Sure, but I don't have access to it right now. I didn't do a list for every valkyrie, but I think I have about a dozen listings.

I think you'll find the result rather shocking. One of the simplest transformation systems Kawamori has ever designed is the YF-21. I believe the number of articulated mechanisms required to transform was 15. The worst? The VF-9 wins by a mile, coming somewhere over 30 if I remember correctly.

But then, VF-9 is a crap. I sometimes wonder if that thing can even fly or not. :p

Thanks for the trivia, March! Please post the rest when you're free. :)

Actually, the VF-4 Lightning III is fairly simple as a transforming design. In fact, the VF-4 transformation is barely anymore complex than the VF-1 Valkyrie. Don't let the final form fool you. Just because the VF-4 battroid isn't streamlined or compact that doesn't mean the transformation process is complex or cumbersome. While making the color code guides for the valkyries, I also went through and counted what I have come to call the number of articulated mechanisms required to transform and came up with the following:

VF-1 Valkyrie (the number of articulated mechanisms required to transform = 24)

    Backpack (1)

    Vertical Stabilizers (2)

    Legs (6)

    Arms (6)

    Fuselage – Slide (1)

Fuselage – Dorsal hatch for head (1)

    Fuselage – fold over (2)

    Fuselage – heat shield (1)

    Wings (2)

    Head (2)

VF-4 Lightning III (the number of articulated mechanisms required to transform = 26)

    Head (1)

    Nose (4)

    Canards (2)

    Arms (2)

    Legs (6)

    Fuselage (7)

    Wings (2)

    Stabilizers (2)

As for the VF-4 head, you'll notice that most of the head unit itself is positioned ahead of, and below, the visible "cone" that rests upon the dorsal fuselage. The top VF-4 schematic also shows that the "cone" section itself is not nearly as small as it appears on the VF-4 beauty art. Two very important facts to keep in mind.

Hey, March, I wonder if you can give us the numbers for the rest of the VF, for the sake of comparison? At the very least, can you give the the numbers of YF-19 and YF-21? I think they have the most complex form of transformation, aside from SV-51.

  3. If the vf-1 name is valkyrie then why is everybody calling all the vf's from 1 to 25 valkyries?

Or are their names fully designated vf-0 valkyrie phoenix or vf-19 excalibur valkyrie?

Actually, Valkyrie is the pet name for all variable fighters (and then some). From Macross Mecha Manual:

    Valkyrie

The name for the first VF-1 variable fighter and adopted as a generic term to subsequently describe all the following variable fighters

I remember that there were numbers for the VF-1 transformations, I was wondering if there are stated transformation times (ie fighter to gerwalk, fighter to battroid, gerwalk to battroid) for the newer valks?

Unfortunately, no. So far, only VF-1 has such detailed informations. Kinda wish they also released the same data for the rest of the VF.

  4. Me three! I also love the current 'build' the M3 is using now. I think like edwin, I just prefer to use HTML then Wiki. Not to said that wiki is bad per se, but I think HTML serves M3's purposes quite well, so it's the old mantra of 'if it's not broken, don't fix it' line. :)

  5. hobbes221: To reinforce March's point, here's the picture of the left arm flight deck of NMC's Battle Mode. :)

BTW, how Macross really deploy their VF? I remember from DYRL that the fighters are launched via deployment arms from the ARMD's big, red circle I think, but is there other methods Macross launch her VF, seeing that she didn't have any catapult on her?

Pictures would be helpful in my case. :p

PS: I learned a lot from this thread, so kudos to Remko for making such wonderful topic. :)

  6. Here's some pineapple cake. Is that subtle enough? ;)

    *evil grin*

Nonono! You must crave it so he can be fooled. Something like SDF-01 or Klan...

Now thinking about it, I think I should give you a Klan pineapple cake! That will be...

    Perfect

    MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!! :p:D:p

  7. WOOHOO!!! My birthday is close to that of MacrossWorld :D

*makes a subtle hint that his birthday is this Saturday and expects an SDF-1 birthday cake from you all*

Errr... Is that mean I can give my SDF-01 pineapple cake to you? :p

Jokes aside, happy birthday to you, too! :)

  8. sketchley: True.:p So can I use 'variable plane' to imply all those transformable planes in Macross? Much easier for me. :p

But still, that didn't change my point about the whole development chart: unless needed, I don't think we should include all planes (and its variants) we have seen in the series into the chart.

Morpheus: There's two option you can consider:

    1. Make the chart larger to incorporate those planes. That will avoid the problem of overcrowd, although the chart will be much, much bigger than what you (or me) think is desirable.

    2. Make a separate charts, showing the variants of VF, which involves more job from your side. I personally prefer this one. :)

    3. Don't give a damn, stress that you're making development chart, not a gallery of variable vehicles, and continue with your project. Not nice, but it's your freedom to do so. :p:lol::p

Hey, that's 3 options, you cheater!

  9. Got some quick storyline questions for the gurus out here. Hope you can shed some "enlightenment" on me.

    1) The main character in the Playstation game Macross VFX-2 is named Aegis Focker. How is he related to Roy Focker? Is the story in the VFX-2 game canon and related to the macross storyline?

    2) In what movie, OVA or comic does Hikaru and Misa wed and have a child? Just finished watching 2012 flashback and there was nothing in it that showed they were married or something.

    3) Please rate macross 7 as a series from 1 to 10, 10 being GODLIKE and 1 as avoid like the plague.

    Thanks

    1. If I don't remember wrongly, Aegis Focker is supposed to be a clone of Roy Focker, but I'm not sure about this.

    2. It's a information from some kind of publication, but which publication, I have no idea.

    3. Depends on people you asked, it can go from 'It's SUPER AWESOME!!1!!1!!!' 10 to '@#$$%^#@#' 0. My opinion is to give it a try, and remember to take a right attitude to watch that show, namely 'it's a show about a j-pop star that just happen to ride a red VF', then you should have enjoy more the show that is Macross 7. :)

  10. Nicely done, Morpheus! It may looked a bit crowded, but it didn't really affect the chart much.

A question, through: why no picture for VF-X-11? I thought March's M3 has at least 2 pictures of them.

sketchley: IMHO, I think the chart is too crowded to add variants into it without further enlarging the chart. Besides, this is a development chart, not a picture list of VF, so I don't think there's a need to include the variants into the chart. Just my 2 cents. ;)

  11. Just curious, Morpheus, but is there any direct relationship between VF-22 and VF-27? As far as I know, there's no connection between these two, except perhaps the cockpit design and the HMI.

Other than that, good job. :) I like the idea behind it. Keep it up!
