1. I'd suggest a few possible things for the beauty shots:

    1. Use your workbench cutting board as the backdrop (it is grey and photographs with metallic sheen). Add some painted scrap sheets of styrene with some panels layed on and a few bits of available detail (painted if you like) so that it resembles the side of the ARMD carrier. (Top down shots and even a few angle shots would be possible, at least until the panels disappear).

    2. Using the grey placard sheet you are considering buying and do the same to create the illusion that we are looking at the side of the ARMD (same as above, however with a large enough sheet you could get away with a few hand drawn panel lines for distance detail)

    3. Photograph the arm with the valk attached and signal boom "only" against a black background. Over expose it sufficiently so all the colors show against the black (too many shadows along the edges tend to bleed into the object piece). We can do a lot with raw footage like that in photoshop... :D The best thing is that you can shoot multiple angles, so long as the hanger door isn't showing (we'd already have those beauty shots from the top down shots).

You do have a few shots there that are usable as they are. Generally the ones of the Valk and the arm only. To get the hanger door may take a bit of "creative" background fill...

A few suggestions to consider... B))

  2. Haha Pat!....i was just wondering if they will be using the same voice actors as they did with the old Robotech version. I know that a few members in here arent too happy with the dude that played Rick Hunter, but using Mari as Minmei again is awsome. Does anyone have any info on who is gonna play who in this new dub?`

Nah, luckily all the RT voice actors are working on the new RT show, so I doubt they'd be available to do Macross....

Shucky darn what a shame...

  3. I think I'm about 98% done... just a bit of a oil wash on the newly added optional surface detail pieces and some hydraulic oil leakage on the actuators and some clips to look like they are holding the newly added hoses in place.

What do you guys think about that red wire/hose near the base?  Does it stand out too much?  Does it look too much like a red wire?  I can't decide whether I should paint it out dark grey to match everything.

Then it will be off to a decent photo shoot against a dark background... :p

It looks like it needs to be dirtied down more to tone down the color and make it look as though it's been grease and oil stained.

I've never seen any red cables stay red very long in an industrial enviroment.

The addition of the red hose color is fine, it just may be too bright and distracting.

    A few mild examples:

  4. Sorry this isnt really  against RT or HG jsut the idiotic RT fan that went and defaced my logo. Supid a$$hat doesnt even know what he is doing. He puts HG on an image of the DYRL SDF-1 which has no affiliation with RT.

    ugh friggin moron.

Where did you find this? What forum?

  5. What's to stop them from using...

    Carl Macek was wronged....

    Steve Yun is god...

    Y'know?

    346893

Well considering there's a rumor going around that ADV may buy out HG, I doubt it.

Also remember that Anime Eigo was allowed to release the subbed version as a "license" from HG without interference.

With HG putting all their efforts into Shadow Chronicles and the fact that they are trying to sell it in Japan as a sequel to Mospeada, I suspect they are looking at the Macross dub as a "cash cow" to subsidize their new project.

Thus doing the whole RT is godlike in the disc would effectively kill their sales to Macross fans.

  6. So... what's after the Launch Arm? :D

    345580

    Finnish the Booster B))

    345613

Before that, take several beauty shots of the finished kit with a neutral background... ;)

    It's a sweet looking project... :D

I was hoping for a few new ones of the VF-2SS so I could make some wallpapers from them (check you PM bud...).

  7. Thanks, if only FSM would pay me or if I could make a real living from doing this - BUT also get to keep my creations! :p

    344890

I'd have to check but FSM used to pay for reader submissions (somewhere in the $50.00 range way back when) that they published, especially for step by step articles.

Considering they are one of the few modelling magazines open minded enough to publish SciFi and Anime subjects.

Gallery photos are never paid for.

I missed your step by step on the 1/72 VF-2SS and I'd love to see it, now that I've bought the kit... B))

    BTW here are the Guidelines:

** Seriously dude, your work is on par with all the modellers who I've seen published. You and several others who've posted here... :)

  8. So a funny thing happend on the way to the forum...

I was on my way to a job interview yesterday, and it was only a mile from where I live so I just decided to walk it.  I stopped to use the bathroom at the local half price books and what should I see on the wall but a picture of a Q-rau.  I was like wow thats unusual.  Then I turned around, and the other side was plastered with Macross pictures.  I fell in love with this one and asked them if I could purchase it.  (You should have seen the look on the clerk's face when I asked her if I could purchase one of the pictures from the men's room. )

Anyway they gave it to me for 50 cents it looks like a parody of the work of Alfons Mucha.  Anyway here you go...

(Special thanks to my girlfriend Rachelle for helping with th photoshop work.)

    317079

It reminds of the old "Doodle Art" from the 70's.....yes I'm THAT old....

Though I have the "Original Illustration" Portfolio and had to do a double take when I saw this:

    http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/books/...lustrations.htm

I thought I might have had the picture, but when I looked again I was looking at the wrong back cover...

  9. The key is to remember to seal your paint jobs in with a clear coat before doing the wash...

The last thing you want is stained paint with a wash that can't be wiped off...

  10. Well the idea of the "Holy Grail" is that it's an item that was available once but has either become lost or very rare.

Unreleased toys and prototypes are kind of off topic IMO.

Unless you are well connected, you can't get them and considering prototypes are often only 1 or 2, then that makes it even less likely anyone can get a picture of them, nevermind a copy....

  11. Um...I'd reccomend reading more of the thread before ressurecting it without anything new. A big part of why this thread is 55 pages is because things like this seem to get brought up again and again.

    343010

My bad. Saw the first page and since it only went 5 pgs, mistakenly assumed it was a short thread.

  12. I have a question. Did anybody hear of any rumors about ADV planning to buy HG? Some kid at an anime forum was talking bout ADV trying to get the rights to Macross 7. I told them the reasons why that wouldn't happen (BW, Music rights), and he said flat out, and I quote "You did hear that ADV plans to buy out Harmony Gold next year"

I asked him for a credible link (No fansite bullcrap), and I'll be waiting for his response. But since if there ever were news about it, I would be hearing it here. And I haven't so this is why I am asking you guys.

Did anybody hear anything regarding ADV planning to buy Harmony Gold?

    241853

OMG is sure hope so!!!! :D

I have more confidence in ADV producing quality products than anything coming out of HG...

Case in point the Evangelion series.

  13. However, at the time a show in America needed at least 65 episodes in order to be syndicated and Macross only consisted of 36 episodes. The solution? Very interesting indeed.

Actually at the time it was 70 episodes, which is why Macek had to include that anime abortion known as "Southern Cross"...

I remember it from an interview with the man at the time.. B))

Believe it or don't Macek was/is a huge Macross fan. I like to believe if the laws were different back then having Macross and Mospeada the only components of RT, the show would have been less fantastical and more closely grounded in the Macross universe... Since the stories of both series' complimented each other.

However, HG's desire to make everyone "believe" they have exclusive rights to all Macross properties is erroneous at best and needs to openly challenged in a court of law. Since all it is doing is impeding the importation and distribution of many more Macross properties.

  14. Indeed. HG's official stance as of late, however, is that they own exclusive rights to the entire franchise, be it toys, animation, line art, or anything else.

Which is a far cry from their original standpoint of not even having the rights to DYRL, or the ability to make derivative works using Macross(look at Robotech 2 and the makeovers all the characters underwent. Poor Britai...)

    326304

A pretty bold statement considering Anchor Bay is the parent company of Manga Ent. and they hold the undisputed rights to both Mac + and Mac 2...

  15. I saw all the series and Ovas of macross, but i`m telling thay i don`t know the history puntual of macross vfx2, and the macross VR3, that name is nombrated in the macross 20 TH video, on the part in that show the mini ova of macross vfx.

    339513

I am not as up to current events as some, but VR3 may possibly be a game that was cancelled or is still being made...

  16. Welcome SaveRobotech. Interesting posts everyone.

As for the holy grails... already got the Gold Book and some production cels from DYRL and the tv series. For myself actual production cels are the holy grail, especially from Flashback. I can get most of the other stuff, i.e. toys, it all depends on how much I want to spend. Cels however are extremely rare and many have been destroyed or locked away imprisoned in private collections for decades... never to see the light or day and/or be shown online. To each their own.... :p

    342167

True enough. Cels could be considered the rarest of the rare.

Since they are limited in quantity and as you say too often collectors don't display them or even digitize them for their own viewing...

  17.   I'm planning to produce myself this project, but first I have to finish the prototype  B))  then I have to do a lot of tests with silicon rubber mold and cast resin. This will take some time,so the kit will be available only in the next year (maybe Jan / Feb 2006)  B))

I still have no idea about how much the kit will cost , how many I have to produce...

    342545

Bud as soon as you finish the prototype start taking orders, I'm sure you'll get more than a few responses. Here and on any anime figure painting message boards... :)
