  1. I just noticed the canopy hinge...........oh dear! :(

They better make that go away on the final version.

IMO Bandai has a lot of catching up to get to where Yamato are today in terms of looks.

IMO Bandai's prototype's have a lot of catching up to get to where Yamato's final products are today, it's quite true

The differences between the model and DX version are intrigueing though, considering both should have been designed off of the same CAD models. Not everything works in real life the way it does in theory, though. Joints need strenghtening and take more space, etc...

All in all, while I think the head looks kinda funny and I hope the knees "break" more than shown in the Gerwalk photo, I think it looks very promising indeed, and the possibility of Strike and Armor packs (the strike at the very least has already been shown in proto form) are even more exciting.

  2. In the link provided here, there are some pictures of a Mospeada ride-armor, I know its a bit off topic, but that version is awesome, looks like a precision design as appose to others for sale right now, anybody know whos makin that one??

    Talking about this one?

    http://ga.sbcr.jp/mfigure/009780/

If so, that's the Beagle one. It'll be plenty pricey too.

  3. lol.. for some reason it came to me..

    ".. i'm belimic."

Hansel - ".... :o you can read minds??" lol don;t knw why, just powers and stuff your talking about and... maybe it's the rum lol

    Drunken posting = win.

My special modeling power is the ability to touch paint before it's fully dried or cured and leave smears or fingerprints, no matter how much I know I shouldn't. Also, futz with things before the glue is dried.

I too, wish Bandai would bring a new Koenig to the market, as I think it's a great looking design (and who doesn't want a Monster of some kind?) but the talk of floppy arms and breaking hips on the yamato version has deterred me from the existing one.

  4. the Japanese with their Kaizen attitude didn't even bothered to borrow such an excuse

It's funny. I was told just this morning by my Japanese boss to put the words "Pre-production sample; final product may vary" on one of our ads because our (Japanese) factory goofed on the color (which was very clearly specced and will now be depicted incorrectly in all of our advertisements) of one of our products. How the world changes.

Still, in the case of our own factory, the problem is being changed at the 11th hour. It's never too late to change things, even days before delivery, so I wont be in a panic about anything until I see the delivered product. It's easier on the blood pressure.

  5. Ah, I see now. You're asking for increased details, like panels, rivets, that aren't necessarily depicted on-screen but could be assumed to be present due to the general design. That's more of a design decision than a failure to meet standards. Some like excessive detailing, some prefer to be as close to "on-screen" as possible. Yes, Bandai seems to be catering to this latter group in this case, but that's again a design decision. How many people would be annoyed if Bandai "made up" a bunch of techno-greeblies to fill space on the models? I'm sure there would be plenty.

And not to be snarky or anything, but I'm hardly a newcomer to models. I've been building models my entire life, and I've worked with everything from aircraft kits to snap kits, balsa frame WWII planes to Harrier Jets, Gundams to Five Star Stories resin kits. While many other companies focus on individual part details and the like, Bandai is consistently ahead of the game when it comes to technology like molded color, design, markless sprue cuts, and the like, which is what I was referring to. Detail is not technology.

Still, I do see what you mean and can understand why you wouldn't be happy with these offerings. We each have our own hopes when it comes to the intellectual properties we follow, and sometimes those just don't mesh with the people making them. Hopefully Hasegawa will get in on the design action with some of their own fixed-mode, high detail models, so that everyone can be happy.

  6. Uh, We did go over this a while ago, it's clearly just them using two of the same arm pieces so they can do a promo pic. The likelihood of the final version being like that are almost nill. This is pretty common with really early promo work of unfinished prototypes, they all have stickers instead of tampo and occasionally they take shortcuts if they don't have all the pieces.

I believe he's pointing out that, were this truly the case, you would be able to see the cutout for the mounting slot on the underside of the left arm. Because you can't it means that both arm pieces AREN'T exactly the same...

  7. I'm astounded that people are judging these already based on the rapid prototypes; considering that rapid prototype models are for general shapes and can't render fine scribed details (and as such, those come later in the design phase). No, they aren't made of wood and honestly Bandai is probably at the forefront of model design and technology. Yes, they'll probably be a great deal more detailed than they are here, and will probably have a mix of ABS (joints/internal hinges) and styrene (exterior/details).

So much unfounded vitriol. I, for one, believe that Bandai can and will produce a product that wont disappoint.

  8. Might want to send them a question about it... my experiences with Twin Moons way back when the VOTOMS toy sale started were extremely nice and fast.

Go figure... within an hour of sending in a query about it, I don't get a reply but a shipping notice.

Hopefully this figure (red shoulder) wont disappoint. I rediscovered my love of plasticy ratchety yamato goodness when I finally fixed my 1/48 VF-1J so I have high hopes.

  9. A sneak peek at Yamato's 1:24 scale Patlabor figure. According to the poster it will be about 33cm or about 13inches tall :o

I really hope that's a funny camera angle or something they shot it from. The head and torso are too big, the legs too skinny and short.

Actually, I really hope that's what it really looks like so I'm not tempted. The CM's is good enough for me.

  10. So... I know this is a huge long shot, but a long long time ago, in a galaxy far far awa.. uh.. anyway, once upon a time, someone had recast BP8 pieces, and I was never able to get one for my own long-broken VF-1J Stealth set.

Is it possible in some way or some fashion to get a replacement BP8, either official or recast, without buying up a parted or broken Valk (or, for that matter, is anyone parting out a broken 1/48, preferably black, that I can pick a BP-8 from?) anymore?

  11. I got the SE, though I haven't watched it yet. There's a bonus disc with documentaries/interviews/etc and a really beautiful steelbook case. Honestly, my (silly) reason for buying it was for the steelbook packaging alone, since it matches the similar case for the other Appleseed CG flick I own. I haven't watched any bonus features yet, however.

I also got screwed, since the SE was supposed to come with a bonus manga at Best Buy. The manager insisted that the book was already in the case, though there was no indication of any such thing. And, of course, when I opened the sucker up, I was SOL. Yay.

    Call this number:

    1-800-553-6937

... and tell them you didn't get the book.

NOBODY got the book, I don't think. Those of us who ordered online (me) got e-mails telling us to call the number and request it. They should be able to hook you up.

  12. SOC Dancouga = bigger.

Uh, no. Nova is going to be 32cm. That's over a foot tall from toe to head. SOC Dan is a "mere" 10.5 inches. If you add in the cannons, yeah, he's taller, but that hardly counts.

However, your other points stand pretty valid, though overall, I think that point #2 is the most important factor in all of this. This is going to cost a metric @#%ton. Considering what else you can get for that kind of scratch, it just doesn't seem worth it.

  13. What? All die-cast? Platinum? Lead? Depleted Uranium? Origami?

But seriously, what IS it made out of?

And,,,, Yes please grab some photos and post here.

Thank you for pimping it in Akihabara.

I think he meant it wasn't at final (plastic) production stage; eg made of resin and painted over.

Then again, if Yamato HAS decided to start doing die-cast again.. well. That'd be rather surprising, to be honest.
