1. Having discovered Robotech in the Philippines as a kid, I was hooked. Then after moving to America in the mid 80s I discovered Macross and a lot about military jet fighters; I fell in loved with the F-14 ... to me, that plane was the VF valkyrie.

Then I was really excited after seeing Macross Zero, and that the mecha designer of the original valkyries looked at the F-14 as a model reference.

After reading this post, I like to share some stuff specifically on the JSF.

For you Macross Plus fans, check out the DVD or VHS (if it's available) of the JSF program, the Boeing's X-32 versus Lockheed Martin's X-35. The show is the real life Macross Plus without the battloid mode and love story. Two companies fighting for the military contract; each with their badass jet fighter that can hover like a harrier and still break Mach 2.

Of course you all know that the X-35, now F-35, won the bid...but I was really excited after seeing that program. The History Channel, PBS, or Amazon may have the video/dvd.

Sample clip of F-35 which some of you peeps have seen already:

I was like, "wow, all this awesome sci-fi sh*t is taking place now while I'm alive, during our time!"

2. The 1/60 VF-1 series had lots of problems, but most were ironed out by the time the 1Js were released. These were the only ones I bought because of my love for the 1J's head design. All have been modified to some extent, especially the shoulder polycaps and elbow clearance...

And when I shoot my toys, the POSE is probably the biggest part of the fun! Here are some Gerwalk poses that I feel can rival the 1/48s any day, even with their more limited joints:

02.jpg

And there are shots the 1/48s can never be a part of...

damn, that pod just got it's ass handed to it ... cool photo!

3. Its pretty big.....the box that is. Comes with some DVD probably with Prime and Melissa getting it on or something. Yum.

Hubba hubba.....now everyone say "MOE~" with me.

wait, so who or what is the target audience again for this series? damn, i don't think the packaging goes well with the truck...that's an american manly truck for goodness sakes!

so does this mean melissa is grabbing life by the horns?

4. yep, looking at mine now too on top of the shelf with the 1/48 vf-1s...it's starting to look like a chunky monkey next to the 1/60 vf-0s cuz of all those curves.

my only problem is the ball points on the forearms will not fix on the gunpod handle "hole."

i'm getting the vf-0a...and definitely the yf-19 etc.

now i'm thinking about getting 1/60 scales...

5. yep, these 1/100 scales are not worth $20 ... maybe $12, but they would have to minimize the quality of the box. $20 would be a good price with the FP included.

the two exclusives i got are 711 and 739 out of 1000...does that count as an exclusive status?

6. pfff! image anime ... i bought two binaltechs from them and the plastic part of the boxes were crunched ... they wouldn't cover my shipping ... i had to pay shipping three times to get undamaged boxes.

yep, those guys are lazy. i'm never buying from them again.

7. well, mostly YAMATO's...

You know how comics used to be 75 cents?  And candy bars were like 25 cents?  Well toys used to be 3-6 bucks, the ones we wanted anyhow.  Somehoe, someone figured out that those dudes who bought the 3-6 dollar toys in their youth would pay 100+ for toys in their adulthood and then laced it with heroin... now we're screwed and they pummel us to the point that we ruin ourselves with the anticipation and finances required to obtain the stuff.

As KingNor said to me, I think it's time for an overhaul.

I'm swearing off toys for good (I hope) and it all began with the VF-0S.  I wanted that thing, very badly, but it was the most expensive valk to date. And now, there's a parade of pricey valks.  All of which I would love to have, but would require a small bank loan to actually pull off.

Overkill, me thinks.

Farewell, forum peeps.  I'm sure most of you don't know me, but it's been swell.  Time for me to move on.  If I come into large sums of money, I'll be back!

DAMN YOU YAMATO!

DatterBoy, I've been thinking the same thing. So far I've skipped the Low Viz 2, the Stealth, and will probably skip two to three other version coming out this fall. The last valkyrie I purchased was the VF-0S. And after the Comic Con, I realized that there are plenty of ther cool stuff other than Macross 1/48 scales.

We're set to get married March 2007...and I've been lagging on the savings. My fiancée and I are actually focusing some of our income towards mountain biking and road biking. Gosh damn it feels great.

But hey, good luck! Keep on drawing mang! You do great work. Hopefully I'll be able to share some of my illustrations also with you all.

I think once I have a kid...all attention to him/her...life is good indeed. And if I'm to give them all up, I'd keep the VF-1J with the GBP-1 and the fast packs because that valkyrie sticks out the most on my mind...due to my childhood years with Robotech.

We all know that we're not forced to buy these toys, but you feel the tendency to do so because we love this stuff...the real issue here is the high price versus the lack of QC...especially marked up shipping/handling...and hoarding valkyries.

So until some of our fellow peeps pay-up $2400 per month on mortgage for a 1400 sq. ft. home, they'll never feel the pinch.

Go Blue!

8. Well...it's almost going to be a year now since I've posted this...and still no insurance. Since my fiancée and I are not married, we need to pay separate coverage.

I guess it's careless of me not to get insurance at all. I gotta definitely sign up ASAP.

I just finished checking out the Comic Con, and after seeing all the goodies...and the goodies coming out from Yamato, coverage is definately in need.

Roy Focker and RJ Junkie, who are you guys using for insurance coverage?

9. Hey Fit For Natalie,

Do you know if Takara has stopped all the toy BT series with BT-17 ... and now are only producting the BTA series?

And are the BTA action figures worth their price?

I have BT-01 to BT-10 ... and thinking about buying the remaining up to BT-17...or would it be better to stick with Alternators?

What do you guys think?

10. Hey guys, hopefully this will cheer yer spirits up! ... definitely not a shadow:

um....HELLO! Not official movie footage. ;)

412648

hmm...i didn't say this was part of the transformers movie...just a possibility based from the freelancer's site. if one person can do this, imagine a whole team of special fx crews.

but anyhow, you guys are a tough crowd. hopefully they'll have a complete trailer at the 2006 San Diego Comic Convention.

11. hmmm...i shook hands with seth green, a what's-up to cedric the entertainer during a lakers game, oscar de la joya, jim lee, john cho from american pie, lou ferigno, justine lin of 2 fast 2 furious 3, and hung out and chilled with Sadaharu Oh.

not too many hollywood peeps nor super models...but i probably wouldn't recognize them anyway even if they stepped on my toes.

12. what's up fellas,

not much on my workbench, or drawing desk ... i've been working on my PG RX-78-2 for a while ... i'm planning to beef it up with twin-canons in the back and in the front, a couple of bazookas.

i'm seeing great stuff on this topic, keep 'em coming. maybe i can get some tips on weathering and air brush application.

the parts i'm using are of course the PG kit, a 1993 1/60 HG kit and the 1999 B-club FA-78-1 armor conversion parts.

i'll probably skip the normal green color and stick with the white, blue, red and gray.

13. Three observations:

1. False packaging, the back of box shows what the camo should've looked like;

2. Yamato got its president's 2 yrs old son playing with Photoshop again; &

3. Idiotic English title because:

- it is grammatically incorrect to capitalise Wood Land but low cap "colour" when it is part of the title;

- Wood land should be one word when used in a title; &

- even my next door neighbour’s dog knows it is a camo scheme…so for Pete’s sake, why don’t they just call it CAMOUFLAGE!!!

403352

ditto ... but the funny thing is, we're still gonna buy this thing! why? i don't know ... cuz we want to complete our collection?

i think the GBP packaging is the best so far.

14. Back in 1983 or '84, my grandfather took me to Cavite City, Philippines to get me a toy and as I passed by a small vendor my eye caught sight of a kanzen henkei 1/55 vf-1j !!! ... heh heh ... but he said "nope" for 1,000 pesos...that was a lot of dough.

and almost 23 years later ... i got something better; 1/48 1J with GBP armor!

hee hee.

15. damn, i don't know if it's the photo or the off-white balance, but that's some nasty "guacamole" color on that box!

and what's with the soft vignette of the chest place for the box cover?

and those awful mixture of fonts with some weak-ass photoshop filters!

why can't yamato just use the paint scheme on the plane for the box?

sorry about the rant...but we're shelling out lots of money on these valkyries and all we get are mediocre styled, oversized boxes.

and yamato can't even tighten-up the ankles/feet. my fianée bumped the bookcase with the laundry basket...the GBP-VF1J wobbled and feel, she caught it luckily, but the valkyrie and it's armor fell apart everywhere...but the HG 1/60 Strike Gundam next to the valkyrie stood it's ground like a champ.

so anyhow, the funny thing is...we buy 'em, we buy a lot of them valkyries...and not enough of us are bringing up the "these" issues. $150+ ... that's 10 hours of work for some people. families in South America don't even make that much in a month.

grrrr!

16. Hi Kurisama, thank you. You have pretty wicked stuff yerself !

What 3D program did you use to create that armor system? I recently bought Hash's Animation Master to dabble with 3D, but my colleagues are all for Maya and Studio Max and all those other heavy hitters. I don't think I'll ever get my hands on them unless I go through a specialized school or work for a video game company.

All you guys have fricking great stuff !

I am surprised that we're not getting enough illustrations for the monthy contest:

http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=18278

Keep them coming guys!

17. Yeah, my L.V got real jealous of the Stealth’s fast pack and decided to take matter to its own hand  :D  .  I have more pics here.
Had to get one to help my LV v1 feel less lonely.

400334

Thanks for the pics. Plan to do the same when my stealth shows up. I am worried that the dark gray fast packs will look so good that I will want them on all my valks.

400363

i agree with the gray fast packs, or darker fast packs; they look good. i've always been intrigue with the bandai vf-1s strike valkyrie. here's a korean vf-1j i purchased from the Comic Convention in 1995...with some fast packs...and the vf-1s roy fokker reissue with black fast packs.
