  1. That definitely sounds like a good issue! I can't wait to see it.

I'm really interested in that MAXL, since I've long-theorized exactly that and I plan on doing a profile line art for it, once I get my base VF-11 work done. How did they do the tails on it? Just on the wingtips or did it have four like the VF-0D?

  2. Very nice job, Talos. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Reivaj, I'm glad you like them. I've updated it quite a bit since then, but I want to finish the VF-25 before I post a new copy. I've since added the YF-24, VF-25, and YF-29 to the chart.

  3. Thanks for the translation, sketchley. It was quite an interesting read. The part that stood out to me the most was the resignation of the VF-9 to a supplementary role and the change of the VF-5000 from co-"main fighter" status with the VF-4 to a much lesser one.

The comment about General Galaxy's designs being eccentric made me laugh.

  4. I know, I was specifically referring to the VF-1XX and VF-9E that were mentioned earlier.

It is a race, that's why I alluded to auto racing before the strict Formulas started adding some sanity to them. Fortunately they don't have to worry about carrying armaments in Vanquish either. That would open up a whole different kettle.

  5. Ok, thanks for the clarification Sketchley. Thanks to Talos as well for responding; hope I didn't come across as rude in my reply.

Am I right in thinking that all of the VFs in the Vanquish Race basically have the speed of an AVF and that's why some (like the VF-1XX and VF-9E) are highly unstable?

Nah, you're good. It's sometimes hard to convey things in text.

What I always found interesting about the Power Armor in Macross Plus was that it seems to combine the Male and Female Power Armors into one Hermaphroditic one, though closer to the N-Ger in overall appearance.

As far as the Vanquish racers, sketchley is dead on. Think of them like 1960s pre-Formula race cars. Biggest engines in the smallest, lightest, simplest frames possible, no matter how dangerous. These airframes aren't designed to handle that kind of power at all.

  6. Guess I'm a little late to the party, but I just got the Macross The Ride Visual Book 1 and have thoroughly enjoyed combing through every page! Love the designs of the Nothung and the Oryol (this is my favorite design so far).

Looking through the book made me wonder though, with all the new designs and variations of VFs that have been developed over the years why hasn't the UN Spacy designed any new powered suits for full sized Zentradi? I can understand the reasons (both in-universe and real world) for making new VFs, but wonder why no resources have been devoted to developing new powered suits. Is the Queadluun Rau as good as it gets? Has any in-universe explanation been given?

They did, the Queadluun-Rhea, designed to be more survivable. It seems to be replacing both the Q-Rau and the N-Ger in UN service too, since we see a Zentradi Marine Battalion using them.

  7. It's just that the sub-title of this topic says "VF-19 variants with GU-15 gun pod" but in the line art it has the Kai style gunpod...

All of the GERWALK line art for VF-19s in Macross 7 (including the VF-19F and S) show them with speaker gunpods. Mr. March photoshopped in GU-15s for the line art on his website. He left the VF-19P with a speaker gunpod, since it didn't have a GU-15 in the animation.

  8. After examining the placement of labels and modex numbers in the VF-25 data file, I came up with this basic, low-visibility job:

I'm also making corrections on the earlier works, and have to plan carefully when placing the Armor Pack and FAST Pack options, as these will take time to draw.

OBTW, this is the template PSD that I can allow for everyone to expand on (fonts used: Gotham, Helvetica LT CondensedBlack, AmarilloUSAF, USAAF_Serial_Stencil and USAAF_Stencil) and let their imaginations go wild:

    :)

    Looks great, s.a!

Here's a small update to my VF-9 I've been working off and on for a while. Still a /lot/ of work that needs to be done. The VF-1 seat is a stand-in for now. I'm going to tweak it, probably recline it some, in the final cockpit.
