1. So is it fair to say the video quality is not as good as the FX sets" I would suspect so, considering you are compressing 8 DVDs on to 6...
2. No it isn't... Where did you get that idea? DRYL didn't have the Zentradi immune to "Culture Shock". DRYL didn't have their reverence of the Macross as some legendary ship (it was a Meltrandi ship in DRYL). DRYL didn't have an alien defector that was part of a race that controlled the Zentradi warriors (not to mention a character that "did" the controlling through song). Those are just a few of the major differences between the two shows. Granted, you could tell that Mac II was meant to be longer than what it turned out to be, by how rushed and splintered the story was. My biggest concern about new Macross projects is another Mac 7! Ironically, I really liked the characters (particularly Mylene was too fun), but the premise of "Sound Force" was almost as bad as Robotech's "Magic Battery" IMO. Mac 0 was amazing, but took liberties with already established facts from the series (not enough to ruin anything).
3. - LOL, yeah nice ecchi touch there, but nothing compared to Wendy Ryder's pantiless wave to the crowd before getting aboard the Metal Siren at the Moon Festival (I didn't believe it until I actually saw it for myself!) - The attempted rescue of Ishtar by Sylvie and Hibiki inside the Marduk flagship. - The space battle, where the Gloria was lost, was particularly intense. - Several Ishtar "showcase" scenes. - Not so much a favorite scene, more like a nice surprise to notice the nod to the Max and Milia Valkyrie color scheme on the acrobatic Valkyries at the moon festival.
4. Oh how you've hurt me... boohoo... Whatever.... 342207 eh, you have a good sense of humor. Some people would have started bitching and crying, so I guess I am wrong, I figured you were like 12 or something. Some think Agent ONE is mean, but this isn't true at all... Agent ONE is either mean OR totally awesome. 342209 I've been surfing various interest boards for years and there isn't much I haven't seen. Thus I don't let such things get to me very often....

6. Well back on topic! 1. The Macross Gold Book is definitely an endangered species 2. Macross II techinical guides and series books 3. Macross Portfolio (I have one, but haven't seen one for sale in years!) I have a few non-macross related items, but they are off topic so I won't mention them here.
7. No, SAG actors get the union "scale" rate. It isn't like a contracted amount like "stars" (TV/Movie) get which is substantially more and is often re-negotiated after the show is a hit. It's a niche type of acting really. Stage actors need to be seen on stage, film and TV actors generally want to be seen as well (it drives up the 'ole paycheck the more successful movies/shows you are seen in.), while voice actors aren't seen at all. Few have distinctive enough voices that they can be recognized like Allison Keith of ADV. Thus in North America it has become a "job" like soap opera work. Nothing that will make you rich, but a steady paycheck as an actor. Unlike Japan where their voice actors have the same fanbases as live action stars.
8. The Macross II Destroids in either 1/100 or 1/72 scale. Those are very cool looking, and probably the most ignored Macross Mecha ever to be filmed. 342019 Hey, look around... Does anyone around here have an image in their sig? This site isn't some 10 year old 'cry and whine' Transformers board. Take the image out. 342020 Um yes there are a few and if an admin asks me to, I will... Thanks for you time...

10. Yes, Macek's contribution to bastardizing anime! The stupidest things about Robotech story are the Southern Cross chapter and how the Protoculture idea was violated. The story can be relatively viable without the Southern Cross series and the stupid Magic-Battery. The Mospeada series worked since it was in a similar vein of the story of a Space Navy that Macross initiated. They could still use the Macross "Protoculture" idea, just make the SDF 1 a container of ancient tech secrets from an uber race that the humans have yet to fully unlock... Anyway. I agree the Magic Battery is one of my hugest pet peaves with the Robotech story...
11. Mac II definitely needs to be re-made! To shoe horn it into the "official timeline" would be very easy considering it takes place 35 years after Macross 7, which is part of the "official timeline" (for reasons that escape me... ) Anyway, the core of the story is sound, it is the execution of it that seemed rushed and splintered. The Metal Siren scene already mentioned, the supposed "relationship" between Nexx and Sylvie (??), the sudden relationship between Sylie and Hibiki, etc... All these things would need to be better layed out and let's face it Studio Nue is very good at character development, so their input into the project was obviously absent. To re-do the series would require the same break neck CG action we saw in "Macross 0". They will need to reference not only Minmay, but Sharon Apple as well as Fire Bomber when attempting to repell the initial Marduk attack. The would need to reference the Macross Emigration Fleets, possibly even debating whether to recall the last one to leave, in order to assist with the defence of the Earth. Hell if they really wanted to be cute they could make Sylvie, Mylene's daughter. It was hinted that she was of the Jenus bloodline when she remarked that she had Meltran blood in her from her grandmother. They could also add to the legend of the Macross by having the "Ship of the Alus" being an ancient library of the knowledge of the Protoculture race. The legend has given the ship supernatural power over the centuries with the Marduk people. I don't really see a need to bring the older VF series fighters in since they may not be in service in the Earth system and the VF-2 has it's origins from the VF 3000 design anyway. Some of the ships could be redone, the Macross Cannon ships could be re-designed and maybe even the Gloria (should have been called the "Glory" IMO) could be made a bit bigger and nastier considering it was the Earth Fleet's flagship.
12. Excellent!! I do love your site dude!!
13. WOW!! I've always had great admiration for figure painters, but this project is stunning!!! BTW that Minmay figure is HOT!!! Nice work!
14. I find it ironic that there is more buzz about the Macross Dub, than about the new Robotech series!! I have high hopes for the new RT series, it will finally be an original story instead of a rewrite of existing anime. However, considering how much of a niche, voice acting is in North America, finding quality voice actors who are commited to the work as opposed to ones who are "just waiting for their big break in hellywood", is pretty tough. Voice actors are treated with much more reverence in Japan compared to North America, therefore more actors are inclined to be proud to be voice actors in Japan. Not like here. I have high hopes for the dub, since ADV has a reputation of going back to the "source studios" to make sure it's translations are acurate to the story as opposed to some of the drek we've all had to endure over the years. I first discovered Macross through Robotech (however I was an anime fan long before that, I was just too young to know how to get the japanese stuff). I didn't fully appreciate Macross until I got a copy of DYRL from a fan clubs sub on VHS and I was hooked! Ironically I hadn't seen the whole series until recently when I bought the Animeigo remastered DVD set and well I don't need to tell you guys how good the show is... Yes I was around when the only way to get anime was through fan club networks and Japanese contacts--very old school! No DVDs, no web downloads, no commercial releases of any unbastardized anime to be found anywhere except in certain circles. Back when "US Manga Corps" was a group of US soldiers stationed out of a base in Florida with friends stationed in Japan getting them the "goods" and then the group fan subing the material for trading within the community. It is one of the very few companies to survive from the infancy era of anime in North America. I still own one of the first printings of "Macross Perfect Memory" as well as the "Macross Portfolio" from those days. So seeing a faithful dub of Macross after all these years and to see HG finally wake up and realize that there is more money to be made giving anime fans what they want than what they don't want, is very gratifying. I suspect, there are deals in the works with the Anime Network to air the Macross dub as well as DVD sales, etc... ADV and HG are going to make a fair bit of cash off this one, to be sure...
15. No doubt it didn't help that Studio Nue disavowed any association to it and I'm sure that had an impact with the Japanese fans back then.
