand valk merchandising line.

If 6th generation VFs parallel what we think 6th generation fighters will be like in real life, then we're going to be in for some boring fight choreography. 6th generation looks like it's going to be all about stealth, long range, and electronic warfare. There's a bunch of stuff going on under the skin that will be interesting, like new, more efficient engines and sensor fusion tech.

I'd be interested in seeing VFs based on the 6th generation concepts because I think they'd look interesting, but with active stealth in Macross, there isn't really an in-universe reason to make them that shape.

  7. I thought a lot the humor was awful, and anyone who tries to justify it by citing the humor in the OT really doesn't understand why the humor in the OT actually worked.

Before I give my thoughts on the rest of the movie, let me say that I thought TFA was alright, but not better than that. It's greatest sin was just being ANH again. If I wanted to watch ANH, I'd watch ANH, I don't need two of it.

Some thoughts on various spoilery bits:

    Spoiler

    Stuff I liked:

    • Rey's a nobody.
    • Ben killing Snoke. Separates it from the Sith master/apprentice thing from the previous two trilogies, and it'll be interesting to see what happens next without a behind-the-scenes xanatos-gambit-running mastermind.
    • Little details that, intentionally or not, called back to stuff from the old Expanded Universe, like the hyperspace ramming speed (although I feel like it shouldn't have taken out any ships other than the Supremacy), and Luke's force telepresence.
    • The Mega-class star destroyer, for all the terribleness of its name, had a cool design.

    Dislike:

    • Rey seems to be getting too powerful too quick. She has like a day of training and Luke already feel comfortable leaving the Jedi Order in her hands.
    • Why is it that fighters in this movie always seem to be able to fly right up next to the hull of ships that by all rights should have their shields up?
    • The bridge tower on the Mandator-IV class dreadnought. What were they thinking?

    Other thoughts:

I'm glad it wasn't just ESB again. It took details from ESB and RotJ, but for the most part handled them differently enough for my liking. Something about the whole thing just felt off, though. It just never captured me. Maybe I'm not letting it, since I still miss the old EU, but I never really could get invested in the story. It also definitely tried to do too much.

Overall, I'll rate it an "eeehhh".

  8. Fighter: VF-27 (I prefer it naked, but my DX is displayed with super packs to justify the extra cost of the renewal version)

    Gerwalk: VF-1s Strike

    Battroid: VF-25 naked

There are a few closely matched contenders fighting for second place on those lists, but nothing that threatens those three.

    Supposedly 1/48 scale.

Good, that means I can ignore it and not get buyer's remorse if it looks better than the Arcadia VF-1's I've been getting.

Interested in seeing it anyway. I always like seeing the mechanics of these toys.

That's more or less the same as the real world. Prototypes have working names, project names and such, a notable example is the F-117 which had the project name "Have Blue".

The Have Blue was a different plane than the F-117. The Have Blue was a technology demonstrator that the F-117 was based on. In some ways the Have Blue is to the F-117 what the VF-0 is to the VF-1, but I don't think it's a perfect comparison.

Your overall point still stands though, as the F-117 had the project name "Senior Trend", which is very much not the same as "Night Hawk".

Project Stella was a Macross Galaxy fleet cybernetics experiment to mass produce combat-ready veteran pilots from individuals with no combat experience using a special version of the Valkyrie control implants that confer ace-level skill by taking control of the subject's body part-time.  Maris Stella from Macross R was the proof-of-concept technology demonstrator for the program.

So why not skip the middleman and just use AI-controlled fighters? If the cybernetics are controlling the subject's body, what advantage is there to having the body at all?

How are the improvements? The only improvements I remember was the screw caps and the leg fast pack locking in better. I think there was more though.

The gun pod grip on mine is way tighter than on my VF-1S Roy, although I can only compare a sample size of one pre-fix to one post-fix.

  13. I picked Fedex way back when I preordered it, and didn't complain when I payed for it. Still hasn't shipped though. I also used Fedex for a single DX YF-29B late last year.

  14. That is very cool. I really like the wings down by the knees. It's different from what we've seen in Macross designs, and reminds me a bit of the kataphrakts from Aldnoah.Zero.

That's the fun part when you paid in advance any TWE order with NY. You totally forget about them. And it will just arrive on your doorstep. ^_^

That absolutely would have happened to me if it wasn't for neoexcalibur.
