  1. I hated Armageddon.

Hmmm. Are you from Philly? They're aprking cars in a lot near my apartment.
Nah, I just read alot of stuff online :D

It turns out they're actually filming the Paris scene at City Hall, standing in for Ecole Militarie in Paris. Sam's parents are in this scene, along with Bumblebee, a green Chevy Beat and an orange Chevy Trax concept. Maybe they're the rumoured 'twins'? They look almost the same, yet different.

  2. I think I'll just buy the Universe versions of those pictured Henkei toys. They barely look any different.

When I say the "look", I mean the body proportions not the dark look of the series. Of course that dark, moody imagery is part of what made it look great. Just that if they had used x-men style realistic figures with the dark approach (set at nighttime when batman fights crime) I would have liked it even more than the exaggerated body proportions of big square jaw, wide chest, skinny lowerbody.

You know it's a bit like how people whine in the macross toy forum about the toynami 1/100 vf-1 toys having the oversized shoulders. I'm pretty sure one of the earliest comments about the TFA toon before it actually started and people only had a picture of the characters to go by was that: "geez...why do they have to make them look all deformed like that?" That's not to say that having them be expressive is bad or anything, just that NOT having them be stylised like that isn't going to suddenly make Transformers animated suck in any way. (because other cartoons like 90s spiderman or x-men didn't suffer in any way without being that way, right?)

But the big head of spiderman in spectacular spiderman, and the square jaws of characters in TFA is distracting to me. It just is. Not that there is anything wrong with it....

I believe the point of Animated was to do something unique and new for Transformers, and to make it stand out from the crowd of six or seven other relatively similar looking cartoons with similar looking robot designs. One advantage of this stylised art style is it allows for pretty dynamic animation, especially compared the the past three japanese series where the only visual 'excitement' came from stock footage :p
  3. I'm pretty sure robot falling in love with a car that it thinks is another robot (of the opposite sex) has been done in other shows.

Beer? I'm just a little kid what are you talking about? It was oil.. :D

It's entirely possible to be g1 fan friendly and fun for little kids to watch. Think 90s Batman cartoon: not 'aimed at kids' but appeals to everybody including kids. But strangely the look of them IS kiddy (exaggerated body shapes) instead of normal. (ie old x-men toon) It's hard to tell.

This and the new spiderman cartoon are the two best cartoons I've been watching so far. It's cutting into my anime watching time. :D

I wouldn't call the 90s Batman cartoon as not being aimed at kids, but more being written to allow people of all ages to enjoy it. The sequel series Batman Beyond was similarly quite mature in its own way, but was created solely to sell toys, according to the showrunners. If you're still talking about Batman, the style isn't kiddy, its stylised. I believe the term they came up for the look of the series was 'Dark Deco'.

Ironically back in the early 90s Batman caught flak for being 'anime looking' despite the style being created by Americans (and never mind anime and manga being heavily inspired by American animation).

  4. Holy crap... Hasbro really does need to start cracking down already... look at all those SDCC Nemesis Primes... that's a con exclusive he's got 50 of stolen there...
There's also a couple of Crystal Convoys up the back, too. All of the toys out now using the Classics 2006 molds (Botcon 2008, SDCC, Henkei) are being manufacturered by TakaraTomy, who traditionally seem to have much tougher security (or just less intense interest) in their leased factories, judging by the fact that, until 2006 or so, we didn't see test shots of their stuff on eBay.

One of the problems is none of the toy companies actually own the chinese factories that produce their toys, and they go to factories based on the costs of doing business with them and their safety record. Transformers has an unusually intense focus for test shot and proto thieves for some reason, even before the TF movie.

.my only complaint is there is no place to store the sword when it is in Dino mode....and it says something about Flame Breath using the sword, but I cant figure out if that means it is supposed to attach to him in Dino Mode or not....not very explicit directions, but awesome figure and poseability.

    Twich

It appears to be a feature they dropped, but forgot to remove from the paper work and packaging.
  5. I was watching the DVD that came with the two-pack (essentially, the first episode, but just the part 1, not the whole thing), and I was pretty shocked to see that, while Prime's toys are fairly accurate, minus a few details, that Megatron's Cybertron alt-mode is way off. The most glaring difference is that, like his Earth mode, he carries his Fusion Cannon underneath and pointed outward. The other differences are small and easy to overlook, but I can't help but wonder why they decided to mold the cockpit to the Fusion Cannon and stick the cannon on top of the toy. Not only is it an inaccurate alt mode, but throws off the look of the cannon in bot mode. From the looks of the cartoon, they'd have been better off having the cockpit as a sort of back pack (like his earth mode), that would pull up and over his head, fold the legs up, have the arms make the tail, and peg the cannon to his butt.

But what do I know, anyway?

I would assume they either worked with earlier concepts, or they just couldn't get that design as a toy, and sort of came up with their own. Or they just made up an alt mode that they thought worked better as a toy given he only appeared in vehicle mode in the cartoon for 20 seconds.

The Animated toys are flying off the shelves over here. I've been trying to find another Prowl and Bumblebee for the kiddies, but the stores that had em are either completely sold out or just have a bunch of Ratchets, Blackarachnias, and a smattering of Lockdowns. And still no voyager Prime :( .

So far the line leaves me with little to complain about. It makes me wonder if the JP releases are going to have enhancements like the figures from Classics 1.0.

This is what happened to the Voyagers:

Those aren't 'samples', but production toys off the line. Of course, western fans should take some blame for providing a lucrative market for this thievery in the first place.

I doubt TakaraTomy will release Animated in Japan. Might be too different to what they're used to over there.

  6. This is off topic, but I doubt there will be a serious rebirth of Alternators in the forseeable future. It was a line created during Hasbro and Takara's joint projects period, where Hasbro provided the capital (money) for development of Transformers, which is probably why there were so many Alternators released early on. Now that they're no longer doing joint projects, I doubt either company will care enough to make new molds. Tomy is pretty stingy with Transformers (nearly all of their TF product since 2006 have been redecos) and Hasbro sunk millions of dollars into Alternators, with little to show.

  7. Considering Bay was 19 when G1 came out in 1984, he probably never even heard of it then, and even if he had, I don't know how he could be interested at that age. So he was right when he said he was into girls when it originally came out, because he would have already been in college. There wasn't as much of an 'adult collector' movement then, and in any case they would have been collecting what they grew up with, not some stupid new cartoon about badly animated robots.

I think saying he loathes Transformers is waaay overstating things. I would say he loathes some of the Transformers fans, which is fair enough, considering some of them wanted to kill him for not adhering to their narrow view of what Transformers *should* be. And really, anybody protesting outside his offices deserves to be mocked and derided.

  8. I want a Leader class Starscream with a proper fighter mode, goddammit. Is that too much to ask Hasbro? IS IT?!? :(

I assume this is a modified prop Camaro due to the visible cut vents in front of the rear wheel arches that the pre-production cars driving around the US and Australia lack. And the lack of window frames on the doors, which I heard the production model will have to have for safety.

  9. I caught an Animated BumbleBee yesterday, I am really digging the figure, there is something about the cartoonish appearance of the figure that I really like. I probably will be grabbing others as the opportunity present, when I went to check out the store on sunday they had ratchet, blackarachnia, lockdown, cybertron mode optimus, Starscream, cybertron mode Megatron and Bulkhead when I went again on Monday they had Ratchet, Blackareachnia, Lockdown, Bulkhead and the one Bumbleebee which i grabbed. Interesting thing the Autobot insignia in it's chest is misprinted and it is silver instead of the red with white background.
I believe the silver and gold Autobot and Decepticon logos are normal, based on the Movie's decos, I suspect.
  10. Doesn't look like it :(http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/06/06/transf...ealed-days-1-5/ Can someone tell me where the hell the wheels are? I really liked the movie but I'm still not a huge fan of the bot designs and find it impossible for the bots to transform into their vehicle mode without alot of "MAGIC"

    Chris

That's just one of Arcee's concepts from 2005 - hence 11.15.05 on it. It's what the Movie Arcee toy was based upon.
  11. Picked up everything but Bulkhead, I kind of like the two pack, but it's sort of like having another of the classics version....so it's decent but not perfect.

Prime is basically just a retool and slight mold change to the Cybertron with a spring loaded mid section.

I believe the 2 pack deluxe class Earth Prime is one of those 'similar engineering, different toolings' deals, because all of his arts are different.
  12. I suppose we could have a second movie thread... I personally don't want to hear ANYTHING about the upcoming atrocity. All I know is I'm sick of sifting thru casting rumours on TFW... noone at all cares about the friggen TRANSFORMING ROBOTS that are supposed to be in the film at this point.
Besides the fact your statement is inaccurate, in the absence of robot news earlier on, people talked about about the confirmed news of human actors being cast or returning from the last movie because it was the only news available, or it was the latest news.

What in the heck are people supposed to do, totally ignore those news items?

  13. Not bad considering it costs the equivalent of $30US in Japan at retail, and that nobody (besides the two Japanese retailers selling these) can get them for wholesale prices.

That means Retail cost + markup from Japanese middle man + shipping to middle man + shipping to the US + markup from BBTS.
