  1. Here's some pix of my finished 1/72 Macross Zero models. These are the first models I've done since I was a kid so they aren't nearly as good as most of yours but I had fun making them and that's what counts. My fav of the two is the Mig-29 just because I think I did a better job on it. I used a Revell 1/72 kit for the tomcat cause I wanted swinging wings and recessed panel lines (even though the panel lines are quite heavy) and then added the Hase decals to it. Turned out ok (the tomcat) but I'm actually going to make another one since I'm a perfectionist and I want a few things different on my next model. Anyway, here's the pix.

  2. Can you list exactly what was wrong? It's gotta be pretty bad if it's the worst movie you've ever seen. Maybe you just aren't used to watching oldschool anime whereas I cannot stand anything made after 1999.

Don't bother with 7, I can tell you would hate it.

The reason I didn't like it is I guess I like anime/movies in general that are more realistic. Again, I really wanted to like this movie, but when you have parts of the storyline that include someone that can stop fighting by singing a song....it just seemed extremely cheesy to me. Again, when the Zentraedi were analyzing the captured humans and the dialogue was about hugging, kissing....cheesy (in my viewpoint). Also, they're in the middle of a war where the extermination of humans is in the balance...and Hikaru is off taking joyrides through the galaxy, etc. Doesn't seem like the actions of someone who is in the military.

Other things seemed outta balance. The zentraedi destroy everything on the earth so quickly but yet they can't destroy the Macross which is significantly smaller than earth/size of their own Zen fleet. The Zen seem so formidable at some points, and laughably incompetant at others. There are other "inconsistencies" that bothered me, but these are the main ones.

I know this is a story and not suppossed to be real life, but I thought that they could've done a much better job of making it realistic. Perhaps I would like the series more as I'm sure it's fleshed out more. Honestly though, is the TV series fairly similar to DYRL? If it is, I don't think it's my cup of tea....

Also, how is Macross Plus compared to DYRL/Zero? Does it have a lot of singing/cheesy stuff in it or is it more adult similar to what Zero is like? I'm interested to know as I did enjoy Macross Zero and I would like to watch Plus if it's like Zero.

Interesting to read your comments so far and BTW, it's nice to know there are some of you out there that didn't think DYRL was that great.

  3. First off (just some personal history), I've been a fan of Macross mecha/toys for over 2 years now. I love them to death! Finally, I thought that I should watch some Macross DVD's and get a taste of what the shows are all about.

I started off with Do You Remember Love. Let me say that I was extremely excited to view this after all the good things that I've heard about this movie. I know this is going to probably make some people mad (I'm sorry), but after viewing this movie, I can't believe how badly I disliked it. Overall, I don't think that I've disliked a movie more than this one. There were a few things that I didn't hate, the mecha of course/fighting/anime style but I thought that the storyline was incredibly childish/lame. The singing also annoyed the hell outta me. Again, this is just my opinion and I could be wrong (in fact, I'm sure some of you will think I'm definetely wrong). Is there anyone else out there that agrees with me? I guess I just can't see how some of you could love this movie so much. I realize there were some good lessons that this movie was trying to bring out, but I just don't think that it did a good job of it.

Anyways, I will say though that I enjoyed Macross Zero (1st episode). I thought that the anime was great and the storyline wasn't too bad either. I guess it's kind of weird to find out how much I enjoyed Macross Zero and hated DYRL considering they're in the same universe/overall story.

Anyways, sorry again if I pissed some of you off but I just wanted to get my thoughts out there and find out if anyone else feels the same way. By the way, I am not judging the Macross TV series, just DYRL. You'll have to let me know if the TV series is better than DYRL or different, etc.

Thanks (don't rip on me too bad.....)

  4. Hey, I'm going to start painting my MIG-29 Macross plane soon. It's a camo color scheme and I've never done these before, any suggestions would be greatly appreciatted! I'm going to be using spray cans for this (too cheap for an airbrush). After I apply the base color, what's best for masking off the areas I don't want painted? Thanks!

  5. So here's a list of what's been mentioned so far:

    TV

    Max VF-1A

    Kakikazi VF-1A

    VF-1J (Brown/CF)

    VF-1D (similar to Max's 1J)

    VF-1A angel birds

    VF-1D angel birds

    DYRL

    Kakikazi VF-1A (green)

    Max VF-1S

    Hikaru VF-1S

Are there any other schemes that I'm missing? Any luck on the site that had pix of these? If not, I'll do my best searching for some. Thanks for all the help so far.

  6. Looking for some info on some valk color schemes and I'd like some help from the experts here. Here's the scoop: I have all the Yamato 1/60-1/72 scale color schemes that have been produced. So far I've customized my own VF-1S Hikaru. I enjoyed it and I want to do a bunch more (in 1/60 scale). I haven't seen very episodes from Macross and I was wodering how many different valk color schemes there are (only TV & DYRL) that have been shown on these episodes. My next one is a DYRL Max VF-1S. Other than this, what's out there, can I get a complete list? Pictures too would be great if possible. Sorry, I know that I've seen similar threads out there for this so I hope this request isn't annoying. Thanks.

    Q-rau

Will you guys PLEASE quit all this. I keep looking at this thread to see if there's any new news about the Q-rau, instead it's just a bunch of bickering. Thank you.

  7. Thanks for the info guys! That's what I was looking for, a list of what they've made for figures, thanks Graham. Anyone have any good sites that have information about the front mission 3 figures? I couldn't find any info on HLJ for them but I have found a couple around the net. These look pretty sweet too and I'd like to find a list of what they've made for this line if possible also. Thanks again.

  8. I don't know about you guys, but for $20, I can't complain (course mine wasn't broken). Jees, if Yamato made this thing, it would cost about $200! For the price and the incredible detail on this, I think it's a great toy. Another thing is I've never really looked on McFarlane toys as toys that you'd wanna play with anyway. Their joints are typically in weird places and the figure is really meant for posing. I'm so sick of breaking the bank lately with all these expensive toys/collectibles that it's refreshing to buy something at a good reasonable price.

  9. Does anyone have any pics of a completed Hasegawa F-14 Macross kit? Or perhaps any pics of the decal instruction sheet? Reason I ask is because I bought the Hase model kit and only kept the decals (I then used the decals on another F-14 model). Before I sold the Hase model, I scanned the decal instruction kit. Well, the scan didn't turn out that great (didn't notice this till now of course) so it's really hard for me to see where some of the small decals go/which numbers the decals are, etc. I know it's a long shot. Thanks.

  10. Question....after applying the decals and then while covering with a clear coat...do I need to tape off the canopy section with the clear plastic? Is the clear coat going to damage the canopy's texture/glossiness or anything? Thanks & sorry for a dumb question.
