  1.

This reminds of the opening of SNL last night:

    "Will you kiss me?"

    "What?"

    "Will you kiss me?"

    "Kiss you?"

"Yes, because I like to be kissed WHEN SOMEONE IS DOING SEX TO ME!!!!!"

Indeed - that whole skit was funny as hell.

But as much as I actually enjoy ALL of my Yamato Macross toys they are really pissing me off with these initially super limited items that are either likely to have mass produced versions later down the line, or are practically impossible to get if you don't live in Japan or you live in an area where you have to import their products.

  2. Stone & Parker are a bit hypocritical in my opinion. They love to make fun of Hollywood's extreme left-leaning tendencies and how it contrasts with their own excessive wealth... yet they achieved their fame and fortune pretty the same way.

Didn't mean to get folks all political by bringing up Stan and Kyle's puppet movie...I was just commenting on Taksraven's mention of marionettes as a special effect used on shows/movies like Thunderbirds Are GO.

It would be nice if they find a way of bringing some type of ground-breaking effects into this one (considering how the this is supposed to be high-fantasy,) but from the looks I'm guessing the effects/action will be part 300 and part Hellboy.

  3. So as far as I am concerned this movie was well worth the $11.

Even contemplating going and seeing it again with the couple of friends who couldn't make it tonight.

Beware though: It's LONG and the actor/voice actor they got for Arnold Schwarzenegger was terrible.

It was worth the $ 7.50 matinee ( ) but I might have been pissed if I paid more than that. This was big, dumb, and kinda fun - but all of Roland Emmerich's films just seem like remakes of each other.

I think there was some underlying message in this one about how humanity needs to be more...humane.

That said I may have lost the point in between all of the earth shattering 'splosions and special effects like when

the aircraft carrier washed ashore and wiped out the President and the White House (who just happened to regain consciousness to witness the kick-ass CGI).

  4. Thanks for the scoop -

Personally I'm not that big on Yamato's factory weathering (Weatherin) versions and since 1/60 seems to be the scale of choice these days the Valks are an easy pass.

And yeah, I'd be pissed too if I spent big money on the first ultra-limited, good luck on eBay, go-round of these variants.

  5. Sorry to go a bit off topic.

But does anyone else shop at Anime-Export.com?

IIRC their prices are usually lower than HLJ and Overdrive's.

Does anime-export make you pay up front for preorders? I buy from HLJ 90% of the time because they don't charge me till they have the item in hand.

    Yes and yes.

Anime-Export is fine, I've purchased from their web shop and via eBay.

  6. If you're ever in the South East go to Tate's Comics. They're huge and carry alot of A-typical (not just this month's Diamond offerings) products and lots of import toys. Even some older Chogokin from time to time. In Lauderdale Lakes on University Drive just south of Commercial.

If you do make it to the Ft. Lauderdale area then Tate's is a cool store no doubt - especially if you need a comic fix I or just want to stroll around a nice store with a fairly decent selection of comics, anime, manga and 80's toy items (right now they have a decent selection of boxed Thundercats stuff for sale) then check them out.

But for any import items like Macross, Gundam kits (they have MG, PG), Soul of Chogokin, etc...they are IMO over-priced, especially for their Macross and Robotech items. They actually have a few Yamato 1/48 in stock...for around $ 200 each (if memory serves they have a Fokker 1S, Angel Birds and maybe one or two others).

On the times I make it over to Ft. Myers/Cape Coral area I haven't seen any comic stores...period, let alone any that sell any anime products.

  7. Well...this is probably more detailed than you want, but the '58 Blob was an alien. Came down, ate the town, police couldn't stop it, but the teenagers could. All the stuff in the '88 version about the Blob being a mutated biological weapon, and the military coming in and securing the town...THAT'S from The Crazies.

The original Crazies was great because you couldn't tell who was infected and who wasn't. Anyone who came at you with an ax, though, probably had the virus. The rather subversive part of the story, though, is the army comes in and starts shooting EVERYBODY. So, in response, everybody, infected or not, starts rising up and attacking the army, so...who's infected? Who isn't? We never really find out in a lot of cases, which makes it interesting in that George-Romero-Social-Commentary sort of way.

If they can replicate that in the remake, it'll probably be could. If they can't, it'll be another empty exercise in remakes.

Thx - more detail is good as I've never seen the original version of either.

Most, if not all of Romero's films had some type of social commentary or underlying message (especially the "Dead" films) so I'm not surprised to hear about that aspect of the original. Unfortunately based on the trailer this would seem to be that empty exercise you referenced (unless of course they change the message). Still looking forward to my B movie fix, just not expecting anything other then what the trailer implies.

Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street - Jackie Earle Haley (aka Rorschach) adds some credibility to the film, or at least makes it passable. Well that and Katie Cassidy is is kinda hot.

    -b.

  8. Hmmm...I guess I shouldn't be surprised. The Crazies has already been cannibalized by TONS of other horror movies (most strangely, in the '88 remake of The Blob).

I dunno. I'd like to get outraged OR enthusiastic, about this, but I find I just don't care anymore...remake weariness, I guess.

Ya'know I never saw the original George A. Romero version but I enjoyed the '88 Blob and from the trailer I could really see comparisons with any number of movies and the *insert* evil government, evil alien, mad scientist bio-engineered virus/weapon/plague *insert* plot device that's been done a thousand times over.

I wonder if the Rob Zombie remake of the remake of the Blob (or is it a another remake of the original  ) will be similar to this remake of The Crazies...lol

True this screams B movie with upgraded treatment but IMO with all the stress of real life there's nothing better than a turn-your-brain-off for 90-120 minutes flick with monsters, guns, gore and special effects.

  9. Remake news has been quiet for a while, so here is a new one we can expect to see. A remake of the George Romero classic, starring Australia's own borefest, Radha Mitchell, I give you.....

    The Crazies.....

    Saw the trailer for this yesterday while at the movies...also posted on Apple;

Apple Movie Trailers - The Crazies HD or SD

Didn't look too bad, but then I do have a soft spot for B movies that get an upgraded wide-release treatment.

  10. Just caught this last night. Anyone seen it yet?

I kinda liked it and guessed the ending. I didn't like the "monsters" which turned out pretty un-scary and uninspired. The show wasn't as scary as the trailer made it seemed to be, but what we initially thought to be very similar to Dead Space wasn't that similar after all. I liked the plot as well.

Yeah, I saw it - I enjoyed it too, but that's probably more a by-product of low expectations given the state of most Sci-Fi or Horror films that come out.

Even though I have Dead Space on PS3 I never played more than 5 minutes of it (one of those folks that buys games then they collect dust for a year before they actually play the damn thing) so I didn't have any of the preconceived notions about plot similarities.

I kind of wished for a more concrete answer about

    what really happened to Earth

    but oh well...

  11. Rodimus Prime? Sure why not. I think they left some of the Matrix dust in Sam's tube socks.

In all honesty I really wanted to like the live action franchise but try as I might I can't seem to care about most of the characters, and despite all the kick-ass Decepticon murderin' he did in the ROTF Prime is included in my list of "meh".

I think Bumblebee is the only character, human and TF alike I actually care to see.

So we can get Rodiums Prime again?
  12. Right, but nobody complains about that. Even if they did come out and say "these robots would be considered 'black' on cybertron," I wouldn't care because I know black people that share many of the same mannerisms. If anything, the people who were offended need to talk to the people in their ethnic group that put that behavior out there to be mimicked. Nobody complains when an ACTUAL actor does the same exact thing. As a Mexican-American, I could easily get offended watching The George Lopez show, even though he was in charge of what went on it. I totally understand your pov, but people already have let it slide by more than once & it won't stop this horrible movie from making a bajillion dollars.

Actually, for Part III I would like to see a Mexican-American stereotyped robot voiced by Cheech Marin(of course). I'm beginning to feel discriminated against by not being stereotyped. :p

No worries. Actually, people do ask (no matter what their racial or cultural background) that folks in the spotlight, characters in pop culture or in any position to be role models act in such a manner to not cast a negative light or stereotype...you just don't see or read about it on a board about Macross. B))

Going back to what should be in TF3, Hot Rod - just so he can f'up and get Prime killed again.

    -b.

  13. You should - I still think the movie was on the short side with regards to running time, but it was really well done and one of the better "zombie" (given this was more comedy than horror) movies to come out in recent years.

    And stay limber.

    -b.

  14. That's your own stereotype. White people can and do talk that way too.

    Indeed.

Not trying to get into some sociopolitical debate over a live-action movie based off of an '80's cartoon, but those two characters had some very specific mannerisms and characteristics that lend themselves to be identified as racial, or at the very least cultural (specifically a urban or Rap music culture) stereotypes. And in all fairness Jazz falls into this category from the first film, but his mannerisms weren't, IMHO offensive.

Re: what would be good in a 3rd TF film, it's a given there will be even more loud noises, explosions, and hard to see transformations I just hope they reign Bay and his over zealousness in and allow whoever writes the script/screenplay to have a coherent story from beginning to end.

    -b.

  15. Just got back from a matinee - so did anyone else see this?

I thought it was pretty damn good, just a little

short with a running time of about 80 minutes.

. The characters were great the story fairly interesting and IMHO fairly well acted (especially Woody Harrelson). The movie was even kind enough to include a quick and dirty origin of all the zombies...

  16. Finally got my Armored Ozma. Thus far, I've been content to just stare happily at the straight head-lasers. Looking at the above posted pics of Alto with that Armor on him...I think I'll be putting my armor on Alto. Definitely suits him better. Ozma will stay naked :)

I also get the impression that there are a lot more tampoo markings on Ozma than on the other three SMS valkyrie. Am I mistaken?

    Pete

I thougth that too when I compared my Alto, Ozma and Michael but his markings seem to stand out more because of the color of the valk. I don't have Luca but from what I saw of the those three they were pretty much even, exception being the big ass skull on Ozma's back.

  17. Another day, some more remakes announced:

    Rob Zombie doing "THE BLOB"......

    http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/15020/rob...aking-the-blob-

FOX planning a TV Series remake of "Heathers"....

    http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/15011/fox...ke-of-heathers-

    Taksraven

I actually wouldn't mind a remake of The Blob - I have fond childhood memories of the '88 version with Kevin Dillon and Shawnee Smith...it was a good, turn your brain off, stuck in house with nothing else on TV kind of watch (at least for me).

    -b.

  18. How did you explain the on-screen evidence that seems to say otherwise?

See, that's the thing - the on screen evidence doesn't give a definitive enough answer either way.

How long were the Prawns on the ship? Did Christopher's development begin while they were all trapped or after they were freed?

I could just as easily assert that his development as apart of a new hive hierarchy began while they were trapped and as a function of that development he began searching for what was needed at the first opportunity (meaning 20 years ago).

It's easy enough to argue the point either way, in which case you're kinda compelled to go with writer/director NB when he provides the add'l info during the interview.

  19. So has anybody actually acquired the supposedly "fixed" repaints of the YF-19 and can comment on them, or are we going to babble on for pages about bayformers and how a headless VF-22 resembles them?

For such a small community with so little variations\releases of modern toys compared to other franchises, you people surely couldn't discuss less about the newest offerings.

    Yikes.

Some would respectfully (or not respectfully) disagree - take a look around the forum to see the multiple discussions on other new toys. Even ad nauseam...

Re: your specific question, you're probably not seeing much news on the new YF-19 repaints because as most have opted, or at least stated, they would not buy them because they weren't interested in the new paint schemes.
