  1. the movie designs, however "interesting" are just giving a good toy company an excuse to shell out badly designed & engineered toys.

take the jetfire for example, i believe i've seen better China-made transforming robots.

hell, it even gives 'em an excuse to repackage some of those Chinese transforming robots & pass them out under the brand name

Yeah, let's go rag on the $3 (or whatever it costs in the US) Legends class Jetfire toy. A toy made out of very limited parts at the lowest price point for Transformers that kids could conceivably buy with their pocket money would have some difficulty in capturing the complexity of a Movie design (whatever it may be), would it not?
  2. Deluxe Class Bumblebee in the last line was a mess of panels dangling off of a knock off Gundam-internal Frame. Deluxe class Camaro Bumblebee had no hand.

Neither of the two looked anything like the Movie Bumblebee.

Although, of course, both of them were miles better than Supreme Bumblebee, which can only rival Beast Machines Cheetor for the Worst Transformer Toy In History Award (sad that I say this about a star character from the live action movie).

Oh - and "new" Bumblebee voyager with sam also has no hand apparently?

Huh? The Deluxe Camaro Concept Bumblebee had hands. It's the ROTF retool version that has a gun on his right arm instead of a hand, apparently. Not sure about this new one, he has a left hand for sure, but I can't tell if he has a right hand folded away somewhere.

Yamato should be making these toys.
    What, so they break?
  3. Starscream appears to transform like G1 Starscream now - cockpit folds down into the bottom of the fuselage. His legs are now the engines. IDW artist Alex Milne said that Starscream appears in the movie with these glyphs, and that the Alliance comic just showed how he got them.

There's speculation that the new Bumblebee is a Voyager class toy, or roughly Alternators size.

I do like the new Leader Optimus Prime, and potentially the new Voyager Starscream. But the rest of the line consists of too many tweaks on what amounts to repaints of toys I didn't care for the first time. I really doubt I'll spend much on this line, and I hope they don't put Universe on the backburner again over it.
So far the majority of ROTF toys we've seen are all new toolings, with the rest being either retools and store-exclusive redecos. There's even an entire price point devoted to all-new designs and toolings.

Yeah, Universe is on hiatus since ROTF is providing the realistic vehicles product line again.

  4. All-new ROTF Bumblebee with a vehicle interior and articulated Sam Witwicky driver figure. Also pics of retooled Ironhide with new, more accurate big honking cannons.

    Pics

Box pics of an all-new ROTF Voyager Starscream with a much sleeker F-22 Raptor form and a robot mode that actually has hands. His knees were bent too deep for the photos, though, making him look short and squat. Also, a redeco of Voyager class Prime and blurry Leader class Prime.

    Pics

    Starscream's cybertronix hieroglyphics are movie-specific.

  5. Does anyone know if it's still possible to buy the box sets of the original Transformers show? I wasn't able to buy them when they originally came out since I was still in school (college) and didn't have the extra money. That's all changed now since I'm finally working and would love (need actually) to get my hands on these (loved watching this when I was little and the few times I could catch reruns or some episodes online. I was able to pick the animated movie up quite easily though but not sure if the series is still available.

Would love to get my hands on the Beast Wars and Beast Machines series as well.

Rhino's Region 1 DVDs have long since gone out-of-print. Currently, the only DVD sets around for G1 right now is Metrodome (who have since lost the rights to make Transformers DVDs) in the UK (Region 2) and Madman in Australia (Region 4).

I have Madman's. Has all of Rhino's extras plus a few of their own (a single commentary track and interview with voice director Wally Burr, PDFs of scripts ect). Comes with a nice little 8-page comic set in 2001 which is (so far) the only American cartoon-continuity story to bridge 1986 to The Year 2005, some nice Matrix Artwork that is placed on top of the DVDs in the nice embossed metal tin, packaged in a mini reproduction of a G1 toy box.

Madman are currently the only publishers of Beast Wars DVDs, and fortunately, their versions are by far the best in terms of extras and visual quality. All three seasons have some form of commentary with Ben Yee, Larry DiTillio and Bob Forward. Season 3 has some of the voice actors, Mainframe animators and Simon Furman joining in. Scott McNeill comes to his interview dressed as Beast Wars Megatron :D

  6. Just got back from Toys'r'us and bought an exclusive B-Wing. I have never had one of these before. Can someone give me the scoop on it before I open it?
Too bad nobody replied. I myself wasn't aware that this topic was still active :(

How do you like it? I bought the previous reissue of the B-Wing 8 or so years ago.

  7. Yeah I actually have that figure at home. The paint app. on this one though (as well as the addition of the Cybertron Defense Scattershot head?) just takes the cake.

I'm actually in the middle of replacing Blades' head with an extra Alternator Optimus head i had and I'm having trouble finding any easy way to 1) remove his original head and 2) attach Prime's head, so more credit to FrenzyRumble on his customs.

According to the deco artist, the reason why Universe Blades doesn't look too much like G1 Blades (specifically missing things like the white chest and blue face) is because he was actually developed for the Movie line, but its slot was taken by the Blackout retool, Evac.
  8. Man that Defensor is insane. I was wondering if FrenzyRumble would get around to making a custom of my favorite combiner and he hasn't disappointed. He used just about every transformer i figured he would in putting this guy together (Fire Convoy for Hot Spot, Liveconvoy (Evac) for Blades etc.).

If only i had $3,000 lying around .

Funny thing is that Blades is a repaint of Hasbro's own Universe Blades redeco of Evac.
  9. Hasbro's distribution is way inconsistent. I remember looking for Animated Swoop for months. I finally found one and bought it instantly. Now I can't go to a store without tripping over 5 Swoops.
Your retail chains are responsible for distribution of toys. Hasbro is only responsible for sending the goods the retailers order from China to the distribution centers, and from then on it's out of their hands.
  10. MP Thundercracker has awesome red chrome accents--on the BACKSIDE of his missile covers. I tried my darndest to remove them and flip them around, but it's impossible. They're super-super-glued in. The chest will snap in half before they let go. Darn. Plain black chest fans are boring, while chrome red is awesome and one of TC's accent colors.

Still experimenting with what can and can't be taken apart/masked for painting. Have already done the "clearance for the screw in the armpit" mod. Debating repainting his missile chest covers--I could probably mask off the blue striping already painted to preserve it. (one of the chest covers has pretty poor paint, the only real QC issue on mine---and I don't like the gunmetal anyways, I want SILVER paint on my TC)

(when I'm all done, my MP TC will be very G1, though not quite as much as the ones that are 100% custom repaints from a Starscream)

Careful. Remember when you ruined your Premium Prime?
  11. So, should BotCon always be in the middle of America so nobody is happy or angry? Seems to me that any location near the coasts will piss somebody off while making somebody else happy. Last few BotCons have been more to the east, so it's logically time for the west. Hell, with it being closer to production, maybe we'll get more Movie prop vehicles this year.

I CAN'T BELIEVE nobody asked Peter Cullen to go stand near the Optimus Prime truck for photos.

  12. It works for the story though (provided that you're playing as a good guy/gal),

you die a hero to save the wasteland, pretty much most of the main quests are about you bringing hope to the innocent survivors.

Anybody leave GNR in the background while playing? I find myself singing "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire".
