  1. With both the dialog and the super-obvious The Fly homage, I really expected to see Wasp's "cybertronian" bits stripped out and used to "re-technify" BA.

I laughed out loud at The Fly homage throughout the episode. Totally unexpected, and I loved every second of it! :)

This series is too awesome. Great storytelling. And I'm actually kind of missing Sari now.

  2. I really like this line. I was mad about the size to price ratio, but once I had it in my hands and started to play with it all that melted away. The engineering is fantastic, its complex without being frustrating, and because its smaller than an alternator/binaltech it was easier to handle as well. I really hope they continue this line.

I don't like the legs. I still can't quite figure out how they clearly and solidly connect together. It's a far better mold in bot mode than the BinAlternator Prime/Convoy could ever hope to be, but it didn't quite captivate me either.

  3. My last wave universe legends arrived. I gave in and let an ebay seller gouge me. :( Anyway, at least he shipped it lightning fast. The figures are awesome, and probably the best of the universe legends so far. What I really like about these universe legends figures is how the transformation is just a tiny bit more complicated than you'd expect and articulation really wasn't sacrificed all that much(and is usually far better than what we saw in the Cybertron legends figures). Wheelie is great in both modes. Warpath can do some cool dynamic poses. Cosmos is probably the least impressive of the three, but the deco is SPOT on G1 toon Cosmos. I also got Rodimus but I'm not going to open him. I already have the deluxe version.

On an impulse I also picked up a red Alternity Convoy. I have mixed feelings on the figure. It looks really nice, has lots of detail, and definitely is a figure with some weight to it. The transformation is a real PITA, and I still can't make sense of how the lower legs are supposed to assemble together. And the videos out there aren't kidding, he's pretty small, deluxe sized. I was convinced the box he arrived in wasn't his, but there was enough room inside for his packaged box plus more.

  4. I love the valks, for sure. But even though he was never really made into a transformable toy, I loved the animated design on the G1 skyfire.

Have anyone ever made a toy or model of him?

    Is this thread sacrilege?

The Henkei repaint of the Classics version is the best you can do, imo. Jet mode still looks too much like a hybrid valk, but bot mode is a pretty spot on representation of the G1 toon model.

  5. The prices that sellers want for an Animated Wreck-Gar are deplorable. I wish I could find one in a store already.

I saw the first and only one of those yesterday while hunting for universe legends. I almost picked him up because I knew he was kind of rare. The Toys R Us I was at has now replace the legends pegs with more deluxes. Looks like it's ebay or nothing now. :(

  6. Just picked up Ratchet and Hot Shot. Was debating waiting for the Henkei Hot Shot since it has the 2 guns, then decided not to because it would cost double or more, and I have the Energon Star Saber somewhere around here for him to use instead.

I think I've read that Hot Shot has non-standard fist holes and ironically can *not* hold a Star Saber.

  7. The Black Freighter and Under the hood dvd is out. Watched both Black freighter I never really liked, so the animated one was still meh. Under the hood on the other hand was awesome. Anyone who watched the movie and enjoyed it I'm sure would enjoy it.

Under the Hood was the only reason I was considering picking it up. So is it animated or live action? How long is it?

Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic dvd is pretty damn impressive, btw.

  8. I'm not a fan of it, but sudden and simple Luddite twists and the idea that if we threw away all our tools we'd stop being mean are too common as sci-fi moral lessons for me to be surprised. What really got me was that after several seasons of every change of lifestyle or tactics leading to division, resentment, even outright rebellion, it felt weird to

have all the survivors of the fleet quickly, peacefully, and unanimously decide that moving to a life of chipping stones and dying at thirty was the best and only future for humanity.

Thank you, that's the thought I was leading into. I'm too much of a logical thinker for it to not bother me.

  9. The last line,

"You know it doesn't like being called that."

made it a bit more palatable to me. Something big, something powerful, but not

    Divine.

    .

Which doesn't make it a better explanation for me at all really. I know they've been making a lot of this stuff up on the fly, and they've been pretty good at it too. But when you continually answer a question with a question, eventually you need to give a real answer. I was really hoping they could wrap up all these loose threads in a more satisfying way than

    a deus ex machina

    .

I'm also finding it a little illogical for a human race with FTL technology willing to dump all their science and become farmers. After New Caprica, why would anyone think they're safe? How do they know

the freed toasters won't return to finish the job

What if the planet isn't habitable due to virus/allergy/bacteria? Yeah, it's touchy feel good, but it's not logical.

  10. It's been discussed that there will be a giftset of Devestator that separates into bot-modeless construction vehicles, and the transforming construction vehicle to bot mode non combining Constructicons will be sold separately.

The fan outrage has been pretty massive.

I wonder if it's anything that can be remedied by Fans Project or some fan run company to make parts to make the noncombining Constructicons combine. It's still a major screw-up on the part of Hasbro who should have known better.

And I'm a little worried that the places I check for Legends class figures hasn't restocked *anything* in what seems like ages.

  11. Nice! Then it should only be a few months until they turn up in rural PA, forcing me to cross my fingers and pray that they even do show up here in case retailers decide to just make room for the movie line.

Sad but true. I'm in the same boat. :( Ratchet's one that I need to see in person too, I can't buy that mold blind.

Where the heck is the Wheelie/Cosmos/Warpath legends wave!??! I'm tempted to cave into the ebay gougers.

  12. I don't know so far they have done very well with keeping with the spirit of the original toys. the Seekers seem to be the only ones with some divergence to the original design. Those an Ultra Magnus but Fans Project has already rectified that with their classics upgrade

What Takara needs to do is to re-release the original Constructicons again. Then Fans Project can make us combiner parts that allow for articulation!

Anyone else having difficulty trying to find this last wave of universe legends? I really want Wheelie, Cosmos, and Warpath, but what's really disheartening is that the previous wave pretty much came and went very quickly and was never seen again. I hope I didn't miss this last wave.

I did find a couple of Infernos and almost picked him up because everyone is saying how rare it is to see one. I just couldn't. He just doesn't evoke G1 Inferno to me. :(

  13. I really enjoyed it, and given the source material don't think it could have been done better and still be cohesive in a two and a half hour movie.

    Things that I really enjoyed:

    - The soundtrack ruled. It fits, and it's in the right moments. I loved the ending credits song too!

    - The opening montage stillshots of the original Minute Men. I was really surprised how much they included here, and I loved every second of it. I'm hoping for more in the extended dvd. Anyone catch the DaVinci reference?

    - I couldn't ask for more from the casting. Rorschach, Nite Owl, Manattan and Comedian were perfect. Ozymandius was excellent. Silk Spectre 2 is probably the worst of the lot, but that's because the rest are so perfect. She's definitely good.

    - The sets, outfits, atmosphere really couldn't get any more faithful. Yay Archie!

    - The opening fight between Ozymandius and the Comedian is far better than the book. It had a very clever purpose though. To show *how* these people are heroes and not your average Joe. It really helped set the tone for the abilities of everyone else, and made it easier to believe when the heroes were doing extraordinary things elsewhere in the movie.

    - The dialogue used was surprisingly faithful and direct. I expected a lot of changes here, but what is included is pretty much a direct translation of the book, especially Rorschach. There are some quibbles with some dialogue getting changed around so that other people were speaking it. This was pretty minor, and on thinking about it, necessary given the changes they made elsewhere. The money quotes are there though. "I'm not locked in here with you! You're locked in here with ME!"

    - I liked how they played up Manhattan's god status. I was afraid this would get lost in the translation. Particularly I was worried the "They got the quote wrong. I didn't say the superman exists, and he is American. I said God exists, and He is American." line wouldn't make it at all, but it did, and in a perfectly delivered scene. The Vietnam "Ride of the Valkyries" scene(excellent soundtrack again, and a parody of an existing movie to boot!) really helped drive this home. One of my favorite parts of the book is a between-issue excerpt from an official report by a military analyst about how Manhattan's existence had actually accelerated the world towards nuclear war. I was happy to see that this theme was intregal to the movie.

    - Because of the above, the altered timeline played out extremely well. This was another thing I thought for sure would get lost in translation. America wins Vietnam, Nixon's elected for a third term, and the cold war paranoia escalates. It makes sense in context of the movie.

    Which leads into...

the changed ending. Instead of the squid, it's a Manhattan explosion in cities worldwide made to look like it was done intentionally by Manhattan himself out of spite for being exiled. I liked it...alot, and because of it the film succeeded where I thought for sure it would fail: in translating the book to a cohesive 2hr-ish movie. When you nix the squid, you are also able to nix more of the exotic Veidt conspriring, ie: the kidnapped writers & artists, the cloned psychic brain, and the genetic engineering. And without the writer, there's one less link to have the Black Freighter story in the movie. Having Bubastis in the movie actually makes *less* sense with this change. Part of his purpose in the book was to show the success of Veidt's genetic engineering program which made the squid. I was glad to see Bubastis there, but in the context of the movie, what purpose did he serve? He didn't even frustrate and hold Rorschach at bay, which was one of the best things about Bubastis in the book.

    I did have two nitpicks...

I'm hardly a prude, but the sex scene went on WAY too fracking long to the point that I was rolling my eyes. It seemed like an exercise on how much they thought they could get away with instead of what is good storytelling. The subsequent fire burst lost a bit of its punchline because of it. It reminds me a lot of The Matrix Reloaded and its orgy scene. It pulls you out of the film, and you remember it for all the wrong reasons.

Rorschach's origin with the kidnapped girl played out differently. In the comic he handcuffs the kidnapper to the stove, hands him a cleaver, then sets the place on fire. Here he cleaves the guys head.....repeatedly. I know the point was to drive home how this incident had pushed him over the edge, but the original is actually more sinister and cinematic over going right for the gore to prove his psychosis.

And something I thought was extremely cool...

Rorschach left a blot behind! Appropriate! Was it me reading the blot, or did it resemble his signature?

The movie wasn't perfect, but I believe it's the best we could expect the graphic novel to be filmed. My fear was that they couldn't make it cohesive in the time alloted, but they did. I highly commend them for doing something I previously thought impossible. It doesn't replace the graphic novel, but it does compliment it. I'm really looking forward to the extended dvds.

  14. RiD Prime and that Seeker mold were two of the better(if not best) molds from the Titanium line. I personally think that Seeker mold is the closest we'll ever see to an actual cybertron tetrajet. RiD Prime in those Hotspot colors certainly looks sharp. Out of the three, the WW Prime mold is the worst. The colors are worse than the original, and it's one of the lesser Titanium molds as it had lots of QC issues with looseness, especially with the arms which are friction joints for diecast(an unholy combination).

  15. I'd like to get an Alternity, but I don't want to fork out that much money for something that small, plus it'd have to be red so the odds of me finding one cheap down the line are slim.

HasbroToyShop delivered my Leo Prime today, very fast shipping. Colors are decent. It's definitely a Prime. Lion mode looks ok, if a little obvious how it's going to get to robot mode. Transforming him to robot mode and.....hey....what the? This isn't any more complicated than the Legend Razorclaw figure! I mean, I kind of expected it because it is pretty obvious in lion mode where it's going, but wow, I didn't expect a legend class figure to spoil the transformation that much for a voyager. I just expected another step or two more.

So onto the arm mode aka the "savage claw" mode for Cybertron Prime. The main reason I bought him was as a Prime gimmick for a Prime. It doesn't look like a traditional arm at all, which I knew ahead of time. The arm's pretty gargantuan and monstrous looking, which in a way is kind of cool. The colors don't match up as much as I was expecting. Leo Prime has a dull red whereas Cybertron Prime has a more traditional fire engine red color. It's not bad enough to clash, but I was expecting a better match given the online pics I saw. At least the blues and the grays do match up pretty well. The arm does attach to the shoulder surprisingly well. Silly me initially thought it was going to cover the existing arm somehow. Thankfully there aren't any QC issues.

In summary, it's decent for what I wanted. Without the arm gimmick for an existing Prime, I definitely would have passed. I'm trying to trim my Prime collection down to just trucks/vehicles, so I looked at this more like an accessory than a new figure.

  16. Ok, i am realizing this a bit late, but does this all mean that Cavil already knew beforehand where the Galactica fleet was (since he supposedly sent Boomer to the fleet)? if so,why all the foreplay? and, in the first place, how did he know? (is there another spy aboard the galactica fleet that we don't know about?)

I don't think the fleet has jumped since finding Earth. Ellen, having her memory returned, knew where Earth was. Boomer just went where Ellen told her to go to start. I'm sure the fleet wasn't too hard to find from there with a raptor.

  17. Hera jumping out with Boomer, and the president passing out right at that moment? I suspect the truth of the opera house to be known soon. :)

The five are learning how to project too, eh? It's been a long while since they showed cylons consciously doing this.

I watched the episode twice now, the piano player is without a doubt a pooka.

And I was shouting "frack! frack!! FRACK!!!" at the jump.

  18. They added Mai to the PS2 version of KoF XI among some other previous roster members. 95's always been my favorite because it was my first. There's a KoF: The Orochi Saga out for PS2 now that is a collection of all the SNK KoF games from 94 to 98. I picked it up for $20 new, but you might be able to find it cheaper.
