  1. Great choice for a review, something I wanted to feature on my site but I consider perhaps the hardest title to do. The plot is so profound and subtle. It's defintly not everyone, this is about as niche as it can get. It's slow and deliberate, requires more patience than anything you've watched before. Oshii is like that though, just take a look at Patlabor movie 1 for instance. He's a clever, clever man. An eccentric genius!

You've inspired me to watch it again, defintly going to write my own review soon.

  2. Thanks man, you only just found it? I must not be doing a very good job of advertising it on the web, lol. Although the google rankings are pretty good for the keywords I chose. For instance, typing 'Anime Reviews' on google, the site is on the 2nd page.

I created it 2 years ago because I felt there was a gap on the net for this kind of thing. 2 years later there still isn't anything like it, despite long periods of inactivity from myself.

I have quite alot of stuff in the works so keep checking up on it now and again.

  3. Really overwhelmed by the amount of responces I get now in these threads, originally I used to only get 1 or 2 replies (back in the day), thanks alot guys for your kind words and continuing to enjoy these 80's classics with me.

I have a few more anime posts planned. If I disapear for a while it's never permanent, just been a little busy, feel free to PM if you guys ever need anything or to just see if I'm still around.

  4. It looks like they put a filter over the video the hide the poor source quality, but it ends up looking terrible.

Did you enjoy the show though?

I have Cosmos Pink Shock on VHS, when I have some free time, I plan to transfer it to PC and release my own high quality version on the Anime Classic Reviews tracker.

Anyone who can't download via the animesuki link, follow my signature.

Cosmos Pink Shock (1986 OVA) has been released by a new fansub group called Box. I've been helping them get started up and running. This is their first release and your see in the credits I helped with almost everything.

Life has been busy and so it's been 6 months since I've made a post like this.

Enjoy - discussion and feedback welcome, I'll pass it onto the group.

  6. Wow this thread went off topic.

When I try to justify why I love the animation style from the 80's more than anything else, it always comes down to a huge adoration and preference for the character designs and colour palletes animators used at the time.

I also only love the look of cel animation, i can't tolerate the look of digital ink even remotely. CGI doesn't cut it for me either.

While there's been debate in this thread about TV series, it's the OVA's from the 80's that are the defining reason why I prefer anime from this time period. The majority that came out in 1985 and 1986, for instance, were mostly all ambitious, experimental and boasted new high produciton values that eclipsed almost anything that came before it. Every OVA had a completly different feel to the last. Artwork, music and content had huge diversity between titles, everything had that sort of 'new' feeling.

You can see the shift from highly detailed to a less, more fluid style of animation in the original BGC series. Episodes 1-3 were very detailed but a little choppy in places. Later episodes went for fluidity, this transition started to occur around 19988/89. This is why I love the mid 80's the best and almost all my posts on these forusm reflect this, few are outside the 1984-1987 bracket.

This debate is a blast from the past, me and danth participated in a one on another, less inviting forum, well over a year ago. Things didn't go down well at all. Neiither one of us really posts there anymore. This forum is full of much more friendly, open minded and intelligent people.

Although it stirred up alot of controversy last time these pics were used, here are some comparison shots that heated the debate:

  7. DREAM DIMENSIONAL HUNTER FANDORA - 1985

    Fandora11.jpg

Dream Dimension Hunter Fandora is a 3 part OVA series from 1985. Another project fansubbed by ACR, Japanese with English subtitles. Based on the work of Go Nagai, this is in many ways what Dirty Pair would be like under his influence and direction. Expect the usual dose of violence, fan service and action. This is a great, unique blend of fantasy and science fiction.

Episode 1 (version 3), unzip both parts to get one complete file:

    Fandora 01 - (Version 3) - Part 1 (Direct Download)

    Fandora 01 - (Version 3) - Part 2 (Direct Download)

    Fandora 01 - (Version 3) - Download Torrent

Version 3 (see screenshot on page 2) includes:

+ Higher Video Quality (higher bitrate, file size)

+ Revised Subtitle Timing (fixes a few errors)

+ New Attractive Font (more readable, compliments animation better)

Torrent & more updates coming soon.

  8. Yeah your right Mercurial Morpheus, I should probaly edit that phrase out of the thread but I kinda meant properly fansubbed. ED are just a ripping group which distribute exclusively through their IRC channel. While we are a proper fansubbing group that distributes through torrents with animesuki and scarywater.

Don't worry though, we are still focusing on unsubbed shows, Live Evil has actually contacted us regarding our Dirty Pair TV release and will be taking over the project from now, without help.

  9. Our version uses the Fuzzy Production translations, so yes, a re-work of the scripts.

Exiled Destiny version has poor subtitle timing and spelling mistakes. I'm hoping our version will be the best online, it's defintly an improvement over theirs..

Your welcome, ComicKaze, glad to be of service..

  10. 1626.jpg

Original Dirty Pair TV series from 1985 which started the whole franchise, simply the best version of the show, is finally being fansubbed.

It was the first ever 'girls with guns' show of it's time and still one of the best sci fi shows to date, with a great cyberpunk feel to it at times. Despite speculation, the TV series has never been licensed or released on dvd.

First episode at animesuki in all it's remastered glory:

    Questions, feedback and discussion encouraged.

  11. Great news guys, Episodes 7 and 8 are finished and on their way.

They should be released on animesuki in the next few days. Another suprise is planned too from our group.

The opening post in this thread has been redesigned. All updates and new episodes will be posted.

    All feedback and questions welcome.

  12. I am the creator of both, the website and the fansub group. The website which spawned the group, has been on hiatus for too long now, I plan to revamp it with more reviews soon and maybe a forum with other featurs as well. Glad people are still using. Thanks for showing your appreciation ComicKaze, postive and negative feedback is always welcome.

Only episode 1 of Fandora has been translated, the translator I borrowed from another group has moved back to his original group's projects. I may be able to convince him to do episode 2 in the future but it could be as much as 6 months away. Don't worry we will persue other projects in the mean time.

Good news for Spt Layzner, project is being started back up. Episode 9 is done, just need to go back and redo episodes 7-8, may take several weeks. Hopefully we can batch all the episodes together and release them as Spt Layzner episodes 1-9 on animesuki.

Violence Jack is our own version although we did use Kentai's R2J dvd raw for our release.

  13. Spt Layzner got put on hiatus due to time constraints and technical difficulties. Episode 7 was finished about 7 months ago but a problem with hard drive meant it got deleted. :(

I've tried to pass on Spt Laynzer on to other groups but no one wants it. I'll try to get the project started up again, I did promise the animsuki crowd I would. Probaly be over the summer.

  14. Violence Jack can be considered to be a sequel of Devilman. The world was destroyed in the battle between Devilman and Satan. Satan was saddened after having killed Devilman. He decided that the world should not have ended that way and created the world of before the Apocalypse. He then turned himself into the most vile of creatures (a mute and limbless wretch) and created the Slum King to torment him.

Violence Jack is one of Go Nagai's longest works. The manga is nine volumes with over 900 pages each. There are various appearances by characters from Go Nagai's other works from Cutey Honey to Mazinger Z to Devilman.

Violence Jack is also his most controversial work. His editors pleaded with him to end this manga because they feared the reaction from the PTA, but Go Nagai did not buckle. In a world where the only law is that the strong rule over the weak, it is necessary to have a large amount of violence and cruelty to properly represent that world.

According to this information your right, although how true it is I don't know. There's no reference to this in any of the anime adaptations but then Violence Jack is portrayed as an enigma so we know little about his past.
