  1. These sparked my curiosity on other Macross 1/144 offerings hopefully Tomytec follows up with Strike/Super pack equipped VFs.

I have 2 Chara-Works models coming in the mail. And more to come as I scout them out on the webz.. They look really good with some panel wash.

  2. Glad to see I'm not the only one praying for that. :) It would be glorious.

    A 1/144 beautifully detailed armored VF-25S.... *faint*

I assume this is TomyTec's first incursion into Macross first with the VF-1 kits and now these? I can't help but think this is going to be a smashing success for them which would open the door to future releases from the Macross franchise. *fingers crossed*

  3. Looks AWESOME..Great work,. Maybe some outside shots in natural light would show it off better.

Is it this kit? If so I'm about to pull the trigger on this one but the thing is its gotten mixed to bad reviews specially on the super parts as they seem to just dangle and droop about when placed on the kit. Did you have to do any mods to it? I dont particularly care THAT much as to the fragility of the kit as I dont intend to have it transform all the time nor play with it. I know its a kit and not a toy, but when parts dont attach right from the beginning, that's a bit concerning.

  4. I built 2 fighters and 1 Batteloid today. The printing is amazing, the pieces fit very well together, about 90% of these kits snap together very tight, glue is not required but I glued most of the pieces together (except for parts that you swap to make Gerwalk mode). I ordered 3 VF-1A fighters, 1 VF-1J fighter, 1 VF-1S fighter, 2 VF-1A Batteloids and 1 VF-1J Batteloid.

I model N scale Japanese trains (1/150 scale) and didn't want to do Godzilla like most other Japanese train modelers....what says Japanese train layout more then Mecha all over it ;) If I had more money I would have picked up more VF-1A fighters for an airfield scene on the layout but I am lucky the wife didn't shoot me for the 7 Valkyrie I ordered.

Haha wow amazing. Do post pics when you have your "fleet" put together!

  5. Preordered the Super kit. I really enjoyed putting the first one together, I want to do another. I'm also enough of a fan of the design to have each version, rather than go to the trouble of equipping the naked fighter.

When the DX releases, I'll be happy with just one + Super parts to play with.

HLJ has one or two of the Frontier kits available, but with all that's been said about how much better these kits are so far, I'm not gonna bother.

Thinking the same, and did the same for the super part equipped one :). I decided to bite the bullet and get the VF-25S Ozma Lee Armored Version since it was available again at a reasonable price (everywhere else it was 100$+) even if the build/structure of that one isn't as great as the VF-31, the design is different enough and I actually prefer it to the VF-31 slightly, so I've weighed that to be enough to overcome any hardships.*fingers crossed*

Thanks guys!! :) This was actually the first time i Paint one of these pilot figures. On gundams i dont usually paint them because you can really see them but on the 31J i felt i had to so i could display it in fighter mode.

Great painting, you have talent, I'll certainly try to do the same once I get mine.

  6. Not to mention Bandai decals tend to be more brittle and break easily. They don't work very well with decal softener either, from my experience, though I'm hardly a pro with the stuff. I'm using Mr Mark Softer.

If you're unable to find a seller, you can always special order the decal sheet from HLJ. Hasegawa won't sell decal sheets separately, but Bandai will, unless their policy has changed in recent years.

Is there a special section in HLJ where one can order the decal sheet or it should show up as an item you can order if you search? I'm looking and haven't seen anything like that so far. Not just VF-31 but previous versions as well don't seem to find them.

  7. Ok I get what you mean. The landing gears seem like horrible afterthoughts, period both visually speaking and with what you mention from a design feasibility point of view. It doesn't bother me that much since I dont really look to display them with landing gears deployed even if they were decent looking, prefer the flying look or in gerwalk.

That's not to say that it continues to be a big oversight towards the quality of the kit and a legitimate concern and eyesore for those who do look forward to displaying them with the gears deployed.

  8. Whether the designs are even viable or not as seen in the show, it looks like no one with any actual comprehension of how aircraft work designed the kits... oh right, it's Bandai. :p I'm starting to think Kawamori phoned this one in though, and let Bandai's mecha-monkeys work out the details. I don't think anyone with any sort of engineering degree could ever come up with that design, and be able to keep a straight face.

You mean like aerodynamically it wouldn't work? or you refer to something else?

  9. Pre-ordered the 2 pack set for gerwalk and battroid. Crossing fingers for this to meet my expectations, the pictures look amazing.

Also, hopefully they come out with the Super/Strike packs? Realistically these are gonna be a smash hit for them right? Surely armored versions would be the next logical step.
