  1. Berman or no Berman, there's a lot of expectations this new Trek flick is going to be measured up to.

This is another prequel. As evidenced from the Star Wars prequels and Enterprise, it was a challenge trying to please the fans of those respective franchises. As you know, "pleased" wasn't the word.

This [sTXI] will probably be a make or break for the faltered franchise.

  2. So is MZ PtIII worth buying?  I've heard mixed feelings about it and I'm hesitant to buy a copy.

    Skip it.

Gee, Jeleinen, thanks for that enlightening opinion. Do you think you could take two seconds out of your no doubt busy schedule to tell us -why- you think that? What's the point of a discussion if you just blurt out two word proclamations without any reasoning?

Actually, I didn't have time to make a longer post then. I will now though.

First off, it's a completely unnecessary sequal. The end of 2 pretty much wraps things up quite well. Secondly, and even more importantly, the big reveal at the end pretty much craps all over the conclusion of 2 (trying not to spoil here, so please forgive my vagueness).

If you can see it for free, it's not going to melt your brain or anything, but it's not worth going after and it's certainly not worth purchasing.

Thanks to all who took the time to respond. Like I said "mixed feelings" and (now) "it's okay" is all I've heard and those seem to be the majority. While I should form my own opinion on this MZ movie, all those opinions suggest is that it's not worth buying. Maybe a friend has a copy and I can borrow it.

  3. Bump!

Is this a Revell Germany release?

Yeah, the Revell Germany kits are the only ones available right now. From what I've heard, the AMT kits will hit north american shelves some time this fall. Why so late? I dunno, its just AMT's way of saying "We don't care."

Thanks! Some of the local models shops (here stateside) caryy Revell Germany kits. Maybe I'll be lucky!

  4. I'm sick of remakes, and you just can't continue a story where hell even the second part left a good conclusion, the third pretty much said "Hey we still got a city, just rebuild the damn thing."

Amen dude! There's way too many remakes in the world today, some good and many not.

The prequel idea is a good one, except they have a hard act to follow. The Star Wars prequels weren't too well received, (though I personally liked them) and Enterprise was so lame (this one I tried to follow, but couldn't get into each time).

I agree though, something like MZ23 shouldn't be remade, but either have a new sequel OR have a good prequel.

  5. And did Owen being Obi-wan's brother come from the original script for Revenge of the Jedi??? I found this on several websites

Luke looks into the distance, trying to comprehend all this.

    BEN (continuing his narrative)

When your father left, he didn't know your

mother was pregnant. Your mother and I knew

he would find out eventually, but we wanted

to keep you both as safe as possible, for as

long as possible. So I took you to live with

my brother Owen on Tatooine... and your mother

took Leia to live as the daughter of Senator

    Organa, on Alderaan.

    ???

according to the sites that was from the second draft of Revenge of the Jedi (what would become Return of the Jedi), of course the first part about Leia remembering her mother is actually in the movie.

Ahh, well, that part made it to the "Return of the Jedi" novelization by James Kahn. Also in the Kahn novelization was (a brief mention) of Anakin and Obi-wan's climactic battle over the lava. When I saw the ROTS trailers, I knew (sort of) what was to come. The ROTJ novel had Anakin actually falling into the molten pit and "clawing his way out of that fiery pool" and the change [to the dark side] being burned into him forever.

  6. I view cannon as "If it's not in the movie, then it doesn't apply.". Keeps things clear and clean. Besides the EU is alot of different writers playing in someone elses playground. So it's little more then fanfiction at it's most legal.

This is a good rule to live by...for the most part. George Lucas does say many a time that the films are the "true" Star Wars and only the films. However, when we start talking legally with respect to canon, it's a bit different. The scripts, radio dramas, and the novelisations of the six films are also legally considered canon as per the official policy of Lucasfilm Ltd. This makes perfect sense, since much of that material was written by Lucas himself.

Up until three years ago, I believed Owen Lars was related to Obi-wan. The EU novels I read in the Star Wars Insider are only interpretations not canon.

But I like the novels if there's something in the movies that need more explaining.

  7. I don't care. That's how he looked when he was last a whole man. Its not like Shaw added anything anyway all he did was sit there and smile.

Yeah, very true, that was James Earl Jones' voice after the mask was taken off, wasn't it? All grins from ol' Sebastian all right!

I still think they should've aged Hayden, "whole" man before or otherwise. Hell, better yet, they should've also took the late Alec Guiness off and put Ewan in his place! :p Young Jedis again now that Darth is gone!

    Another two woolongs!

  8. They should've aged Hayden Christensen for that shot (whether through CGI or makeup). I thought that was kind of goofy to add Hayden and I also thought it was sort of disrespectful to the late Sebastian Shaw who played the old Anakin. (BTW, the 100th B-Day of the late Sebastian Shaw is 10 days after the release of Episode III).

    Just my two woolongs!
